Limited hours open, but if you get there early enough, you can get in to see the vet. Very kind and helpful. Thank you!

To start off, they helped us when they didn’t have to, and we slept in our car outside the place over night to make sure we didn’t miss our next day appointment. We were from out of state and had no money. Zoey had 3 teeth fall out of her mouth, she was a 12 year old Maltese. She just passed a few months ago, but these people helped us have the next 3 years with her before she did pass. We thank you guys so much for giving her little mouth surgery. And god bless you Zoey????????

This place only cares about money! AVOID GOING HERE! My dog passed a few months ago and they still have the audacity to call me to say I have a balance on my account for a no show appointment that I wasn’t even aware of. My dog is literally dead and they still continue to call for a $200 no show appointment from months ago. This is ridiculous!! Let my dog Rest In Peace. Never bringing any other of my pets here again!!! If I could give zero stars I would give them 0

I highly recommend the SPCA for your pets! This is for the spay/neuter clinic, I walked in for my appointment nervous not knowing that it was first come first serve for appointments. I arrived a little late for the 8am check in. After arriving at 8:15am I waited around an hour, when I finally got my number called I was thoroughly explained everything and was asked if bubbles vet history/ vaccinations up to date. The nurses answered every question I had and gave me peace of mind and after that I was told to come back at 5pm for pickup. I picked up bubbles 30 mins late and there was no issues at all everything went smoothly! She was very well cared for and I was thoroughly explained her medication requirements following the surgery!! I’d like to thank Dr. Darien Rodriguez for taking care of bubbles today and all the vet techs at this location for their outstanding work!!

My review is specifically for SF SPCA's veterinary behaviorist services. We took our dog to see Dr. Sophie Liu for his behavioral issues. Dr. Liu and the SF SPCA team were comprehensive and professional in their interactions with us and our dog: Dr. Liu took the time to ask detailed questions about our dog's behavior and understand the context behind his behaviors, before subsequently prescribing a treatment plan for him. We never felt rushed during our appointment, and even had the opportunity to work with two trainers during our appointment to practice the management techniques that Dr. Liu had shared with us during the appointment. Dr. Liu has also been very responsive over email for subsequent follow-ups (we have 3 months of email support following our in-person appointment), which has been really helpful as we continue working with our dog. Overall, it's been really helpful to have the support from the team at SF SPCA, and we feel more confident that we can manage our dog's behavioral challenges. I'd say the only cons overall are the wait time (there was an 8 week wait for an appointment) and price ($475 - although it was worth it), but we had a fantastic experience overall!

Dismissive, unprofessional, and sadly, incompetent. We expressed concern about our dog’s stools being abnormal and loose. She told us she’s “just a puppy” and that it was normal, and to stop feeding her different things. We were told not to worry. Days later our pup is more lethargic, not drinking, vomiting, and continues to have loose stools to diarrhea. We had enough and brought a stool sample to the vet. I was told it would take 24-48 hours to get results. four days pass and nothing. We call the office and they tell us that our dog has a medication that needs to be picked up. We’re confused and ask why. They tell us she has a parasite (mind you, this isn’t even the vet or vet tech telling us this). They leave you to follow up yourself on the proper treatment. It was just so frustrating to have our concerns completely dismissed. Weeks later, our dog’s stools haven’t improved much, so we take her back. Another vet tells us to get a specific bland dog food, and we ask if a prescription was required, they said no, you can buy it anywhere. We go to Daly City’s Petsmart because they were the only ones that have it in stock, and they tell us we need a prescription. All SF SPCA does is send us bills and provide zero direction. It’s the lack of communication and professionalism for me. I can understand they have to cater to many city clients that it can be overwhelming, but as a healthcare worker myself, transparency, communication and empathy are so important. Nothing wrong with reception, they’re great.

Called Yesterday they told me stop by in the morning, my dog needs an allergy shot usually done by a tech, show up this morning just to get shamed real loudly as to how this is not an emergency, take a look at how much my dog is in pain and practically biting his tail/skin off but it’s not an emergency to them!

brought my kitten here for Initial wellness and vaccines after my neighborhood clinic said i’d have to leave my baby kitten for the entire day with them... SPCA didn’t allow me back with her but they were fast (under 30 mins w her), efficient and the dr was very kind I knew she was in great hands by how the staff was treating other animals when they exited. I’m very picky and am a crazy cat mom and had such a great experience here despite covid regulations elsewhere.

2021: I adopted my kitten (see photos of her here) here 7 years ago. She had an ailment that the vet. here took care of well. She's been a wonderful pet! Always get your pets at adoption centers like the SFSPCA. Save a life or 2.

The vets here do not actually care about the animals. They did not even do a thorough check up of my animal - they only want money.

There is a $51 charge for day boarding while in ER because you are not allowed to stay with your dog during Covid. That is really milking an epidemic to make money. $200 just to walk into the ER plus tests. My dog did not die and they took him within 20 minutes, but the fees for covid and having to wait hours between tests was unsettling. My dog came home very terrified from being kenneled all day sick and I was the one that had to call them to see if I could come back. That is animal cruelty to keep a dog stressed and sick alone in a kennel. Hire extra staff or use a patients Covid test results. Def do not charge for day boarding is it is required for the hospital. I am on Unemployment but could not get a discount (others might have better luck with having documents). A large deposit is removed from your bank account before they will take dog inside.

Came for my first post-adoption appointment after adopting my sweet kitty from the Mission location. We had a great experience, especially with all of the restrictions and changes during COVID.

Worst experience ever. The staff barged into the room literally as we were having our down out down to tell me I had to pay for an exam while my dog is laying on a pillow about to die. I will never support this organization again.

I have a 5.5 month old puppy with a very sweet temperament. He’s never been very mouthy or bitten anyone. So I was surprised when the vet tech told me he tried to bite her and “needed to be socialized more”. I understand my puppy was sick and not 100%, and he probably did try to bite out of fear. He’s also a puppy - so yes, he’s being socialized! I just wonder what actually happened since the vet tech didn’t elaborate when I asked her questions. I have no idea if something in particular triggered him, which isn’t helpful. A vet tech should be able to handle sick and confused puppies, and answer these types of questions. I don’t think I’ll come back unless I can be present while my dog is examined.

We had to take a hard decision today and let our lovely Tara put to peace. She was suffering. From the receptionist to support staff and doctor, all helped to ease our sadness. Everybody was friendly and supportive. Tara to live in peace forever the Vizsla way. I love you Tara! Thank you to all the people who helped .

I got my 2 cats and 1 dog from there and was always very well treated, helped, no rush, and answering all my questions; over the phone they always help me with all my problems, explaining everything with patience and knowledge. I help them with donation too. They're very nice and the animals deserve our help.

Great service, nice doctors. Though my only hope is it's too difficult to get an urgent care appointment. And emergency which seems to have tons of open slots is really expensive. Feels like they're just trying to force more people from urgent care -> emergency because they give you little choice if you don't call them right when they open you won't be able to see them. First available appointments are also very far out. If you have such a large backlog why not hire more vets?

Complete lack of compassion - we have come to the heart wrenching decision to put down our very loved German shepherd for behavioral issues. After a long 6 year history of behavioral therapists, trainers, several thousand dollars, muzzles, two medications, and kennels, we simply cannot keep her safe. She just bit the 5th person and has countless dog attacks too. Most people would say I should have put her to sleep long ago, but I failed, and gave both her and me the benefit of the doubt that we could do better. That I could set more boundaries, restrictions and separation. But she is just too fast and unpredictable. This last incident happened at our home with our upstairs neighbor. When we called the vet, rather than show compassion for this horribly emotional situation, they immediately started doubting our intentions and drilling us with 20 questions. I fully expected to be asked questions - that is the responsible thing for a vet to do. What I did not expect was to be charged and indicted. After the interrogations, the woman on the phone said nothing and without warning transferred me to the voicemail of the behavioral therapy division. The behavioral therapist also charge ~500$ just to see and evaluate your pet making it much less accessible. I’ve paid that fee before. I left a message anyway. They have never returned my call.

Great experience despite the unfortunate outcome. The team was really nice and unlike all the vets I've been to I feel they cared about the patient, not about milking us.

I adopted my cat, at SPCA Pacific Heights, 4 years a ago and had to use their emergency once. Nothing to complain to. Mission campus, on the other hand, has misdiagnosed my dog twice on few months, with pretty high bills. It's impossible to have urgent care appointment you have no choice than to use their emergency which is more expensive. Finally the same emergency (that you called before showing up) asks you to come the next morning because your dog needs to be sedated and it is to late to do so. When you show up at 8am, as asked, you are told that your dog is not on the scheduled list and therefor canot be treated! There very is little considerations for the well being of your pet, but way more for the way you are going to pay the bill. If you can, go elsewhere.

Quality really lowered here. Last year I spent close to a $1000 with emergency visits to this vet. I even brought a stool sample once when my dog was having major digestion issues (with blood). They didn’t do any tests on her and discarded the sample I brought, even though it was only from a few hours before. I sent so much money on emergency visits because they would not look further for anything. Just take her temperature and ask questions. I then rushed with her to Mission Pet Hospital and they did blood and stool tests. Turns out that the food the vets at SPCA were prescribing her for over two years was way too high in fat and it is supposed to be consumed only for about 2 month max. Since changing vets, she has been healthy and happy and no more issues. On top of all that, after taking her almost every month to SPCA, they insisted I take her for her annual exam otherwise they would NOT refil her flea medication. I told them how she had just been there, but they said the annual visit covers more than emergency visits. It did not! So much so that they didn’t even check for her vaccinations. Turns out she was due for Bordetella. This place became a money-grabbing place. Care for dogs does not exist anymore.

If I could give negative stars, I would. I adopted my cat here and has been going to the Mission location for the last 3 years. When I showed up to my 9:30 appointment today, the front desk told me that the appointment was actually for the Pac Heights location. I had never been there and never requested to be seen there. I was also never told that when I made the appointment. She apologized and blamed it on the call center appointment scheduler who made the mistake. She offered to call Pac Heights and let them know I was on my way, and I called a Lyft immediately. However, when I got to the Pac Heights location, they told me that they cannot see my cat because I was 19 min late for the appointment. I explained my situation and told them that someone from the Mission campus had called for me. This was not MY mistake. Pac Heights staff responded by blaming the Mission staff for not communicating to me that there was a chance I may not be seen. Pac Heights said I could wait for 2.5 hours for an emergency visit and pay the emergency visit fee. At this point, I am very upset. I was just given the run around, $50 of Lyft ride out the window, my cat threw up in her carrier and was sitting inside with her vomit. It was pouring rain outside. None of the staff took responsibility for the situation and pointed the blame to someone else. Meanwhile, my cat suffered due to the unprofessionalism and lack of sympathy. If they treat humans this way, imagine how they treat the animals! I could have just gone home if I knew Pac Heights couldn't accommodate me. They could have offered to waive the emergency fee since it's the same service. Instead, nothing. Oh but we can reschedule you!

I love the doctors and staff here. It's a nonprofit and that's a plus for me. I'm just disappointed that there have been so many cost changes lately. I suppose it's because of the climbing cost of treatment and paying staff.

We took our 10 year old Chihuahua mix female to the SF SPCA hospital/veterinary offices and travelled to San Francisco from Fairfied because it is where her Dr. now works. The Dr. had helped our dog Stella when we saw her for years at Animal Hospital in Fairfield. We will continue to make this trip whenever Stella needs care. Dr. Woodall is the best and the team at SF SPCA is far better than the old place in Fairfield since it was purchased by new owners in 2019.

Had to wait over 4 hours in line. For the money they make you pay it’s not acceptable.

I recently brought in my mother's 12 year old cat for an evaluation and subsequent dental surgery. The bad: it can be very difficult to get through to make an appointment. I almost gave up bringing the cat as a result, however because my mother is very low income, I hoped to receive discounted services on her behalf. Discounted care did not happen because pet dental care does not qualify for this. The good: The customer service (once you get a hold of them) is very good. The staff are very caring and informative. The actual veterinarian exam was very thorough and unrushed. The cat soon after was taken back to have 15 (!!!) teeth extracted. His care was very good and the communication was excellent, and it was a good experience. The cat is home recovering and doing great. The final cost was not the maximum end of the estimate (more like mid-way). I did not feel like we were being up-sold on anything. Moving forward, mom's cats may be going to a facility closer by, but I still highly recommend SPCA.
