Tropical Haven Modesto, California

I've been coming to tropical haven for years, and I'm used to the staff pretty much either ignoring me or treating me like a nuisance. But today, somebody actually asked if I needed any help. I stopped and looked at them like... "who me?". It was definitely a nice change. But this place has had great products at reasonable prices for a long time. My favorite pet store.

Nice healthy fish and good prices

Look, this is no petsmart or petco, there are no pretty pictures or bright lights everywhere. This is a legitimate petstore that puts quality and price above all else. The fishes were priced way lower than you can find online and there were many different fish selections that were noticeably healthy and bright in color. The employees are also helpful and polite, overall an exceptional experience and highly recommend.

Very happy with my purchase of small marble/koi angelfish. The owner has helped our family for ten years or so and his staff is always so helpful. Best tropical fish store! Need dog food? They have bulk at great prices too. Photo of the mother of the offspring.

Great selection of fish species and supplies loved it

Been coming here for the past couple years. And here’s my honest review. The Staff is nice if your simply just nice and understanding. Now, they are one of the best aquarium shops in my area. It is a little dirty in the inside but it is a lot to keep up for a small crew. I asked one of the staff where the freshwater crabs were, I gave him the time he needed and he showed me. He didn’t really talk, I think he just needed a little more confidence, which I totally understand. They deal with rude guests all the time, so give them a break. And to be honest, I would love to volunteer and help them with aquarium keeping.

This store has one thing going for it… the prices. That’s about it. I always feel like the roof is going to cave in, literally. Everything is so dirty. Looks like a couple decades since someone cleaned the front windows and doors. Every direction you turn is a safety hazard. Hoses and buckets laying in walking paths. The customer service and lack of knowledge of staff is poor which really explains the appearance of their tanks. I feel bad for the fish. Looks like the center row they have finally done some tank maintenance but I wouldn’t buy a single fish from this place for fear of them being sick and contaminating my tank. Sucks because other than Pet Co no other store in Modesto sells Marine Life. I’ll drive to Sac first.

I went there yesterday to get fish and the roof panels where falling the wall in one part of the store looked rotten. Also a giant dead cockroach and a spider. The guy there didn't know what he was talking about and kept having to ask his employee questions about the fish because he didn't know. The prices were expensive yet the place was nasty. Don't come here

The people here don't want to help... You ask for help and they just act like they don't wanna help. Even going so far as telling me to check on Amazon.... Fine. I'll take my business elsewhere, I swear they don't like us cause our skins not white, or that's how they make us feel. I would steer clear.

A great place to buy dogfood.

I called to ask a business question and the lady who answered was very short with me and cut me off mid sentence as I was saying "I hope you have a good day." How hard is it just to be polite? I get annoyed with telemarketers as well, especially if they are rude; however, I am courteous to those who are courteous with me. By the way, if you own a business, shouldn't wanting to please the caller and potential customer to be a priority. I was asking about making a phone appointment, and the response I was given, "My boss is not into that." How does this person know? How can any business not want to be known and respected as well as promoted within a community. Just be nice.

I shop here all the time for my saltwater fish and equipment, they have great customer service and good prices.

they have a big room full of fish tanks. there’s tons of different exotic fish. but every tank was filthy. the store ceiling is falling apart. i feel bad for the fish being kept there. i also witnessed a customer receiving rude service by a male employee with black long hair. i had to check it out at least once but don’t think i will come back.

Had been using Tropical Haven for years, but I moved out of the area. But after trying many other pet stores for my aquarium needs, I decided to go back to Tropical Haven. And what a relief! They still have knowledgeable staff, TONS of fish and excellent prices. It's about an hour's drive for now, but it's well worth the drive! Great store!
