I have been going here for years, they are so kind and helpful. So glad to be back in the area after a year away so our cats get the best care ????

I've tried a few vets over the years but this is easily my favorite. They took wonderful care of my cats throughout their lives. All the staff were exceptionally compassionate when I had to say goodbye to my cat a few years ago and let me stay after hours during her final moments.

South Hillsdale Animal Hospital takes care of your pets as though they were family, and the price for services is very reasonable as well. We will always count on the staff and doctors here to have the best interests of our animals in mind.

Knowledgeable enough vet, but VERY pricey. It is also really annoying that they still don’t let owners in with their pets. Plan on waiting in your car for at least 10 mins before they take your dog.

We followed Dr Clemons to South Hillsdale and have found the staff and veterinarians very capable and accommodating. We highly recommend their practice! 5 Stars

Vet at this location recommended a number of very expensive tests for my dog who seemed to have a tumor. When I double checked with my regular vet, he was surprised not only on the cost but also the number of tests that the Vet at South Hillsdale Anima Hospital wanted to perform. In short, just two of those tests cost as much as the whole surgery which should have been the first move when a tumor was identified. I wasted hundreds of dollars and if it were down to the Vet at this location I would still be spending hundreds of dollars to get inconclusive results to unnecessary tests... I'm changing my local vet for sure.

We have had several recent trips to South Hillsdale Animal Hospital with our dog for a number of health issues. Each time they have been awesome.Their communication on what was happening, flexibility to see our dog and calling to check in on his progress each time both appreciated and unexpected. We were also happy with both the explanation of the costs and the costs themselves, good value all round.

The Vets and technicians at South Hillsdale Animal Hospital are excellent. So good with all animals especially if your pet has chronic issues. In cooperation with SAGE they are helping me keep my kitty that has cancer comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Carabelo for her gentle touch!

I have been bringing my pets to South Hillsdale Animal Hospital for years. All of the staff from doctors to receptionists are top notch. They all go that extra mile to help frazzled pet parents and their precious pets. Even though I do not live in San Mateo any longer, I still make the longer drive from my house for vet appointments. It is worth traveling those extra miles for peace of mind.

All the veterinarians at South Hillsdale Animal Hospital have been the best thing that has happened to our furry family over the past 20 years. We are so blessed to have found a group of doctors that tells it like it is, with good side bed bedside manner, even if the information is hard to hear.

Absolutely love Dr. Roossien! She's so sweet with my naked boys. Great, small practice where animals are #1 priority over billing!

Caring veterinary staff, appointments are on time, clean facility. We haven’t dealt with a really sick kitty, just his routine check ups.

Dr. Roossien is the best! Today was the annual exam. She took the time to connect with my pooch, and he complied. He can be defiant, but she took the steps to help him to be comfortable, and he trusts her. I have never seen him trust a doctor the way he does with Dr Roossien. Thank you!!! Sarah, who works the front, is awesome. She knows us by face & name, and has been a fantastic with requests when we need documentation sent to specialists. She is irreplaceable and we're very lucky to have her as part of our team.

Love Dr. Roossien. We have a long history here. My cat got hit by a car. I arrived in a complete panic and they calmed my cat firstly, which calmed me. Dr Rossien did everything she could before sending me along. As she was taking care of my cat I saw a tear in her eye...she cares so much......and when we had a specialist look at Kate, Dr Rossien had called it all. Kate to this day....7 years later remembers her. Can't recommend her highly enough. She takes care of our other cat and dog.

The dr. Really care about your pets but be prepared for extremely high bills without full disclosure of costs up front

I have been taking my pets here for 14 years. I currently have 1 cat that is 15, one that is 4 and two standard poodles (1 and 8). I only recently had something scary, health wise, happen to my 8 year old dog. I called them and they talked through the symptoms and just told me to bring him in right away. Dr Harrington is very thorough and has still been checking back with me as he’s still having some symptoms. They are very caring there. The techs are also amazing and gentle and you can tell they love the animals. My pets are part of our family and couldn’t imagine trusting anyone else to their health.

I've been taking my dogs here for over 4 years and we've seen several different veterinarians. I've liked all of them, and always felt like my dogs received good care there. It's a little pricey, but I don't have anything else to compare to in the area, so they may be in line with other practices in San Mateo.

Dr. Caraballo is absurdly accommodating and kind. My dog seems to hate the exam room for whatever reason. She is fearful dog to begin with, but this place exacerbates it for sure. Despite taking walks to the office where we stop in only for a treat, she is not a fan. However, Dr. Caraballo is patient and understanding of Cora's anxiety. The first time we came in myself, a vet tech (who was also great) and the vet all sat on the floor trying to give my dog treats so she'd calm down and let the doc check her out. She was NOT having it. The first visit was an hour long, and I went home with nothing more than having her weight checked. Dr. Caraballo and her colleague talked quietly and tried to coax her and ended up sending us home for Cora's sake. We tried again today after pre-medicating her before the visit. She was better, but still really scared. Solution? Take her into the back alley so she is out of the scary exam room! Once we were outside in the back, Cora wagged her tail while the vet listened to her heart. She even let me lift up her injured paw and check things out a bit. It was an unconventional fix, but it really helped. So thanks to Dr. Caraballo and her staff!

I love this vet practice. I can't say enough. Another vet had told me my cat was a "difficult" patient, but every tech and doctor I've worked with here has been so kind, thoughtful, and patient with both him and me, they've won us both over. Over the past 4 years, we've been through acute care issues, chronic problems (who knew a cat could be allergic to fleas *and* flea repellents), and now old age issues. I feel very fortunate to have found this practice, and recommend it without reservation.

I can't speak to costs of this vet comparatively. What I can speak to is the compassion they've shown us and my pupper as her health hasn't been great. They called daily to check on her, even if they weren't on the clock, and the docs communicated well with each other to ensure coordinated care. They've always been great about scheduling and my pup loves all the folks there. Thanks to the staff and docs!

Been using them for our standard poodle for 7 years now, great vets and staff. Had to come in over the years many times for near emergency things and they always was able to accommodate me quickly. Compassionate and caring vets who listen as well as talk with you a lot about the issue you bring up and the things they find.

While I like the Vet. who was very patient and kind with my dog, their front desk customer service is spotty. My last visit was on 7/25/2017. At the time I asked for an estimate for teeth cleaning. They capture all the necessary contact information, but have never followed up. Till Aug 5, I still haven't heard from them. I can only give them 3.5 stars for that.
