We first visited the VCA of Sonoma when our local vet referred us to Dr. Chris Carter. Our senior pup had to get most of her teeth removed, something that gave us much anxiety, but Dr. Chris Carter and his team were wonderful throughout the entire process. They were always responsive and willing to answer any and all questions we had leading up to and after the procedure was completed. Dr. Carter himself called and texted us after the procedure to check on our dog, Annabelle, which is something we truly appreciated! Annabelle had a speedy recovery and we are extremely thankful for Dr. Carter and his team for doing such a great job!

A picture tells a thousand words. Picture 1 shows what VCA did to my cat and they charged $525 (see receipt). Picture 2 shows how my cat should look like with a “lion cut.” (My previous vet was located in San Mateo, I’m new to this area). After showing family members what VCA did, they recommended that I post reviews everywhere for others to be beware. On 11/29, I spoke with Jennifer to inform them that the work they did was not acceptable and to let them know how upset I was. Jennifer now states they are not “groomers” though they were fully aware of my expectation when I brought my cat in on 11/24. During the course of our conversation, Jennifer suggested that I bring him back in, however there would be an additional charge, (at minimum $350). Seriously, they expect someone to pay $875 for sedation and grooming! On his 11/24 visit, I informed VCA that I took full responsibility if my cat had complications from sedation since he needed grooming severely. (My cat does not cooperate without sedation.) To give some background, my cat is older and has several health issues. VCA has charged me at minimum $3500 for various tests, treatment plans and prescribed medications since moving to the area. There is no improvement to his health and I can’t continue to have VCA swindle me. I just want my cat to live the rest of his days in comfort which includes being groomed properly.

If you care for your pet, do NOT, I repeat do NOT go to this place, Drs' are not very good, also very rude front desk people. I called because my cat has blood in her urine and the front desk person Emily is her name literally told me to go someplace else, did not even offer to help put on the "list" for waiting. Obviously the hospital and Emily are not very compassionate, couldnt care less if your pet is suffering or sick. I have gone to them, and never have I been treated like this. Anything related to VCA has become nothing but a money thing, no compassion. Do not go to any VCA facility as they are all the same now. Rude and Crude. I will never go there again, and I ask again, if you care for your pet do NOT go here!!!!

I just called the 24/7 line because I was totally freaked out - I thought I was going to lose my fur baby…but the lady working on the phones at the time (I wish my name memory didn’t fail me so horribly) calmed me down, gave me thorough yet soothing advice, and provided me numbers for just-in-case situations, since the doctor wasn’t working this particular night. It was straight mom love.

I they saved my cats life. There are no words to express the gratitude and thankfulness of what they did. They helped get a grant to help pay the costs. I wpuld recommend and urge people to take your pets there. My cat and her kittens are ali e today because of them. I can never say enough. Thankyou

***NOT opened 24HRS*** My partner and I both called (at the same time) prior to my mother-in-laws arrival at the hospital and the automated hold line said that we both were caller number one. Although this hospital advertises (at least at the time of this review) as being opened 24hrs, it is not.

Called them this morning after our dog collided with another dog and cracked his upper gum from the tooth all the way up to his nose. They said they are at moderate intake to take him somewhere else. Also that it’s not life threatening. Which I get it’s not. He just has a broken face.

I am literally sitting in the parking lot waiting for my dog; who just had her first grand maul seizure and VCA has been so great tonight that I’m already posting this review. Jacqueline, the vet tech was able to calm me down (as I was pretty frantic when we arrived)and took a very comprehensive history. Dr. Olson explained everything that he could about seizures and ruled out many other things. He answered each of my questions with patience. Not only are the staff at VCA highly competent, but they have a great bedside manner; and when you’re dealing with pet patients, it is important that your bedside manner relates to both to the pet and the owner. Thank you all for taking care of of P today. ????

In early June we had to take our senior kitty in twice for what appeared to be seizures. Dr. Miller and Dr. Slater both attended to our kitty on separate visits. Both of them were so kind and attentive. I know that they were busy because the VCA hospitals always are, but they never rushed me when speaking with me over the phone and talking me through all of the options to treat our kitty. They answered all of my questions respectfully and thoroughly, and without any judgment. My partner and I still talk about how thoughtful both doctors were and how we could feel their care for our sweet guy. They were also mindful of our kitty’s elderly age and our finances when recommending treatment - but they always made sure that we knew all of the options and didn’t try to sway us in any direction. When Dr. Slater called us a couple days later to review some test results she was so kind in asking after our kitty. Honestly you both were kinder to us and to him than our family vet had been in the last few years. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Dr. Miller, Dr. Slater, and the whole VCA team!

Wonderful, kind staff all around. Shout out to the amazing Dr. Miller!! ???? This is not my normal vet, but the Emergency Services has seen both of my cats this year, and Dr. Miller & her awesome staff helped then both through their illnesses / injuries and my experience far exceeded my anxious expectations. I'm so thankful for the staff here. Thank you all very much for taking care of Randy & Nora!

I would like to give a shout-out to all the staff here. I had to take my elderly dog in at 2:30am. I thought i was going to have to euthanize him. I was visiting Forestville, called ahead, & they took me. I couldn't go in with him,BUT, they said if he had to be euthanized, they would let me be with him❤ Dr.Wingate was VERY nice & explained to me, on the phone, that she assessed him to be healthy & that he might have Senior Canine Cognitive Disorder (Alzheimers for dogs) & that traveling was stressing him out! She sent me home w/ some pain- killers and told me I can give him Melatonin. Whole bill was$135. She was right. We're home now, & have him Melatonin for the car ride home, & he's doing great!!!???? Thank you ALL!!!????

Consultation was pointless. Waste of 200 dollars, just to send me to another location for another consultation after all the information was sent to them before. My dog was inside for less than 20 min just to find out they can’t even do the type of surgery. Cant even send me an email of recommendations of other surgeons to do the surgery. Not sure what I even paid for at this point. Don’t waste your time at this place

I know this place gets a bad rap sometimes for charging a lot for their services. Our old dog was at the end of her rope and she needed to be put down, she couldn't eat or drink and didn't have the strength to get up. We were hoping to wait until the regular vet was back from the long weekend but felt we needed to end her suffering. So I called to find out what they'd charge and it was in line with what our regular vet charges. We brought her in and to my surprise, the staff was super professional and very compassionate. Way more than our regular vet. They made what is always a tough time bearable. No upcharges, no surprises. Thanks to all the staff!

I called before coming to this location to let VCA staff know what was going on with my pet. We were told in his condition, this is considered an emergency and it’s best to get him in ASAP. Arriving at VCA emergency in Rohnert Park, we got checked in and were told that we were 3rd in line and he would be seen once the two patients ahead of us were done. After an hour, we noticed about 4 different cars pulling up and been seen immediately as their pet didn’t look like it was in as much pain as ours. By all means, we understand a life threatening situation needing attention but seriously? We asked one of the staff members for a status update on our position in line and she said it was 2-3 hours! How did we go from we’d be seen immediately to ONE hour then to 3? Are you kidding? All of this is happening meanwhile our dog is whimpering in pain in the car with us! The staff member who gave us the status update was extremely unpleasant. She was rude and not sympathetic. Same goes for another staff member holding a clipboard helping another patient that jumped in front of us. We were given dirty looks and felt mistreated due to our frustration that was not properly accommodated yet alone, ACKNOWLEDGED!! If my wife and I could give this place negative stars, that’s what it would get. Don’t waste your time people because their quality, communication and customer satisfaction skills absolutely suck and our dog was left untreated.

We had to bring our beloved dog here for a midnight emergency, and the staff were more than thorough, caring, and so kind to us and our sweet doggo! Got our doggo in/out in just a couple of hours, and did a thorough exam, blood panel, and sent us home with medication and a clear plan. Highly recommend!

After my recent experience with Dr Schaffner I will not be going back. I brought my cat in for heavy and open mouth breathing. I waited in the parking lot for about 2hrs to be told that he had less than 24hrs to live. He was just at home roaming the yard and sitting on my lap, etc. They did an X-ray and said he had fluid in his chest and either she can take it out and write a quote but we’re looking at about $2000-$3000 for the full work up or just put him down. She recommended just putting him down because that’s what she would do if that was her cat. I know my cat and I knew in my heart that those couldn’t have been the only options. I sat outside debating what to do and just wanted to bring him home and get another opinion. Spending thousands of dollars or just putting him down was not an option. I called into the office and spoke to the doctor again and told her I wanted to bring him home and she said she didn’t want to do that. She can just put him down now or write a quote up. I asked for the quote and it just wasn’t what I wanted to put him through as she wanted to hospitalize him. So I called back asking for my cat once again and she said she didn’t feel comfortable with that and did i think about the quote? At this point I regretted bringing my cat there it seemed like it was all about the money. They can could only help my cat if I paid the high and outrageous prices or put him down. I felt like I had to beg to get my cat back as it took 20-30 mins. I honestly felt that the doctor had already put him down without my consent. However, she finally released him but only if I put him down that day in the next couple of hours or the next day. I lied and said yes I’ll have a vet come out and do it as it was the only way to get my cat back. My cat was just at home that morning in the yard, jumping on the chair and doing his normal routine except for breathing heavy. That is why it didn’t seem right to throw in the towel on him. I finally received my cat by a lady on the side door that didn’t say one word to me and. handed me my cat and a paper. She wouldn’t look at me and just walked away and shut the door. I felt awful that I brought my cat there to be around people that weren’t looking out for him. I brought him home in hopes he would make it through the night as she told me he had less than 24hrs. He made it and I called my vet and they made time and rushed him in. Within 5mins they took out the fluid and he was breathing much better. They watched him for a couple of hours and released him to go gone home a with meds the same day and $360 later. He has now been home for 4 days and he is back to his normal self. No thanks to Dr. Schaffner as we would have lost him. I ask that you please follow your gut and if it doesn’t feel right get another opinion. We take our fur children to these places and trust that they will treat them like their own and have their best interests at heart. Unfortunately I didn’t feel that was true of Dr Schaffner. I hope my experience can help others as I would hate to have any other animal’s possibly be authorized due to the lack care and quality.

So sad to have to bring our dog in to be euthanized. But the staff was very compassionate and allowed me all the time I needed to thank our boy for his loyalty and companionship.

We took a very sick dogto VCA. They were so compassionate and patient. They were professional and explained all our options. We thought we would have to put our dog down, but the vet gave us options and all the time we needed.to decide. Thank you so very much VCA staff❣❣❣

My dog had a very serious cluster of seizures. I was happy to know that VCA has neurological specialists. The care has been exceptional with great customer service.

Twice in 2020 I've brought my little pup in for emergencies and the team here does a great job in healing him fast, all under the terrible circumstances of the pandemic. They are really so busy and if you have to wait a bit, that is to be expected. They're working hard and as quickly as they can.

This hospital is absolutely amazing! The staff was so compassionate and understanding. The Dr. was very thorough and explained everything in detail and took amazing care of my young cat. I would highly recommend them for a medical emergency for your fury family member.

On a sunday we called for our cat emergency and we were told there would be no wait. We got there in 10 minutes and since we're new we filled out paperwork. Then we waited for 2 hours when 10+ animals went in and out while vets came out to check on them while no one came out to see ours. We called multiple times asking why we were not being seen. She lied about how many animals they were seeing and lied about our original wait. Told us that it could be hours but we are next in line. So we left since they wouldn't even look at our after 2 hour wait.

Can't say what the service is like. I never made it past the front door. They have a QR code to check your animals in. I checked my cat in at 5:30pm at 7:00pm they called me telling me my cat was next. Someone was suppose to come out to pick up my cat. An hour later no one came out. When I called they said they had other more critical patients and it would be another 30 to 45 mins. When I said I had waited since 5:30 they said I was lucky the wait is usually 6 to 8 hours. NO WAY! I LEFT!!! I KNOW MY CAT'S ISSUE MIGHT HAVE NOT BEEN AN EMERGENCY BUT SHE IS STILL NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE IN A LOVING AND PROFESIONAL MATTER. Sadly we didn't find it here. I will take her some place else.

Excellent service, friendly and comforting staff. If this place was not here my cat would have died on the way to Santa Rosa. Took my cat in right away to be evaluated and started on fluids. The vet explained what was going on with her, what they could do and how much it cost. Walked me though what would happen when she was put to sleep and after. They let me sit with her for as long as I needed before putting her to sleep.

When you are going to rant about your clientele for missing a phone call to another coworker, you may want to hang up the phone first instead of leaving a rude, unprofessional voicemail on the client’s phone. Sorry I missed your call, but I …

Called at 6:40 to let them know I arrived to pick up my dog. Was told to wait outside and he would be right out. Waited for 15 minutes in the freezing cold and then called again. Was told he would be right out and waited another 10 minutes. I hope the surgery they performed on my dog was better than the pickup routine.

Had a horrible experience! Thought we would be treated better as we are vca care club members at our local vca in larkfield, but I guess not. Very negligent and rude, manager was not there, didn’t fully explain the procedures and charges. Performed a parvovirus test without my consent. Never will go back.
