Took my chameleon since it was not looking good. I was told she was cold, poor thing, and i got a lot of information and instructions on what to do to get it better and what improvements i needed to make in her enclosure. I got an appointment right the next day and it was not as pricey as i was afraid to.

Even though I did not like the news for my pet, Dr Boyer is professional and great. Strongly recommended.

Honestly a mixed experience. I have a 26 year old snake and he hadn't eaten for the past 4 - 5 months so I came in expecting an assisted feeding to encourage my Rosey Boa to eat again or atleast some direction on what's happening. I had to wait by my car for over 3 hours to get information about my snake (set a previous apt at 10 am was there for 3 hours). They told me info about my snake's tail being damaged and needing an x-ray. After the X-ray they mentioned the possibility of needing an amputation, further bloodwork, and considering the possibility of euthanasia. I've had this snake since I was seven and was obviously a mess trying to figure out the right path, they were kind of cold in telling me and the prices for all the processes were quite high ($60+ for Check up, $250+ for XRay, $250+ for Bloodwork). Considering my snakes age, I opted out of bloodwork and just asked for pain medication and their recommendation for when to euthanize if my snake still wasn't eating. They said they'd give me pain medication for a month and if my snake hadn't eaten by then it'd be time for him to go. They actually only gave me pain medication for two weeks, luckily my snake just started eating again and seems to be doing well after the two weeks, but the bill was over $400 for something I thought would just be assisted eating. My snake had also been to this hospital multiple times before (when I was a young kid) and they didn't maintain any record of his previous visits which I believe could've avoided the need for an xray, as he had been to the hospital before for tail damage by a mouse. The nail in the coffin that made me write this review is that they won't stop sending me spam email for discounts about dogs and cats for which I never signed up for and tried unsubscribing but couldn't. In the end, their help did indeed save my snake (for which I am very appreciative) but it wasn't a great experience overall.

Our rescued bearded dragon was stressed out and had trouble breathing. We took him to these fine folks, who were able to diagnose him with pneumonia. Unfortunately, we had to leave town, and left our little guy in their care for two weeks. They took great care of him, and when we returned, he was content and chill. they left us with the remaining antibiotic injections we needed to administer, and he seems like a happy dude now. So glad these folks never made it a problem, and took such great care of us.

I honestly don't know how they could make my experience any better. They have cared for my little Yorkie since he was 3 months old. They have always been patient, sweet, and loving towards him, even sending a Birthday card each year. My little Bentley has had a lifelong complicated case, with his intestinal tract. Drs Boyer and Mendez have always been very good about explaining everything to me and following up with me on how he is progressing. When necessary the don't hesitate to utilize specialists. For Bentley, my tiny 15yr old Yorkie they had an ultrasound specialist come in to check his intestinal tract. I truly trust their knowledgeable staff and expertise.

So grateful that Mysti was able to squeeze Daisy, our beloved guinea pig, in for an appointment. She had stopped eating, was weak and we didn't know what was wrong with her. Dr. Mendez was able to diagnose her illness and nurse her back to health. I also learned which veggies are good for her to eat and the quantity. Megan and the other staff was so nice and friendly and I could tell that they really cared about my pet. Prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos!!

I would definitely recommend ANY pet owner to take their animal to this place! We have taken our 2 guinea pigs and bearded dragon here for years, and they have provided fantastic care! They have never pressured me to do more tests than needed.

My experience with Dr. Boyer was great! I was able to get the help for Sparky that I needed and I also got personal calls from him and his staff the following days to make sure my tortoise was doing well with his medication. I truly appreciate the care they gave to my tortoise at this time :)

I really don’t like writing reviews let alone a negative one. But the woman that schedules and I’m not sure if it is the same one that came to pick up and drop of my dog. She doesn’t seem to have a clue to what’s going on, she messed up my appointment and wasted my time and then was rude about it and was very rude and blunt during drop off/pick up. I had standard questions that I asked and she acted if I was testing her knowledge and was snotty. Not helpful at all. It was an uncomfortable experience and I hate to say it but I’ll be taking my dog to somewhere else. However I will say that Dr.Mendez I think was his name was very nice and professional but based on the help I received on the phone and front desk I will bit be coming back until they hopefully correct or change some of the employees.

Kind of weird going to the vet during covid. We dropped off our cat in the parking lot and they came out to pick her up performed all the services and then called us when they were done. Very informative on the phone kept us up on everything that was going on and the doctor is more than willing to answer any questions

Dr. Barton and his staff gave excellent care to our cats and our guinea pig. They were kind, honest, thorough, and fairly priced. We have moved out of state and I am struggling to find another vet that is comparable.

Quitting my job at my vet clinic and coming from out of state with my last two senior rats I knew their time would be coming soon. I had only been down here for a week before my ancient Egg boy decided to take a turn. Frantically searching for places that would see rats, I had tried to get him in here for a QOL a most likely euthanasia but only to be told “ he has to hang in there by Thursday when we have time”. I explained he was practically dying in my hands and I didn’t want to see him suffer for that long. Receptionist didn’t seem to care and practically shrugged at it oh well “ not much we can do” I know what working in a clinic is like. I was appalled and disgusted. Can’t even work in a euthanasia? I was willing to pay their outrageous prices ( worse than Washington emergency rates) The only Vet was out doing house calls until 2pm. But couldn’t do anything until the next day and I would have to drop him off to be euthanized between the doctors apts. This place isn’t a hospital it’s a causal apt clinic. I went with another exotic vet downtown that was actually able to work us in and I was able to be there for my rat boy who passed over.

My guinea pig scratched her eye badly. Took her here and was prescribed a thick cream to apply to her eye. Took her back after a week and her eye looked horrible. I was then referred to an eye specialist for guinea pigs who informed me the prescription the vet at this pet hospital had prescribed me the wrong medication and the thick cream that I had been applying was corroding her cornea. Yikes! I wish I had seen or knew of the eye specialist sooner!

With physical distancing in effect they took good care of my Gecko while I waited in the safety of my vehicle. The vet called, me and easy peasy, we got the care we needed. Glad we used Pet Hospital of PQ.

Smaller than anticipated. Incredibly friendly staff. Dr. Boyer seemed very knowledgeable about my leopard gecko. He gave me loads of advice, answered my questions, and gave me some good care sheets. Quite pricey, although I'm not sure how the prices compare to other vets.

When our rat passed, they made the sweetest memorial clay tablet with paws and tail print. So sweet. Kind, knowledgeable staff knows their stuff for our small critters. Pricing is decent, too! Thanks guys!

We brought our chinchilla in for a checkup and it was great, we got to ask any questions we had about him, they checked his teeth and everything else and I would 100% recommend this pet hospital.

Our guinea pig Egg Nog was bloated almost twice her usual size and had stopped eating. The vet said she was about to die--even with surgery the odds were against her. He said, however, that he'd had a similar case a couple years ago in which he'd lost a guinea pig, from which he'd learned some lessons. He was able to minimize surgery time, even while extracting a 2 pound cyst the size of my fist, and gave Egg Nog an excellent post-op plan. Today, 4 months later, Egg Nog is thriving as if nothing had ever happened, and much appreciated by her sister Nutmeg (not shown).

We're so fortunate to have found Dr. Boyer. After trying several vets around San Diego county, we were referred to Dr. Boyer for help in saving our beloved "beardie," Zooey. We have had MANY beardies throughout the years, with 99% of them being healthy and living long lives. But this case was different. After tests, we learned that Zooey had two tumors in his abdomen, and surgery, unfortunately, was not an option. We had little notice... since these were fast-growing masses. (Zooey had been seen by another vet --a good one-- six months ago, but only for joint pain-- which was treated with Baytril.) Dr. Boyer gave us good advice, and took steps to lessen Zooey's swelling, so he would be more mobile and comfortable. He has improved some, is still active, eating and aware, so I'm glad we didn't immediately put him down. I also want to thank Dr. Boyer's staff. They were SO helpful and kind, from the moment we walked in the office. Plus, I was very impressed with the comprehensive questionaires given to outline our pet's daily care. With beardies, food--cages--sun and light are SO important to a dragon's quality of life (along with love, attention & baths, too.) The staff also sent follow-up texts to check Zooey's health after our appointment. That was special and much appreciated! I'm hoping for some kind of *miracle* in Zooey's case, but we won't let him suffer. We'll know when it's time. For now, thanks to Dr. Boyer and all his staff, as we navigate through this difficult period. Your help and knowledge meant the world to us!
