The first time I took my dog in, I had him look at a large skin tag on her side. Please note that he did not take the time to introduce himself properly to the dog when he entered the room. He walked into the room and only spoke to me. He asked me if the skin tag seemed to bother her and I told him no and that she had it growing on her side for many years...not once did she show signs of it being painful. He went to grab the skin tag while my dog wasn't looking. Naturally it startled her because it caught her off guard. My dog showed her teeth which is something she has NEVER done to stranger let alone a vet. He had his assistant PUT A MUZZLE ON MY DOG. I understand that it was for his own safety but if he would have walked in and introduced himself properly to the dog then that would have never happened. A human wouldn't be happy if a stranger just grabbed you while you weren't looking... The last time I took her in was recently. Owners are not allowed to go in during the appointment and must stay outside. After the first incident, I can say that I am not comfortable at all leaving my dog alone with him. Its also ridiculous that pet owners can't go inside but I saw his son (or whoever he was) leave the office without a mask and enter another business MASKLESS. What is the whole point of not allowing pet owners in with their pets?

I wasn't able to see the vet because my emergency took place after he had left but I can tell you this the people that work in the office were very helpful with my situation completely understanding and very informative and I booked an appointment on Monday to see the vet due to the way I was treated by his staff.

I took my kitten in to have a general checkup a few months back, and because I had some concerns that maybe she had an issue with her urinary tract. I understand times are tough during Covid, I also understand that most vets are totally overrun and overwhelmed. But over the phone I was very explicit about my concerns and very specific about her age. They got me in promptly- which was great. I waited in the car. In less than 10 minutes the gal brought her back, informed me she was too young for an examination and charged me $80. EIGHTY DOLLARS. They knew how old she was over the phone. Veterinary practice is not easy, I feel for vets being harshly judged for not directly figuring out whats wrong with a critter, but this was one hell of a sheisty experience. I'd go back if I was desperate but I'll be hunting for a different provider.

I wish I was able to meet the Dr being new to his office but I understand- they are following every protocol to keep us and our pets safe.

Quick and friendly! I've been evacuated from the CZU Lightning Fire, so I'm staying with my grandma in Reno. Northwest was able to get my puppy scheduled for his first round of puppy shots within the week! I'm very pleased with the friendly service of the front desk personnel. A+ from me.

The vet and staff were literally amazing. My poor old is dying. They were caring and informative and gave me and my sweet old dog the best care possible. I highly recommend this business for animal care. I won’t go anywhere else.

While the receptionist was really sweet, the doctor was rough with our pup and short with us. Go to Mountainview if you want a wonderful experience all around.

Very proficient staff. The veterinarian is practical, explains the options for treatment. He's taken care of our pets on short notice so we could avoid the wait at emergency. Prices are quite reasonable too.

Our pug is very sick and not breathing well. Becca and Dr. Riar got him in right away and were very thorough in the investigation of Rudy's ailments. They were very nice to us and our Rudy Roo. Dr. Riar went over all the bloodwork and xrays with us. He was honest about Rudy's prognosis. I feel he gave Rudy a good treatment. We give him and his office 5 stars. We will be seeing him as our new vet. Thank you for all your good work! Jennifer and Jason.

I was able to get a same day apt for my dog. However I found that the staff did not explain the plan of care for my dog well. When I expressed concerns they were waved off. When the Vet was giving my dog his vaccines he didn't explain what he was doing prior and nearly stuck me with the vaccine. I will not be going back.

This Vet is incredible!!! My dog consumed mouse poison while I was at a friend's house with him. We rushed Murphy to Northwest Veterinary. The doctor did the medical procedures, then gave us a prescription. My husband left to have it filled, but came back & said it was $4,000. So this doctor got on the phone & spent a lot of time finding a place that had it for a cheaper price. He found a hospital that carried it for $200. THEN, he sent his assistant, at no cost to us, to drive out to that hospital & pick it up for us. This is an A+ veterinary hospital!!!!

We came to Northwest Vet Hospital in about 2012 while getting a second opinion and thank goodness we did - he saved our beloved dog's life (several times at this point). Since this first experience, he has treated all three of our dogs for many issues. His prices are beyond reasonable and he works his tail off (pretty sure he works 6-6 M-Sat). One of my favorite things about Riar is, if an issue is beyond the scope of his expertise he has a great network of experts to refer you to. Also, he is very picky about who he hires and his team is very, very kind. Overall good team with good prices. This man CARES about his pet patients and remembers each one (even from Banfiield, and he cared about them then too).

My Kitty Zoe was having issues. Determined that she may have allergies. Got her a shot and some meds to help keep her calm. She is a happier Kitty. Thank you.

Totally Negative. This Dr. really is a reject from BANFIELD (petsmart) Completely mis-diagnosed my now departed dog causing an emergency clinic visit the very next day! If you value your pets life...Run away and fast! There are far better Vets in Reno Like Klaitch!

I went to Northwest Veterinary Hospital after a very disappointing experience at another Reno vet office. I have been really happy with my experience with Dr. Riar so far. He immediately knew what was wrong with my dog and even showed me a photo in a textbook so that I would understand. He is always gentle and thorough when examining my dog, and he follows through to make sure the problem is fixed. Rates are very affordable and he even gave a free follow-up visit to make sure my dog's wound was healing properly. They also have a vaccination clinic on Saturdays so you don't have to pay for the full exam. I can always get right in when I need to and the techs and front office staff are friendly. Dr. Riar remembers me and my dog after only going there for a few months and I feel like he is sensitive to making sure we are happy customers.
