Nice . I'm still waiting for the application to be processed. The facility will pick who gets the pet no matter when the application is placed. Disappointing

Honestly surprised to see some horrible reviews for this shelter, since we had such an incredible experience! My husband and I were looking to adopt a dog and had several bad experiences when reaching out to other shelters both nearby and far. We stumbled across Upland Animal shelter and took a risk - jumped in the car to make the drive from Santa Barbara with no appointment, and no high hopes. We were pleasantly surprised as the adoption team was SO kind and immediately let us walk-in to view the pup we had our eyes on. The facility was clean, large, and a lot different from the other shelters we had visited. The volunteers were super helpful and even let us browse the other pups, just to see if we were interested in any other dogs. We were also able to do a meet and greet on the spot, and right away, we knew our pup was the one! After talking to the volunteers (we later learned was the interview process), filling out some paperwork, we were able to take our pup home the same day. Even after coming home, Upland Animal Shelter was incredibly helpful with our additional questions, and they even gave us a ton of coupons and guides on how to navigate a new puppy. Thank you Upland Animal Shelter, we are so happy to have little Kona in our lives!

Since day one, the staff has been great. They truly care about every pet, & owner. Ive taken my Sally for shots, to get fixed, & recently for a surgery on her paw. Every time, the staff took great care of Sally. They remember Sally by name, and how she acts with the staff, and reacts with any meds that Sally has had. The prices are very reasonable. I understand they may be offering more services in the near future. Give them a call, before you go somewhere else.

I returned a cat because she was in poor health condition and seem to have caught an infection from the shelter. I didn’t want her to get my other cat sick. I was surprised to see her being posted the same day for adoption? I would of taught they would wait till she was healthy. I was told that there was no way for them to know she was sick when I adopted her but now they knew!

I had a great experience adopting from here. It’s been over 2 months now since we adopted our puppy. Brenda did the interview process for me and she was very kind. I appreciate that the adoption fee includes toys, treats, and a pet insurance trial. Although I don’t recommend the insurance brand they use (that’s not the shelters fault!), you should still activate it so you can be partially reimbursed for vet fees. It was worth the 1+ hour drive. The whole family is in love with the pup. :)

This shelter is by far the best in the area, but I write this review with the hopes of the process for returning and surrendering animals becomes more transparent. We adopted a sweet dog who ended up not being a great match for our home situation (on us), so we sought to bring her back to the shelter. Celeste (who helped us during our adoption process) was kind during our surrender appointment, but they unfortunately couldn't take her because of a kennel cough outbreak in the shelter. My husband and I called the shelter multiple times to see when we could expect to be able to surrender our dog, and we received a different answer every time. The worst call was with someone who spoke very rudely and essentially told us to stop trying to surrender her to the shelter. We called again, got someone different, and they said that she had to go through a behavioral test before admittance back into the shelter. I understand that COVID protocols and animal medical cautions can change a shelter's policies, but it would be great to have resources for volunteers who answer the phone or Upland residents to know exactly what's expected during these situations. Again, this is a wonderful shelter to adopt from, so please continue to visit!

This shelter STERILIZES FERAL and STRAY cats. Requirement...? is to take these cats in traps, is recommended to cover the trap with a towel to relax the cat. No APPOINTMENT is needed, but CALL this shelter to find out what time they sterilize these cats.

Was refused adoption because I didn't want to adopt a small dog. Apparently you can only adopt medium/large dogs if you live in a house with a giant yard.

I haven't had the best experience here. Trying to adopt has been too changeling. I had a dog for 11 years and he passed away from an illness last year. And am now ready to adopt a dog. I been there on a Weekday to schedule and appointment on a Saturday and they have all been booked up. Tried a few times.

I went there yesterday thinking I could surrender my dog, they wanted to see vaccine record and health history's, but one of them came out and said we're not going to take your dog because of the head shape .Do you judge people or animals because of their shape. What about those dogs they're picking up on the streets all day alone do they care about if those dogs are healthy enough I guess not.

There’s nothing “Humane” about this place. My wife and I were trying to do the right thing and find something that was open. I found a stray near the area that had a broken arm and fractured ribs and just because I was a few streets into another city they said there “is nothing we can do. Not our jurisdiction.” Employees refused to let me get a word in. Update 5/17/21: Well actually your staff would not allow me to speak in regarding the severity of these injuries. And gave no information, other than I need to call elsewhere. I was informed by an actual “humane” veterinarian that allowed me to communicate of this urgent matter. I was able to find the proper care for newly adopted chihuahua.
