Dr. Leshem and his staff were absolutely amazing. Our new rescue Baxter fractured his Tibia. They got him right in today. Caring and compassionate for both my pup and myself.

They were fantastic and always are. This time I brought my foster mama Lucy to check bloodwork, lungs and a fecal. They detected a heart murmur and concern about not gaining weight with me. Thank you for helping my mamma Lou ❤

We had an emergency with our small dog having a stick stuck in the back of her mouth and having some difficulty breathing. The team responded quickly and resolved the issue efficiently.

I was very pleased with the care my dog got last night at the center. I have been up there with other dogs of mine over the years, and the care has always been outstanding.....Lynn Emery

Recently we brought our Bernese Mountain Dog in for a large eyelid tumor to be removed. From our beginning consultation, to the last post-surgery visit, the staff was incredibly attentive and professional. They made us feel comfortable through the entire process. Dr. Leshem was incredible. He was extremely attentive to our concerns and lovingly gentle with our dog. From going through the procedure of the surgery, to explaining the best and worst possible outcomes, he was a shining light of hope for our family through this emotional time for our beloved pet. He clearly cared for how we felt as well as our dogs well being. Our dog can be difficult at times, as he is so large and goofy, but that was never an issue with any of the staff. He took to Dr. Leshem like they were old friends. The procedure was a perfect success, with no obviously visible signs of scaring. The final cost was even under the all-ready affordable estimate. We couldn't be happier with the service, the cost and the final outcome. If your looking for a surgical specialist to treat your pet as one of their own, then look no further.

I can't say enough good things about the team at Dr. Leshem's surgical center. Our 11 year old golden mix recently had her knee repaired by Dr. Leshem. It was a tricky surgery given her age and the damage that presented itself when the knee …

Referred here by my vet to review an x-ray on my kittens leg. He explained what he saw in the x-ray and said if it was his cat he'd just give it another week of confinement to limit movement and nothing else. You know they're trustworthy …

We brought our dog here for the "ACL" surgery. The thought of leaving one of our dogs overnight somewhere new was pretty nerve-racking. We checked out a couple places and got quotes but mainly to see who we felt the most comfortable with. …

We had an amazing experience with Dr. Leshem and his team for my lab/pit mix's ACL repair. Her left knee had been repaired by a veterinary surgeon in 2017 with a very successful outcome. But when she tore her right knee at the end of 2019, we found out the surgeon had retired and we needed someone new. We scoured the state trying to find a replacement, quickly learning that not many vets can do a TTA and even fewer are board certified. Our networking with other dog owners and online research led us to Dr. Leshem, and boy are we so happy! He is tremendously experienced with this procedure, board certified and was incredible with our girl who tends to be very fearful of men. She was instantly at ease during the exam and happy as a clam when we picked her up the day after surgery. His practice is an hour away from our home, but I'd gladly drive 10 hours to have him care for her again. If you're looking for the BEST ACL repair surgeon in the state, look no further. Thank you on behalf of our family to the entire staff at Leshem Veterinary Surgery.

This is an update to my review below: Nine months have gone by since Dr. Leshem operated on Yulee. I'm thrilled to report that Yulee is doing great and so thankful that we decided to have the procedure, but more importantly have Dr. Leshem do it. I attached the photo of Yulee and his little brother Buddy to demonstrate that Yulee's life has resumed to normalcy and even though we have to remain cautiously optimistic, I'm confident that if we don't take unnecessary risks his life will continue to be better than if we opted not to choose to have the surgery. Every time we leave the river and drive by Dowd Avenue, we yell out the window, "Thank you Doc Leshem!" PS - Yulee is a certified therapy dog at CCMC, has resumed his regular visits and his story resonates with many of the little friends he visits with. ================================================= My five year old Leonberger (a big guy) recently experienced aspiration pneumonia. This was a direct result of a genetic disorder in Leos and other breeds that is called laryngeal paralysis. Because I had another dog that required surgery to remedy this problem I knew what I had to have done for him. I had heard from good friends that they had the utmost respect for Dr. Steve Leshem and his surgical abilities so when my regular vet highly recommended I bring my dog to Steve I never hesitated. Steve diagnosed my Leo's condition, confirmed his LP and rather than say, "Let's operate!" he felt the prudent thing to do was to wait for cooler weather to see how he would respond. That in itself impressed me because I always ask my vets, "What would you do if this were your dog?" I didn't have to ask him that because my intuition was that Steve already considered Yulee "our dog". We were a team. That last sentence illustrates one of Dr. Steve's many strengths...he is a great listener and values the clients feelings and fears. However as time progressed my wife and I decided we didn't want to postpone the inevitable surgical intervention primarily because we were having such a tropical autumn in Connecticut which was not ideal for Yulee's condition. Yulee was operated on a month ago and today was running and playing with his friends. We can't thank Dr. Steve enough and would never hesitate in recommending him when surgery might be a viable consideration.

My name is Gannon and I'm a sophomore in college and I am blind. Three weekends ago, I noticed my seeing eye dog wasn't acting like herself. She's wouldn't lay down and wasn't her normal, energetic self. We brought her to Canton Veterinary Emergency Center and were extremely fortunate that Dr. Leshem was on call. I didn't know it at the time but him being there saved my guide dog's life. Tully was so sick when we arrived. She wouldn't lay down and was vomiting. She went in for an x-ray. It was apparently obvious from the x-ray that she had an obstruction in her small intestines. At that point we thought she had done the typical lab thing and ate something she shouldn't have eaten. Dr. Leshem recommended exploratory surgery and thought he would find the obstruction and resolve the problem fairly quickly. He was supposed to be ending his day at 6 pm but stayed to make sure he saw Tully through her procedure. I found out several hours later (I think we received his call around 10 pm) that she did have an obstruction, but it wasn't caused by something she had eaten. She had an adhesion (scare tissue from a prior procedure) that had developed around her small intestine. As it "healed", it began constricting her small intestine. Apparently it was bad enough that if I had waited any longer, her small intestine likely would have perforated and she would have died. I would have written this post earlier, but its probably fairly obvious we have had a traumatic couple of weeks. The surgery was successful, but the recovery period was also fairly risky given that the small intestine had to be reattached and heal properly. I understand the risk of complications was fairly high with this type of procedure. In addition to the above, Dr. Leshem and Danielle kept me informed while she was in the hospital for the 4 days. He told me I could call his cell phone day or night with any questions or concerns. Danielle was amazing too. She was always there for me when I visited Tully. I am extremely happy to report that Tully is doing great and is past the most dangerous part of her recovery. She is very excited again to be back to work (she gets so excited and focused when I put her harness on and she hated not being there to help me get around campus during finals week). Dr. Leshem is not only a great surgeon, but he obviously understands and cares about what his patients' owners are going through during these traumatic procedures. Thank you to Dr. Leshem for giving me my "eyes" back. I am forever grateful that we met three weeks ago. Gannon Avon, CT
