Lack of consideration for the animals. From one moment to the other, my dog got sick shaking and not able to walk. This was the closest place I had so I went there. They didn’t even care. They practically kick us out…

We came here multiple times but my dog never get better. Still going worst. Hate that i do have insurance for a year then you cant even use it because they are always "full" you can only use it every 2 months or 3months while paying monthy for $60. Its to late to cancel it because of the contract. At first they are all nice and very assisting but for long time eh. Cant recommend. Worst vet hospital ever. Wasting time and money.

My dog Darby had a wonderful experience at VCA when I took him for his heart worm test. The staff was very courteous and professional. I would not hesitate to refer my friends to the VCA for the veterinary care of their pets.

Took out cat here today. Before he went in for a check up - had no fleas. Vet combed him to make sure. When he came home, he had two fleas. THIS PLACE IS INFESTED. Edit: reached out to them, they hit back with an "I'm sorry you feel that way".

Received EXCELLENT customer service and dedicated care for my cat. The front desk administrator was very nice, professional and efficient even though it was very busy! Dr. Tiffany Stillian was excellent! She was very thorough, and took the time to explain everything. I felt like she had my cats best interest at heart. This is my new Vet for sure! Thanks guys for all you do! - Sam

The staff member I spoke with was rude and dismissed my question. Not to mention she hung up on me just as I was asking a follow up.

You can never undo the untimely death of my best friend. I'm surprised this place is still operating.

My experience was nothing short of amazing. I cannot thank you all enough for welcoming my great dane and I to your office. You staff is amazing and doggie left feeling energized and well-cared for. This was a great experience and we will be back soon once we get settled for further treatment and wellness. Thank you for also helping me with questions and treatment options and alternatives. I'm new to the area and am grateful I stumbled onto this place. I'm very glad I chose this office to help establish a history here in California. Again, I am very appreciative of your efforts in making my recent visit less worrisome and I look forward to working with your office to help keep my senior doggie in optimal shape as he moves into his sunset years. He has literally been my best friend fort he past 4 & 1/2 years and I love him with all of my heart. I know now he is in good hands. Thank you again.

I don't like writing negative comments, but admit I now echo the last two reviews posted here. My family had been taking their pets to San Mateo Animal Hospital since the early '90's because of the vibe and the quality of doctors. Through the years, we've referred friends there as well. I recently returned there when I moved back to the peninsula having gone three times now, where last two visits the reception staff had given poor customer service particularly with discrepancies between services rendered vs. info given on phone. Although I'm able to accept miscommunication can lead to unfavorable outcomes at times, it was the receptionist's approach to the issues that now deems it unacceptable to warrant me another visit, (and further referrals). Both times, same person, same treatment: before finishing my question she continued to nod "No's", walked away, and didn't offer any sensitivity for the misunderstanding. What I thought would be a little < $150 turned into $230! The previous visit also had a similar variance. Not to disturb the other clients waiting or make a fuss I succumbed to the charges and quietly picked up my cats. It's too bad because I really and truly like Dr. Wolfe and the techs there, but going to the vet is like going to a pediatrician. You'd want the feeling you're in good hands and looked after, not like going to an auto repair shop where you're hit with unforeseen charges coming from an argumentative agent. With today's service industries scrutinized by customer ratings, a solid establishment would put their staff to professional Customer First training. Unfortunately, I will not continue the family tradition of taking my pets here until their reception services improve.

I had a friend warn me in advance the owner will nickel and dime the hell out of you when you go there. I had only had one experience with them and that's when I went to this hospital to put my kitty to sleep who had cancer. Obviously they can't mess anything up there since it's the end for my kitty. However, I did bring my new rescue in last week who has asthma. I knew he had asthma and they wanted to do 700 dollars worth of x-rays to substantiate my claim, which is fair. I have no problem with that. They wanted to keep my Ralphie for an hour to run the tests. I said I live a few blocks away and I'll come back in an hour. I was informed they would charge me 12.00 if I left my cat there for an hour. Really? You're charging me 700 to do x-rays on an issue I know my cat has and I can't go home for an hour. Now I know my friend was right. I sat there for the hour out of principle, not the money. I was fuming..... Just pay attention to the bills

I've taken my dog here several times and this was the place I called if I had a health issue with my dog. They've always been okay with regard to care, and prices. That said, I have not been to them for three years, and have heard their prices are higher now. Anyway, I was satisfied with them until I realized that they were sharing my personal info about my dog with outside agencies. I do not appreciate that and have changed my review from 4 stars to 1. The people there never told me my info was going to be shared with anyone. Trust is everything in establishing a relationship with a Vet. They lost mine. EDIT 4-24-16 I've just responded by email to the SM Animal Hospital's response (below). I am happy to give them a chance to explain how my dog's (and my) personal information came into the hands of an outside party right after coming there. It happened twice.

This place is always busy. I always have to wait longer than 30min even after setting up an appointment. Only one person works at the front. She is not nice either. The only reason I go over there is because it's the closest animal hospital

San Mateo Animal Hospital is Great!!! I like this hospital because they are professional, curious, and have a genuine love for your pets. The veterinary takes the time with you to discuss any concerns your have and the staff is informative. You have a calm feeling when you enter and your experience is always a good one. I would never think of going to any other Animal Hospital.

Very caring and excellent doctors and staff. We have brought all our dogs here throughout their lives. We won't trust our treasured "furkids" anywhere else.

I love San Mateo Animal Hospital. Dr. Wolfe is great with my dog, treats her like her own. She has recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and they have been knowledgeable and helpful. The entire staff is warm and friendly.

My two cats have both been here for Vet visits and boarding, and I'm very happy with both. The doctors here are professional and warm, and obviously love animals. Likewise, the technicians and receptionists are knowledgeable and helpful. When I had to leave my kitties here for a week during vacation, the workers would come and hang out with my cats far in excess of what was required. As a result, my cats were considerably more sane and less needy when I came to pick them up. :) Also, there's an adorable vet cat that roams the grounds. She's awesome and friendly as well - give Miss Kitty a pet while you're there.
