Dr. Casper almost euthanized my cat. July 24, 2021 he walked in while I was visiting my cat, who was on day 2 of a 3-day medical treatment stay. He didn't look at me, didn't say a word of introduction nor explanation before physically flicking my fingers away from my cat's IV line and actually touched one of two syringes to his line before I said, "Hi, what is this?" His first words, without looking at me, were, "this is euthanasia fluids." After officially reporting him, I received an email with non-working contact information. The California veterinary board and East Lake Animal Clinic in Watsonville let us all down. If you want your pets to nearly be killed in front of you without a word of warning on a regular visit, this is the place for you. I withdrew all of my pets' records of immediately. I hope they're all proud to work at place that would let this happen to a faithful client of nearly a decade. Dr. Casper still works there today.

I have been a client to this office for 15 years . 5 years ago went to Mayers office , had X-rays done on my dog for his back because he was suffering . $500 later was told everything was fine . I looked at it myself few days after and saw 3 vertebrate totally messed up and went to specialized vet in town. We had to help my dog and I lost him . ( Had Mayer ear looked at the Xrays ? I could see the damage myself on the Xrays ) 5 years later, I gave him another chance , and I decided to have an imported 2.5 month doberman cropped and docked there . I had clearly talk before surgery about what I wanted . Medium long straight crop , had showed examples and Mayer had drew a model ... tail docked short . While everything was rapped for 2 weeks after surgery I did not see what had really happened . Ears had been repaired during surgery and bottom of the ear had been sawed together obstructing the ears canal . Ears were facing forward with very wide base and at an angle .Cut of the ears are not even straight as shown on the picture , it is uneven with some sharp angles . I went to see Mayer and asked him to fix his job .Clear refusal , he told me it is a perfect job !!! REALLY ??? So I end up going to vet in Milpitas and so far I am out $2500 for repair of Mayer's work . I have showed dogs in Europe ,and my in European breeder who is a very well known judge is also appalled by Mayers work ) Additionally , Mayer does not wear a mask , talks politics . Thank you for respecting your clients lives and opening our minds . His wife is running the show since few years , selling whatever she can and the feeling is they are in for the money . I think things were different before. With years your judgement has gone done . SAD. I USED TO THINK OF YOU AS A GOOD VET ... BUMMER ..

I took my puppy to see the vet and I told the vet some questions he did not want to answer a question. The question that I said was can dog eat apple and he said that have to find it in google and he said to Search put spca toxic and I ask him if dogs can eat meat like raw and he answer go on google and put spca toxic. And he did not let me speak. But the nurse was really nice.

My sweet girl is extremely reactive and needed care. This office and staff did a superb job making sure we did not encounter other dogs. They found and removed a fox tail in ear same day. Vet assistant was very patient with me as I was super stressed. Highly recommend this office!

I took my13 year old cat Dopey to East Lake Animal Clinic in Watsonville to get her yearly exam (free when you have two $35 items done) and her FVRCP shot. The employees are super efficient and very nice. When I arrived, I read the big sign outside the clinic instructing me to call them. They were quite busy that day but within 10 minutes they came and got my cat who was in a carrier. I stayed in my car in the air conditioning to wait. Within another 10 minutes, an employee came out to get my credit card and explained the doctor would call me. I waited a few more minutes and he did. He explained quickly and clearly what he had done and suggested a leukemia shot (since she is an outdoor-indoor cat) and an adult cat chemical procedure. I agreed. Before I knew it, my cat was back in my car. I was impressed by the professionalism of the doctor and staff.

I found it more than challenging to be heard at this clinic. I shared with three people I did not want a procedure to be done that would result in my cat wearing an elizabethan collar. When explaining this to the vet and staff I used an example of not putting a drain in her. I requested her abscess be shaved and cleaned. I received an estimate of somewhere around $800. I did not read the actual written estimate details thinking it would represent our conversation - my mistake. I explained it would be a large problem to have this particular cat wear a protective collar (and it was a very large problem in reality!!!). During the procedure, after the vet shaved her hair, it was apparent that she had three puncture wounds. Rather than to call and check in with me about my preferred course of treatment, she chose to go ahead and surgically remove part of the area, put sutures in, thus requiring a protective collar to be warn by the cat so she would not rip out her stitches. The vet chose not to put a drain in the suture area, apparently basing this choice on my example of not putting in the drain - not understanding my intentions of the cat not being required to wear a collar. My understanding is that if you are going to do a removal and suturing for an abscess it is often desirable to install a drain to lessen the possibility of a reoccurring abscess. Had the vet consulted me about this by a simple phone call we could have had that conversation to make the best choice possible. My request for not putting in the drain had nothing to do with the drain itself, only so the cat would not be required to wear a collar. The cat now has an abscess that has reoccurred. I phoned them to get additional antibiotics and they suggested doing a culture. I was then told that because I was upset they went ahead and did not put in the drain, when in actuality I was upset they did anything without communicating with me - again, particularly something that would require her to wear a collar, I was told they wanted to see the cat and culture the cat themselves. Via their communication, It seemed as though they were using the lack of communication as the reason they would not allow me to do the culture. They Further expressed they would not be willing to do another course of antibiotics without the culture, nor would they allow me to simply pick up a culture kit and do a swap. I was further informed that It was I who was contradicting myself by expressing that I was frustrated about the lack of communication and that the concern of a cat wearing a protective color should not be a reason to consider when making a choice about a course of treatment. While the staff and vet are certainly entitled to their opinion, again the conflict goes back to being unwilling to hear the client, and allowing them to participate in the course of treatment for their own animal. The clinic has made no attempt to take any responsibility for the lack of communication or the consequences to both the client and the animal. Note to the clinic: Talk to your clients before doing a procedure, listen to why they are making a request so as to alleviateIn the impression you do not care about their thoughts or feelings. In my experience with you it is not what choice was made; It's that the choice was made without listening to my personal request, Intentions, needs, or personal experience with my own animal. To state the obvious; this is a care profession - even when dealing with perceived challenging clients. It would seem the reviews bellow by others may be pointing you to steps that might help your business.

Worst service I have had at a vet of any kind. My cat was brought in for a serious issue (lillies) in the morning. First call was a little over 300 gave the ok, next it was over 700, paid that. "There was 2 separate quotes" ???? (why didn't I get a phone call?) I asked to have them leave the iv in so I could administer fluids at home, they said ok. I get there after work and have to walk into the back before I can get someones attention, then.......all of a sudden they magically want to add an additional 400+ (I refused to pay that because I never got a phone call) Told me that they couldn't leave the iv in, so they sold me 2 bags for 20 and no iv needle. And the recheck of the blood work in the morning was supposedly going to go up another significant amount as well. Terrible communication on their end and changing prices without communicating with patient owners.

They have been my vet since 1992! I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They are compassionate, caring and are wonderful to deal with from the first contact to the vet to the last contact. They understand financial situations. I have also taken over twelve feral cats for the Project Purr and am grateful that they are helping reduce feral cat colony!

This clinic put my puppy at risk by giving him shots without checking with me first. My appointment was for grooming and a flea bath. He came home with fleas and his nails/hair untouched. All they did was administer shots he didn't need and charged $90 for it. I hoped this clinic would get better with age, but for the 5+ years I have come, they just haven't changed. They care nothing for the animals they are taking care of. Update: Worst hospital ever. Only because this was an emergency and I didn't know what other options I had, I took my puppy, who was just in a terrible accident, to ELH. They marked my account as do not service even though THEY were the ones who made the mistake and didn't communicate as to the vaccines my dog needed or not!!! Horrible company!!!!!

Took my cat in, she was terminaly sick. They offered 1000 dollar hospitalization, 360 to put her down. I declined and they charged me 125 for absolutely nothing. I had to put her down myself, the fact that they would charge me, didn't want to give my cat back, they tried to haggle down to 250. I lost all respect for vets as a result.

The Staff at East Lake Animal Clinic is attentive to your needs and care very much about your Pet. I’ve been a returning Customer to East Lake Animal Clinic since the mid 80’s and have always had great experiences there. Recently got a new family dog and you can bet he’ll be going to East Lake for he’s check up’s.

(Updated Jan 02 2019.) My 13 yr old long haired was hit by a car over last Xmas. This year my pit bull mix had very large tumor removed, again over Xmas. The care was impeccable, sincere, and pricing affordable. Dr Daniels and Dr Padilla are simply the best. I am so grateful for East Lake Animal Clinic staff and management.

Our jerk cat got in a fight with some other critter on a Saturday night and by Sunday morning it was clear Big White needed veterinary attention. We brought him in for emergency wound and infection care as new patients to the clinic, and he was treated extremely well. Not only did they fix up his battle scars, our vet also took extra time to explain why he and other albino cats are deaf, which we geeked out over. They were very good to him and we would definitely recommend this clinic for emergency vet care.

I have been taking my dogs and cats to East Lake Animal Clinic since Dr Carrol opened years ago. I have always had good experiences with all the staff throughout my time with this clinic. Dr Carrol has always worked with me in the care of my animals and tried to keep his charges as reasonable as possible. The office manager, the medical technician, and all of the front and back staff are terrific. I am currently taking my Labradoodle to see Dr Casper who I highly respect for his professionalism and obvious love for dogs. I highly recommend this clinic.
