Excellent, I have seen 2 women vets , both nice and professional. The nurses are fantastic with both dogs and owners.

Abby from the front desk is extremely rude and not helpful at all. I called to see about getting coverage for my pet, and she said that they don’t offer that. I told her that I have seen it multiple times on their website and have been offered it in person. She said “oh you’re talking about the care wellness plan”. Um, okay? Because I don’t know the specific name of the plan, you don’t offer it at all? I can tell through the phone that she is lazy and does not want to answer calls or be helpful. Very unprofessional - I called VCA on Laurel Street, they are much nicer.

Feels like a car dealership where they’re trying to get the most money out of your pocket. First visit, won’t be coming back here. Looking for a new vet that I can trust. Not posting details, because they’ll come back with some nonsense like they did for the other reviews. If you get some kind of discount to go to these VCA clinics, sure go ahead. But do yourself and your dog a favor and find a real vet afterwards.

Wow. I cannot express how thankful I am to have this hospital. They were very attentive and was able to see my pet the same day I called! When I wasn’t sure if it was urgent, they were able to ask thorough questions to help determine if my pet should be seen now or wait for an appointment. The appointment was an easy process for me. All I had to do was wait in my car and wait for a phone call. Everything was contactless which obviously is important to me given covid. Even when I arrived my pet did not hesitate to go with the nurses, you could tell she trusted them! Thanks VCA San Carlos for going above and beyond!

One more update...the owner of the clinic was kind enough to contact me to discuss my concerns. She did address them with the staff. __ I will leave my previous, glowing review, but in recent months we have not been as pleased with the care. Our dog was unusually lethargic, and while we are grateful the VCA diagnosed her with hypothyroidism, there were two instances of tests we declined that they proceeded with and charged us. Additionally we are not receiving written summaries or itemized invoices. The thing that concerns us most is we strongly feel our dog is receiving too high of a dose of medication as we are seeing adverse reactions. Instead of investigating our concerns, we were assured that we needed to continue with the higher dose based on lab results (my dad was a medical researcher, I get this, but labs vs. symptoms, please be curious). I simply don't feel they are taking the time to care for our concerns and questions. __ 6 Years Earlier Thank you doesn’t even begin to express our gratitude for what Dr Haddad and staff did for our dog. Our dog sitter notified us that our dog Matilda had been sick to her stomach since our departure. First day we thought it was nerves, but by the 2nd day, we realized something serious was wrong. Our dog sitter took Matilda to San Carlos Pet Hospital (referral from a friend). We were 2000 miles away at a family reunion ( a short 4 day trip), and the staff kept in frequent contact with us on her condition. They were very practical with the tests which were run and reasonable with the charges. After a few inconclusive tests (important ones to rule out illness), the doctors felt it was likely there was an obstruction in her GI which wasn't showing up on x-ray. Having a father who was a medical researcher I understood how this was possible, so when they suggested ultra-sound, we proceeded. The staff moved forward with calling every possible resource for the ultrasound in the Bay Area. Once they secured an appointment, (but with only an hours notice and, again, being 2000 miles away), we were unable to transport Matilda to her ultrasound appointment. We called friends, pet taxi services and couldn't find anyone to transport her. So the owner took it upon herself to transport Matilda to the other clinic. (We are still so grateful for this!!!) Obstruction was found and Dr Haddad, came in after hours to perform her surgery. In total, 5 doctors attended to Matilda, kept us posted around the clock (literally we received a call at 3:30 am when Matilda was not doing well). With so much that happened in those few days, in the end, we feel the billing was also reasonable. Truly, we will never go to another vet. This is our vet clinic going forward. They are remarkable. Message to Dr Haddad and staff "Your treatment of Matilda was outstanding and to say you went above and beyond is an understatement. This sort of dedication to your patients makes you all exceptional vets. You saved our dogs life and provided her with affection and comfort in our absence. (Tearful) Our sincere thanks to all of you."

I had the misfortune of having the same doc for both visits for 2 different cats. It was like being at a car dealership... didn’t give me options at all . I realized later I paid the highest rate for both cats. I had to have one of my babies put to sleep yesterday and chose to go to another clinic in Redwood City. Now This is where I should have gone initially. Health options were discussed, pricing options... they were amazing.

When your furry child of over 11 years falls ill & has never before, you *need* TLC, ownership (being treated as you’d if the pet were yours) & with the skill, experience, compassion & empathy warranted in such cases. Drs Bolich & Chatcuff, all the nurses & vet techs, frontline team Melissa & Abby, are truly exceptional human beings & professionals. This was so very scary for us & at a rather tender time in life, even more so. Thank you, Team VCA Bayside & San Carlos — you rock!!❤️????????

I had an Rx from a VCA vet who works in San Martin. As I live in San Carlos I just needed an extra bag of kidney diet kibble which this location sells. Because I haven't been seen (nor would I ever return to this location) in 12 months they would not sell me 1 bag to hold me over. Even with an Rx. Even with a VCA comparable visit. Furthermore - your reply is incorrect. The clinic called me to apologize and reiterated that even the FDA doesn't classify animal prescription diet in need of an Rx even though I had one. And your admin stated that I had to be seen by a VCA vet. Maybe explore with your clinic prior to posting an incorrect statement.

Yesterday my daughter brought our cat in for a emergency, our normal vet at Whipple Vet could not see our cat,he was not using his back legs. The assistent for Vet call me at work to tell me what needed to be done they said between $1,500-$2,000. I ask to please just do what was needed. Xray, fluid and meds. They lady came back on phone said it would be $1,033 for everything, that my daughter would need to put deposit down,I said ok she can pay it,she has my credit card. Well my cat was given 6 pain meds, information med. 2 of them. My cat is not well at all. I call this morning to ask what else could be going on and was told that they only collected 75% of the bill and now it’s $1,200. Now Im told I need to bring my cat back in and come pay the rest of the bill.

All they care is making money and they don’t care about your pet’s individual care. My pet has been vomiting 5 times in 2 days after and didn’t eat any food after their health test. They didn’t consider the fact that my pet is too young to draw blood and deworming because they only want to make money. Later my breeder told me that it is extremely inappropriate to have such a young cat deworm without doing poop test first. But they NEVER say anything about it. Well either they are very UNPROFESSIONAL or they don’t care about side effects and they just want to get paid. Don’t reply your phone call (I called twice a day and they said they will call me in next 30 minutes. But all u got is a text message to ask you to call them again? What the heck?)and ask for ridiculous prices. I’ll definitely see their director in the court!

This is the best VCA Pet Hospital on the Peninsula! First exam is free and the Doctor/ Veterinarian is awesome! They genuinely care about your pets and are so nice. They will also text the next day to check on your pet and you can reply by text and even make appointments via text! I come here from Burlingame and will never go anywhere else now! (Today is our second visit)

I can't say enough about them. From the front desk to the vets show such respect to their human clients and love to your pet. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Excellent care for my cat. They give estimates on costs for my pet's basic needs and on their recommended care program. Everything is explained and my questions answered before treatment of any kind. I highly recommend this animal hospital.

My boy's dog Zoey got into a box of chocolate and we rushed her to the hospital. The staff took her right away and they pumped her stomach, gave her subcutaneous fluid and an anti-nausea medicine. The doctor must have gotten almost all of …

The staff here are breathtakingly incompetent. I have a diabetic dog that needs specific care and a set schedule plus another dog with no special needs. Going on a long planned vacation, I investigated numerous boarding facilities and chose San Carlos because they had a vet tech on site all night so they could meet my dog's needs without changing his schedule. I even provided a copy of his med schedule when I toured this facility and confirmed this when I made the reservation a month in advance. I happily agreed to an exam since I would need to go over the meds again. Everyone I interacted with at that time assured me my dog's needs would be met. To make a long story short, this proved not to be the case. They discontinued the night tech about the time I made the reservation but never informed me and would no longer meet his needs. They refused to make any effort to do anything to find a way to make the situation work, would not even agree that they would ensure his meds were given at the prescribed interval. I was hours from boarding a flight, late on a Saturday afternoon. I couldn't leave my dogs there, I wasn't sure the diabetic one would survive their "care". I couldn't find an alternative so ended up not making the trip. This place is a mess. While the tech I met with was sympathetic, she consulted with managers who obviously had no accountability for their actions and had not the slightest care for the health of this dog. The vets may be fine, I never got that far, but the adminstration shouldn't be in a business that involves living, breathing animals. Update: The response from the owner comes AFTER I already spoke to the manager (she called me, I didn't call her) so obviously this is just a canned response. As I told her, "sorry" doesn't cut it - if they really wanted to do something she could get out her checkbook and write me a check for the money I lost cancelling a prepaid vacation within hours of departure. Of course, that's not going to happen. The bottom line is this business doesn't care about it's customers and even worse, shows absolutely no concern for the health of the animals that they claim to care for.

When I take my kitty there I know he is well loved! I try to see Dr Haddad and he lets her do most anything to him because he knows he is in good hands. THe receptionists are wonderful and efficient and the animal techs are so kind to the animals and the animal's "parents" too! Like most vets, though, it does cost more than I would like to pay. WIsh they had some senior rates...hint, hint!

When my 17-year old cat became suddenly ill my regular Vet was unable to schedule an appointment with us and I tried Veterinary Wellness Center in an emergency. The staff was amazing, saw us right away, were so compassionate to our poor kitty, and she received immediate and quality veterinary care and attention. The fact that the Wellness Center is open 24 hours a day/night and 7 days a week ensures that all my pets are seen whenever they have a need and scheduling is not dependent on an 8-hour work day. Frankly, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want this care for their pet, especially considering the superior veterinary services provided at the Wellness Center.

I Went to San Carlos Pet hospital when i was visiting my family, from Santa Barbara and they gave me information my regular vet didn't give me. They were able to spend more time with me explaining the type of care my dog needed and the diet she should be on so my dog can be as healthy as possible. With out this extra time the gave me i would still have been oblivious to the care my dog should be getting instead of reading about what she MIGHT need. Thank you San Carlos Pet Hospital. I wish you where located EVERYWHERE!!! :)

We've been really happy with the service our dogs and cats have gotten. The vets and staff are friendly and helpful, the waiting area is spacious, and the parking is easy. I also took one of our dogs in for emergency care late at night, and it ended well. Very good experience.

I brought our cat Denver into San Carlos Pet Hospital to have a foxtail in his ear removed. I was so pleased with the service. The entire staff was professional, genuinely friendly, and very caring toward Denver. I felt like the medical team did just what they needed to do to relieve the foxtail irritation without trying to 'sell' me additional unnecessary services. I left the office feeling very grateful to have found this wonderful hospital where I know all my pets will get exceptional professional care.

I've been bringing my dogs here for years and have had only positive experiences. Recently one of my dogs swallowed an entire banana, with the skin and stem. I called the office and was told to bring him right in. He was treated almost immediately and was fine and ready to come home in around an hour and a half. The vets we've seen, Dr. Haddad and Dr. Stauber, are both friendly and professional. The nurse is wonderful. I'm happy they've become a 24 hour emergency center so I would no longer have to drive to Palo Alto for after-hours care.
