Dr. Monroe and Dr. Lam, are top notch. They have been taking care of my boxer for about 11 years. They genuinely care and go over and above to make sure my dog is always taken care of. We have had many surgeries at Sierra Vet and every time they make me feel like we are there only patient the professionalism and care is one of a kind and I recommend them to all my friends and family.

We have been taking our 14 year old lab to Dr. Monroe for years. He has great bedside manner with our dog and with us. Never recommends services/products we don't need. Is always honest, professional, and most importantly provides excellent care!

(Re-posting this review from 2015 on Google (from Yelp) as Google has more power.) Very Difficult Last Day with my Dog, Yogi, only made more difficult due to a lack of professionalism and compassion.. Sierra Vet was recommended to me and I was instantly turned on by the reviews. My dog was lucky enough to not need to visit a vet for the most of his life. However, at around 11 years 6 months I took him in as he was slowing down considerably. The vet, Dr. Turner was awesome and caring as she explained he has lymphoma and maybe 14-days to live. She explained that the medicine (Prednisone) would perk him up then he would crash and crash hard. She told me I would then know when it was right to bring him in to put him down. Once Yogi began to crash I was unsure of the symptoms and what to do, so I called Sierra Vet. I did not get a call back so by the end of the day I decided maybe it is time and I called to schedule the euthanasia for the following day (still a bit unsure tho if it was time but figured I would get a final consult before putting him down.) Dr. Monroe spoke to me on the phone very briefly that afternoon and was rude, unprofessional, and quick as he scheduled me for the euthanasia for the following day. He didn't ask what was going on nor did he provide any compassion, understanding, or even respect. I was left confused and unsure if I was doing the right thing. I did let Sierra vet know that I would pull up to the back as I wanted to be with Yogi in the back of my truck during the procedure. It was a light- snow cold day but I opted for my truck and my dog being on his own bed for the "familiarity" factor that actually an assistant at Sierra vet recommended. After pulling up, I was told that I was not on the schedule and they would "try to squeeze me in" but I would have to wait and they were unsure. The vet who did come out, Dr. Monroe, then started to vent with me about how long he was up the previous night, about all of his cases and their symptoms and why they might only be able to "squeeze me in". Now, I had already been crying for the past two days, dealing with my own dogs nightly symptoms and ailments, etc. I looked at Dr. Monroe and told him this is F-d up and not to F-k with my emotions like this. He then began to argue with me almost forcefully as I tried to close up my truck to leave but he stood in the way and pushed my truck door back open. In my opinion this doctor lacked empathy, professionalism, compassion, and basic human respect. This was my final day with my dog, I was already a mess, and here I was being told about Dr. Monroe's other patients and ailments and why they might be only able to "squeeze me in." Also, throughout this discussion that did get a bit heated as I called Dr. Monroe on his lack of empathy, he never once asked me about what was currently going on with my dog. (to this day I am still unsure if I did the right thing or at the right time.) Dr. Monroe then later came out and apologized and said they did find me on the schedule and this was their mistake. Although once again he made excuses pertaining to other animals, their ailments, and how busy he was. Again, totally unprofessional considering why I was there. One would think that maybe these doctors have compassion based on their professions, having to do this often, and heck I think it even says the word "Compassion" in big letters on their website. Unfortunately my experience for the first hour as I waited in the back of my truck with Yogi was far from any sort of Compassion, Empathy, or Respect. Once they decided to move forward with the euthanasia it was an extremely peaceful event performed by Dr. Sjolin, taking no more then 15-minutes if that. Albeit this entire event with waiting outside in the cold, dealing with Dr. Monroe, etc. took almost 1 hour 30 minutes. Sadly, Dr. Monroe and Sierra Vet effectively made my last moments with my dog a more difficult one then it needed to be.

As visitors to Lake Tahoe, we called Sierra Veterinary Hospital late one afternoon as our dog was showing signs of an acute and serious ear condition. Alicia said to come right over and she, Dr. Dave, and the entire staff greeted us warmly. They immediately cared for our German Shepherd, correctly diagnosed her condition, and clearly explained her treatment. All of this when we were not even Tahoe residents or established patients! We are grateful to the entire staff and give Sierra Veterinary Hospital highest marks!

I can't begin to say how wonderful Sierra Vet is!!!!! My little dog almost died on Monday! The staff immediately jumped into action to save her life! Dr. Sievers even had her own dog, Sunny, donate blood to save my Lucy's life! Terry is an invaluable part of this vet's team! She has been there since I started bringing my dogs in 1996! She has been there for me during regular check ups and the tough times of letting a loved one go. I can easily see why Sierra Vet has won the Best Vet so many years in a row! Dr. Monroe and his staff are caring and loving, not only to my pets but to me as well! Thanks for all the wonderful years of service and especially this week! Lucy is doing great!

Dr. Monroe has taken care of all my animals. When I had a sick rat named Love Handles he was so dedicated he even took her home for overnight care and monitoring. Recently I got a new puppy that was sick and Dr. Monroe and his staff were very good at educating me on the problem and including me in the plan to bring her back to good health. I trust them and can tell that they sincerely care about their clients and patients. Highly recommend this hospital!

My husband and I moved to Tahoe in the Fall of 1997, we had two dogs at that time and needed to find a veterinary as soon as we could. A friend recommended the Sierra Veterinary Hospital, and I thank her all the time for the wonderful advise. The staff is amazing, they are all so compassionate and caring. I feel like my dogs become their dogs when they we are their. It is such a wonderful feeling to have a place that you feel so comfortable taking your pets.

These guys are the best. I took my dogs here for years, and the intelligent, compassionate, and thoughtful care they received were unlike any other we've found. My shepard lived to almost 18 years, and I attribute that -in part- to having a great vet.

Sierra Vet is a wonderful place with a staff that clearly cares about animals. Whenever I bring my golden retriever or cats in, Dr. Monroe is gentle yet thorough when treating them. The office staff is kind and professional and always willing to do whatever they can to fit me in when I need a last minute appointment. In addition to the routine care of my dog and cats, a few years we had the unfortunate experience of having to put down a fairly young cat. Dr. Monroe and his staff were incredibly kind and empathetic. As sad as we were, it was so comforting to have the procedure handled with such grace and care. We are very lucky to have such a great vet in Tahoe!
