This vet clinic rips you off! They try and take every hard earn dollar from you. For example my dog gets a recurring foot rash. I use a shampoo and a prescription cream. They want you to spend $74 on an exam when earlier in the year I did the same thing. I asked instead if I could bring her in so the vet could look at the paws. They said no and that I need the $74 exam because it’s a prescription. I asked her since this has already been prescribed to my dog a few months back what the difference was from the vet looking at the paws over the exam and she put me on hold and then came back and said that another tech told her, I don’t even remember anymore but it was hog wash. It’s a cream for a rash my dog has had this same year that they recommended me and I had been going here for over a year. This vet is the one that prescribed the ointment in the past. It’s a cream for a paw infection ! Don’t go unless you want to throw your money away!!!!

DON'T EVER GO THERE! Dr. Valerie told me the growth on my cat Jacy's hind leg wasn't cancerous and didn't need to be removed. Forward to 1 year later and my Jacy is dead. As it turns out the growth on his hind leg was cancerous and had spread to his lungs. This lady is by far the worst and most unprofessional vet I've ever met. I blame her for my cat's death!

I have been taking my dogs Rosie and Bear to Point Loma Veterinary Clinic since they were puppies. They are now 10 and 11 years old. I am always happy with the service, the staff if always very nice and my dogs have had the best care there. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Cardeiro and her staff are excellent: friendly, kind, and willing to answer all my questions. They always take great care of my dog, Peach. From surgery to allergies to check-ups, every visit has been positive. Dr. Cardeiro is so calm and informative, I love her demeanor and it puts Peach at ease when she is nervous. I also appreciate how they don't pressure me to purchase extras, they give me the options and let me choose without judgement. I'm so thankful to have a great vet for my pup!

I went here for a first appointment, arrived early and sat in a room for 45 minutes. No one apologized for any wait or let me know the vet was running behind. When I told staff that my time is also valuable and 45 minutes was excessive wait with no explanation I was told the vet couldn’t see me. Respect goes both ways… I felt none from the staff or vet, only arrogance. In response to owner’s reply: 1) I never asked how long it was going to take. Only after waiting 30 minutes with no update I asked if they had an idea how much longer it would be before I would be seen. I gave all prior vets information as well as vaccine reaction history. I also looked up the phone number of our old vet and supplied it to the tech. 2) after 45 minutes a tech walked in and asked for the dogs weight and few questions like kind of dog food I feed him. I was then told by the receptionist that the “appointments take an hour to an hour and a half to be “thorough”. Apparently “being thorough” means sitting in an office for an hour and asked a few questions. A simple update from any of the staff letting me know the vet was running behind would have solved any issue….call it courtesy.

I have been bringing my chow chow here since he was a puppy and service is always outstanding. Techs and vet are detailed and warm with Leo and make sure to go over everything when we are there. Can’t say enough good things! Thank you!!

The vet and their vet techs are great and seem to care about the patients they see. I had no problem with them, this is my first review ever because I was taken aback by the letter I received in the mail from them. Our dog has a medication that needs to be renewed every year. When I set up the appointment, I made sure to let them know that we wanted a rx renewal and they needed to run some tests and so on. So we did, had a great encounter there. When I tried to ask how much the rx would be through them (because it can be a pricey rx and we have two dogs to worry about so we want the best deal) but they told me “we can’t give you that price.” I said, okay then, I’ll continue to buy from pet meds and bring our pups for annuals and vaccines in the future. They said they could price match and they took the price from us and then came back and told us they couldn’t match it, when I asked their price. NOTHING negative was said during the visit. Imagine my surprise to receive this unfortunate letter in the mail a week later. We were planning to keep visiting them because it was a good encounter…Not returning and have no interest in going back to a passive aggressive vet. Thank you for the care that you gave our dogs but this was so unnecessary and we were going to go back…

They have the worst possible service in San Diego. !!!!!! RUN AWAY FROM THIS CLINIC. !!!!!!! I took my dog in to get a prescription for a thyroid problem. They "recommended" a different type of food, because my dog had a possible food allergy. Before buying from them, I decided to research the price of the food in other places (MY RIGHT). I decided to buy from Petco. However, on any site, you must receive approval from your current veterinarian. The Petco team contacted the clinic and they cancelled my order WITHOUT AT LEAST CONSULTING ME. I called them and asked them why and they told me that I SHOULD buy from them and not Petco. So I claimed my freedom of choice, then they told me to reorder and that they would authorize it. I waited 4 days for this authorization (WHICH DOES NOT EVEN happen!) and called the clinic again. My dog does not have any food because the clinic refuses to authorize me to buy elsewhere. They are concerned ONLY WITH THE PROFIT OF THE SALE OF THE PRODUCTS and not with the health of the animals (which in my opinion should be a prerogative of any veterinary clinic). Furthermore, the prescription for thyroid came without the correct name of the active ingredient. Probably so that I have to buy it only with the clinic itself and not in any other pharmacy of my preference. They even denied and continue to deny my right to receive such a prescription in writing.

Dr. Cardeiro and the vet techs are professional and caring. During the first consultation, Dr. Carderio was thorough with the examination, she came out and went over my dog’s history and explained everything. Her experience shows as she recommended things for my dog’s various ailments that we were already doing after months of trial and error but hadn’t mentioned yet. She demonstrated a lot of care and not at any point did we feel pressured to do anything unnecessary. We decided to come back for my dog’s dental. They did a great job being transparent about costs and providing a detailed estimate. I am a very nervous dog mom and was worried about my dog as she is older and very anxious; the staff was very kind to me when I called a bunch of times to check on her throughout the day. They did a fantastic job cleaning her teeth, they look like puppy teeth now. The prices are very reasonable for quality care. Will definitely be scheduling a dental for my other dog.

I have always had great experiences here with my cat, and they have worked with me when bills have been surprisingly high after complications during procedures. Doc always describes everything in detail that was done, how it effects your pet, and what you can do to help the problem if it is something long term. Even through not being able to come inside, I never felt anxious leaving my best friend in their care

They missed two torn ACL’s in my dog. Meanwhile I went to 3 different vets and a pet hospital all of which pointed out two torn ACL’s. Also my dog couldn’t walk. Point Loma vet said they were sure my dog was fine. They were wrong. Over a year later I come back to get my dog vaccinated and I have to wait over an hour while the parking lot is empty. And they add ridiculous charges that are completely ridiculous. Don’t trust these idiots.

My son has a certified support dog. He takes her everywhere and takes very good care of her. He had HER ANNUAL exam and shots done in July of this year from PLVC and has since then been traveling. He has the dog certified as an emotional support animal but needed some information to close the deal for air travel from PLVC. Mind you he paid for an exam and shots and they would not provide him with the information he needed without an additional exam to finish the certification. I guess money over people is their motto.

I visited Point Loma Vet for the first time to take my dog Hope age 12 in for an annual exam and also a second opinion because the vet I have been going to for 10 years “Balboa Vet under Dr. Gundersen’s care said that she had a heart murmur level 5 and an ear infection. I had a nagging feeling so I sought a second opinion.. I went to Point Loma after I googled their reviews . Dr. CARDIERO performed the exam on Hope and came out to the car to meet me and to explain her findings. She was polite, patient, and was thorough on her explanation of her findings. She thought Hope had a heart murmur. She took the time to explain the levels which are 1-6 and she felt Hope had a level 2. . Dr. CARDIERO suggested an x-ray of Hope’s chest so she could view the heart and see if it looks enlarged and that would give her a better indication of what she was dealing with. After the x-ray was conducted, Dr. CARDIERO came back out to my car and asked me if I would like to come into her office so that way she could explain her findings after viewing the results of the x-ray. She said Hope’s x-ray does not reveal a heart murmur and looks very good for her age and she does not see any issues regarding her heart???? Dr. CARDIERO also asked me what type of food I was feeding Hope and I said I was feeding her a grain free brand that my other vet recommended. She mentioned that’s probably not a good idea because grain free dog foods have been known to cause heart problems and weight gain because they are so sugary. Hope is 18.5 pounds so she recommended that she get on a different type of food , have me rheee names of dogs food that had been tested for proper nutrients, and to start feeding her less as she wants her to lose a few pounds. My experience at Point Loma Vet has been great so far and I will definitely be bringing my three dogs back there for their routine care. Trust is very important to me and once a vet breaks that trust then it’s time for me to seek a vet that I have confidence in!! Thank you again Dr. CARDIERO and your staff for your outstanding care of Hope and I look forward to doing business with you in the future. Please continue to have that wonderful bedside manner that you have which made me feel confidant in knowing that my dog was in good hands????????

I have traveled the country both in the military and as a civilian and I travel with cats. I am getting ready to move again and due to Covid19, my Vet was too busy to see me. I had no choice but to go here to get shots and meds for my cats. I have never, ever had a worse experience in my life. I had an appointment that I made a week ahead and I arrived 15 minutes early like they asked. They kept taking dogs in even though I called from my car and told them I was there (you can't go in right now). I waited a 1/2 hour and called again- they said they forgot me. It took a good 10 minutes for someone to talk to me, then more time for them to get the cats inside. Then they totally forgot about me. I arrived at 2:45 for a routine exam and shots for my cats and left at 6:15. I was in my car waiting the whole time. No one is practicing safe distancing either. They kept coming right up to people's windows... about a foot away! I told them to go to the other side of the car! They had masks on and that's the only thing they did correctly. The vet is old and not informed about new meds. The meds I asked for come in a liquid, which is easy to give to cats, but they gave me pills. They didn't even know it came in a liquid. The vet diagnosed my cat with an infection "of some sort" in his ear, but did not do any tests... and it's an easy test because I asked my real Vet later. After hours of being left out there and forgotten (3 1/2 hours for a routine visit!) they didn't put the meds in the bag. I had to call back and get them and the tech kept saying she was "so embarrassed". I went home frustrated and sad. When I called to talk about what happened, the receptionist was very kind and said the lead vet tech would call me back. She didn't. I called the next day and said I wanted to talk about what happened and they assured me she would call. She didn't.. again. This is the most unprofessional place I have ever been to. I was there all afternoon for a routine visit, I was told I was "forgotten about" and they didn't offer any discount at all. Instead, they ignored me and I am local. I have told every person I know to stay away and I am posting bad reviews everywhere possible since they won't answer me. I have never written a bad review about a Vet, but I need to this time. It was the worst.

All I can say is Wow! Dr. Valerie Cardeiro is absolutely amazing. She's an animal whisperer I swear. All of her staff is so friendly and sweet and really talk you through what's going on. We have 2 big dogs and they are always happy to come see Dr. Cardeiro. Best Veterinarian I've ever had the pleasure of bringing my furry loved ones too. Highly recommend!!!

To start, PLVC staff took care of my dog. His procedure went fine and we are thankful for their help. However, very disappointing experience upon checkout. I was pushed to purchase their 'in-house" special dog food because of a suspected allergy. After taking a moment to breath (after coughing up nearly $600 for my dogs procedure) I realized I couldn't sustain a $150 dollars of dog food moving forward. When I tried to return it concluding my visit, I was met with discontent and disparage. I was told that I, in fact, can afford it (laughable) and that they wouldn't accept my return. My dog had to try it first before accepting a return (what?!) After having to pretty much lay out my finances on the streets of ob to the vet tech (in front of other customers I might add) and about 20 minutes of back and forth, I was finally refunded. I would not recommend this clinic now for that reason and unfortunately will not be retuning.

I have been bringing my mini wiener dog puppy to Point Loma Veterinary Clinic for all his puppy shots, and I am very happy with the service. My pup loves coming here, even though its always been for shots. They are very friendly, and seem to honestly care about the animals they treat. Free nail trimmings during puppy exams are super convenient too. I would recommend this place to everyone who loves their pet.

I bring my cat and 3 dogs here. My older dog is terrified of vets and normally won’t come out from under a chair, but here he walks around the room and plays with his brother. When my cat needed emergency surgery, not only did the staff save his life but they continue to go above and beyond with his care. I am so happy we started coming here when we moved to San Diego.

Emma and Dr. Cadeiro gave Kevin amazing treatment today! I highly recommend this spot for all veterinary needs. I came in for a booster vaccine and they were so thorough they diagnosed him on the spot with seasonal allergies also. They were able to solve our problem we’ve been battling for months! Kevin says amazing team and thanks again ladies!!!!
