Everyone is very supportive and friendly. Please consider adoption instead of the backyard breeders in town.

This is a terrific shelter to adopt a new rescue pet. My family has adopted 2 amazing dogs from this shelter. A long hair Chihuahua and a Yorkie mix. These dogs have been terrific and they are a vital part of our lives. The shelter staff were wonderful and very helpful. This agency also made a great the adoption process easy and they even provided training. But that was also long before Covid-19 and the precautions. This shelter is definitely a good place for anyone to find that perfect pet.

The care they take of their animals is fine, shelter is clean and the front desk staff are kind. Their animal control officers are a different story all together. Ive seen this older dog twice and he is the sweetest dog. Called twice, once was told that the office was closed and no officers were on duty. So he got left on the street, and now several weeks later, hes back. I called again, was told someone would come get him. Now i just spoke to the ONLY OFFICER ON DUTY and because she has 20 minutes left on her shift she isnt going to risk not being paid overtime for one dog. Her exact words. If you don't want to save animals, don't get into this line of work. I'm disgusted.

We've brought a few animals that we found on the street here. Everyone was very kind and professional. They work hard here and are great with all the fur babies. Thank you for your dedication to the animals in your care.

The most kind hearted, animal loving people work right here in this wonderful facility. If you’re looking for unconditional love and a faithful companion animal, please stop here and let your heart be your guide. The staff will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Courteous workers, clean place. Heartbreaking to see lots of animals there. This is the place, as well as the Salinas shelter, to find our pets. Adopted twice there, we won't go anywhere else.

I adopted Chevy, my second male Corgi mix dog 10 years ago from this shelter. He’s a joy to have around and gets along with Chase his “brother”. A month ago, I adopted Zancho, my male Maine Coon cat from there. It was love at first sight and he follows me around the house and always wants to know what I’m doing. I love all my boys!!! The staff is wonderful and the manager is awesome! She helped me with the adoption process of my latest family addition. Thank you!!!

I tried multiple times to adopt a dog here. They never told me the right paperwork or what my other dogs needed in order to even meet another one. The weekday staff is so rude and unprofessional. Act as if you're wasting their time. They were very quick to try and turn me away multiple times

I adopted a wonderful terrier mix and the shelter staff were very patient with me as I visited every day until I could bring him home. They were very open to coordinating with my schedule in terms if when I could pick him up after he was neutered. Please know that the staff at the County shelter work very hard to provide the best customer service, and the best care to the animals in their shelter. Don’t forget they accept donations of food, toys, blankets, etc.

HORRIBLE!!! Drove from Monterey last Thursday, arriving @ 12:15 (15 minutes after the facility opened for viewing of animals) only to be told that they had closed access for 2 hours for cleaning! I made and appointment yesterday to bring my family to socialize with a prospective adoptable dog today. I took time off work and drove from Monterey and met my family there only to be asked "oh, didn't you see the sign?" referring to a sign posted on the entry door stating that it was not possible to see the dogs today because the farm next door was spraying. Somebody could have called since, NO, IN FACT, I COULD NOT SEE THE SIGN FROM MONTEREY!!!

We were lucky enough to find our dog here a little over two years ago. He was six months old and unfixed. They made us wait a week to pick him up while they neutered him free of charge, which was kind and responsible. Percy's been an incredible dog for us, and we're really glad we found the folks here.

The folks that I encountered working at this facility have been very nice, patient and supportive and spent time with me, helping me with all the wonderful dogs I was interested in. I have to say that the county needs to channel more money into this facility, its sad, nothing fun or creative, no nice yards for the dogs. Monterey County needs to work on a program to expose the dogs to the public more, take better, more creative, frontal view pictures of each dog (because you can barely even tell what a dog looks like on the web). Most of the dogs are beautiful but you would not know it by the pictures. They should have volunteers walk/socialize the dogs, provide some basic training for the dogs, give them a obedience certificate which will in turn make the dogs more desirable. Dont just put these sad dogs in a kennel and hope someone will adopt them. There are plenty of people who would volunteer their time. Also the facility should stay open longer than 5:00 PM and stay open on Sundays to give working people time to view dogs/cats. Who can get there by 5:00 PM? Not many. They should look at what other places are doing to get dogs exposed to the public and adopted. Look at Humane Society Silicon Valley for instance. Even the Salinas Humane Society or the Monterey SPCA has better pictures.

Unprofessional staff that will give your the runaround. Don't believe a word they say about a so called "waiting list". If possible, you should avoid this shelter.
