Dr. Schmitt has always been a pleasure to work with and have provide services for my little pup! He is pleasant, informative and patient which is very important to me as I can often have many questions. Most importantly, he tolerates the anxiety of my little pup as she can be a handful.

Absolutely will never ever go back to this vet, nor will we recommend them to anyone. The first time we did a drop off & understood that our dog would be seen in between appointments. We understood that it could be an all day thing, which it was. We SCHEDULED another appointment for a lite sedation to have a fox tail removed. Not only did they drop the ball on us that we HAD to have labs done, for $119 for a LITE SEDATION PROCEDURE. We were told that she was a scheduled patient, and would not be there as long as she was the last visit. A few hours at most. Dropped her off at 8 am… called at 2:30 to see if she was ready… was told she was not seen yet. They said it should be another hour & that they were getting to her now. No phone call that they were running late. Nothing heard. 4:45pm comes around, I go to pick her up, at the time they told me was when they have their patients picked up and she has still not be seen and still has a fox tail in her ear. They said that she was about to be seen… 8 hours later. No thank you! I told them that I’ll pick her up now, I’m not waiting another hour for her to have it taken out. It’s already been 8! I had a cup of water for her when we got out to the car, drank is completely dry. I drive 15 minutes to get home, she runs to the water bowl and drinks that one completely dry. We were charged an additional $25 for “nursing care, daily” fee, to do what? Dehydrate our dog for 8 hours in a kennel. Awesome. This place is a money hungry joke.

The vet here is great. Staff is excellent. The puppy care is the best we ever had in several cities. This is not a discount vet and it shows.

Just got off the phone with these guys and because I’m not a current customer they sent me away. Imagine being so full of yourself you get to pick and choose which animals you want to help. The way this way the lady acted during the phone call was very unprofessional and offered very little help.

Dr. Schmitt is the best! He has taken excellent care of our dogs over the years! His office is outstanding at getting us in for more urgent appointments. His office staff are always so friendly, compassionate and return calls promptly. I wouldn't trust any Vet in town more than I do Dr. Schmitt with the care of our beloved dogs!

Best veterinary services in south Reno. Wonderful business model with professional and friendly staff. Dr. Matt goes above and beyond for his clients and their pets. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Highly recommend if you are looking for a vet for your pet!!!

Matt Schmitt is the best veterinary physician we've encountered in Reno. On our first visit, over 10 years ago, it was obvious how much he cared about his patients. He always takes the time to learn about each of our dogs and to make sure we understood the details of any problem and what steps he's taking. His is a personal practice and he makes sure your pets are treated well and you are happy. Best vet in Reno!!

Dr. Schmitt and staff took my little dog without an appointment.I was awestruck about that but, Dr. Schmitt was very thorough and discovered in ten minutes what nobody else has done in six years. Fixed it and sent us on our way. They even trimmed his nails! I mean cmon. Expensive but, not anymore than anyone else, and my little buddy is worth it.????

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! My dog became very ill, I called my normal vet and they couldn’t see him for over a week. I called south Reno vet and they had me bring him in immediately. They were able to run tests and perform the blood work in house. Based on the test results we needed to get an ultrasound, Dr Schmitt contacted the ultrasound tech at 7pm and got him schedule the next morning (Fri). Dr Schmitt called me after hours on Fri evening to relay the results and his recommendations based on the ultrasound results. We ultimately had to take my pup to an internal medicine vet in Roseville to determine the cause of the illness. Dr Schmitt has worked closely with the specialist to perform tests and prescribe meds so that I didn’t have to continue to drive to Roseville on a weekly basis. South Reno vet has gone out of their way to ensure we were taken care of. You can tell that Dr Schmitt truly cares for his animals and their owners. I have never felt rushed or talked down to as I have experienced with other vets. Dr Schmitt is now my full time vet and I will continue to see him in the future based on the amazing experience we had. Thank you for everything!!!

Nothing but professionalism, honesty and compassion. These guys have taken care of my lab for many years until I had to put him down, due to his old age and cancer. The staff was amazing throughout the entire process. Highly recommend!!

These guys are great. I came in from out of town, right before a holiday with no notice. They took care of my dog and went above and beyond helping me get through paperwork for international travel with my dog. Friendly staff, nice office and they care about your pet. Great experience.

We adopted two new cats and one of them came down with a serious ear issue that needed attention immediately. I called our vet of some 15+ years and they would not squeeze us in, put us off for days, days our cat did not have. Dr. Schmitt's receptionist immediately recognized the urgency, told me she would ask the Dr. if she could double book him. She was very kind and professional, she told me we may have to wait, but they would get us in. Our cat needed a minor surgery, Dr. Schmitt did it that evening. Our cat is recovering very well. Everyone in the office was very kind, compassionate and truly interested in the well being of our cat. We have a new vet! So grateful for the kindness and consideration from the entire team at South Reno Veterinary Hospital. Thank you!

ATTENTION: This veterinarian hospital is absolutely horrible. They had little to no care whatsoever for my dog. They charged us thousands of dollars for blood work which the doctor had absolutely no idea what the blood work was for and could not explain anything to us. My dog needed surgery and the staff and the doc refused to send over X-rays to the surgeon. They said " you didn't request them early enough" which we had requested them the day before we came to the surgeon. They neglected my animal and charged us thousands of dollars for the neglect. The worst vet hospital I have ever in my life experience. I beg you not to go to his horrible place. They will neglect or maybe even kill your animal. Please please don't go here.

Great friendly helpful staff. "Jack" does not care for visiting but I always feel like he's in good hands.

This veterinarian office takes assistance from a nonprofit to help people who cannot afford the care for their animals . I was one of these people, I inherited a Rottweiler from my parents who passed and she is my complete world. She has a tumor that is infected unfortunately I cannot pay to have surgery on her and she is 15 years old. The doctor was very kind and I needed to get medication for her for an infection and I told him my aunt will give me $50 to help me with that. He said its more then $50 but he gave me her Meds at $50. I would recommend this vet he seems to have a deeper heart then deeper pockets .

The staff was super polite, the price wasn't awful, my dog is fixed. I'll bet all of these negative comments are coming from a couple short tempered soccer moms. Probably in a bad mood after their McDonald's hash browns were served cold.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! I came in with my 3 lb puppy. I had to go into the cat side because the dog side was locked. I told the receptionist I was very allergic to cats so she gave me permission to go to the dog side. No one was in the waiting area but me. I started filling out my first time paperwork. All of the sudden a LARGE dog came from the exam room coming towards myself & puppy. The owner and the receptionist was trying to stop the Large dog but could not stop him. I yelled "GET YOUR DOG" I dropped the clip board & pen and grabbed my puppy. I put my leg up to protect my dog. Finally they got the dog. The receptionist told me to go inside a room. I told her I'm leaving. As I was gathering my things purse puppy Etc... The LARGE dog came at us again. I got up and went to the door to run out and the door was locked. I was locked in. I had to go to the cat side to go out. I feel all dogs should be on a leash for safety. You shouldn't have to go through what I went through. I was afraid for myself & my puppy. No wonder why no one was in there. Unprofessional. I went straight to: Mt Rose Animal Hospital. I was treated well and made an appointment for Friday. Two receptionist and people waiting. I felt very safe and I was Happy....so was my puppy. They never even called me to see if I wanted another appointment or to say they were sorry. STAY AWAY!!!!!! UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!
