Barkingham Pet Hotel California Palm Desert, California

I've boarded here a number of times. Usually a good experience. Our last stay not so much. We have two chihuahuas. One is sensitive and needs careful handling as he can be "nippy". Apparently he was too much for the trained staff (they also have professional dog trainers on the premises) to handle. All 11 pounds of him. When we got him home our visiting 9 year old niece, which he had never met, had him on her lap in a matter of 10 minutes. And it was very hectic here as there were 3 adults also visiting that our dog had never met. With a minimum of effort my chihuahua was polite and quiet. Because the staff at Barkingham doesn't have the skills to handle a cranky 11 pound dog, they have banned us from returning for boarding again. And to top it off, both chihuahuas came home with bad cases of diarrhea which lasted several days. So, for many reasons, we will not be using Barkingham again. You can see the culprit below.

I was going to be visiting the area and looking for my 1 yr old puppy to have some socialization while we did some activities during the day. I was very disappointed that I didn't get the opportunity to let my dog visit here as she was basically unwelcome unless I wanted her to stay in a kennel by herself. For a company specializing in taking care of dogs and claiming on their website "Our staff is always going through continuous education on animal behavior", they should know that a breed does not indicate a specific behavior. I was prepared to take her prior for a temperament test but to automatically "cage" her for being a pit breed is ridiculous.

New to the Palm Springs area and needed a safe, fun place for doggie day care. Finding Barkingham Palace was the best part of moving here. My dog attends three days a week and loves it. The front desk Staff is friendly and so accommodating. I love Ashley and Sabrina.

Simply put the Ritz for dogs. Gotta love it! The best part is the staff who are awesome!

Beware pet owners! Unclean conditions, lack of professionalism. I would never trust them with my dog again.

I truly love this place. I have two very different dogs- a very small toy breed and an extremely big dog. They both always greet me with such enthusiasm when I pick they up. They act as if they went to camp. The staff are friendly and caring. So thankful to have them in the desert.

My pups always look AMAZING when they come out.

An awesome place gor pampered pets

We have been clients of Barkingham since 2013 (early days) and do not know what we'd do without it! Our first boy, Jackson, had a lot of anxiety and trust issues; but, thrived at Barkingham due to their incredibly well-trained and loving staff. He was able to trust other humans and make a group of friends. Our newest rescue, Winston, fell in love with Barkingham as a pup and hasn't looked back. He goes absolutely bananas when the words "Barkingham" or "puppy play" or "puppy sleep over" are uttered -- dancing about and verbalizing his excitement. My husband and I recommend Barkingham to everyone with a dog.

In these difficult times it has been a trial to find a caring adoption agency. These folks are all one could possibly want....professional and caring being the most important qualities. Brilliant recommendations for advice and assistance beyond their immediate superlative care. Kona is very happy but will surely return for a visit to his loving handlers. Thank you.

Easy in and out with drop offs. Our dog seems to like it and comes home very tired.

They really don't pay close attention to this animals. Our per was there twice and both times she got no water.

Miles loves Barkingham. The team at Barkingham are so good with Miles. I know he is safe when he is there - and well cared for, and, he comes home tired from playing all day!

Jasmine did an amazing job grooming my very large (100lbs) Rottweiler/Lab mix. My boy is super friendly to both dogs and humans but was a bit nervous. Jasmine and the staff at the front desk treated him so well and I am so pleased with the service and level of personalism. He is so clean and was a very happy dog & he loved Jasmin. This is a lovely establishment and every employee you come by is very friendly. I highly recommend Barkingham Palace.

Seems like a nice place when you walk in. However, there’s not a whole lot of love going on. Plan on having vet expenses after your pet’s stay. My dog was very ill with kennel cough even though he was vaccinated.

They took great care of my dog, had a camera in his room but it was turned wrong. Good staff helped us out every time we called!

Very modern. Friendly, pet loving staff. Swimming area for the dogs. Our dog had a great day there.
