Barking Lot Dog Grooming San Francisco, California

Not sure why there are some negative reviews but we've been taking our dog here for 2-3 years now. Joy does a detailed and caring job with all the haircuts she's does. SF has some sketchy dog grooming places and this is definitely not one of them. A neighborhood gem.

Said that she’s not able to cut hair of dogs over the age of 11? Weird.

Joy did a fantastic job of turning my sweet little mini poodle from a ragamuffin to a superstar! We are both super pleased and will be frequenting this place for sure.

Joy is amazing. She's a real artist and one of the sweetest, nicest people you will ever meet. She's very gentle with my dog Colbie who is very scared of being groomed. I've been going to her for five years now.

I'm habitually too long between groomings for our two Beagles, presenting a major challenge to restoring the white part of their tri-colored scheme and to returning their coats to optimal condition. Joy and John are not only up to the challenge, but do so with great warmth toward our dogs. They're great and they care!

Over 14 years ago, we introduced our first Yorkie to a number of groomers based on reputation or a recommendation. He would typically resist as we approached the entrance and was not pleased. That changed after we went to Barking Lot. He has always walked through the door without hesitation. Joy has a way with dogs. They seem safe and comforted with her, and I don’t recall ever seeing a harness used on any of the dogs. John handles them with loving care. We are routinely stopped in the streets by comments about how adorable our dogs are with their puppy cuts and then asked where our dogs are groomed. And even though Joy is apparently only one of two groomers in the city to pass the rigorous requirements for the National Dog Groomers Association of America, we feel that her prices are reasonable. We cannot recommend Barking Lot more highly.

Joy knows dogs, works amazingly well with dogs and has an artistic knack for grooming.

These guys are great. They keep our golden doodle's coat in tip top shape, whether it's short or long, and he LOVES Joy and John. Highly recommended.

I made an appointment and tried to be as specific as possible about my bread of dog. The owner did not ask any questions or show any hesitation about grooming a standard poodle until we showed up at her door. She canceled on us on the spot. Apparently, she does not know what a standard poodle is. She completely wasted my day. This is an unorganized mom and pop shop. I would only use them if you have time on your hands. If you are like me and have to choose between getting the car fixed and your dog groomed on your day off, then this is not the place to go.

I've had taken my dog to the Barking Lot since I rescued my dog. Joy and John have always done a great job. I highly recommend.

I have been taking my dog here since we got him six years ago. This family owned shop is fabulous because the owners Joy and John care about what they do, and treat every dog and cat with the love, care and compassion that they would have if the client was their own pet. Joy recently became certified in hand striping, where she cuts the dogs coat comepletely by hand (no shaving/shearing tools), this gives the dog a much more natural appearance and looks very natural vs. the more common clipper cut (which she can also do by request). Prices are in line with the areas other shops but I take him here because of the special attention she gives my dog.
