Dr Rodriguez is awesome! I couldn't ask for a better vet.

Dr Rodriguez has been my vet for 24 years he is very knowledgeable and compassionate, I trust everything he has suggested for my dogs in the past and present. I know I couldn’t ever ask for a better veterinarian also the staff is always very professional and caring.

Dr. Rodriguez is great and the staff is friendly. They are good to my pets and very gentle and caring. No pressure for expensive treatments and tests, just honest advice. The exam cost is high but not outrageous for the area. I am usually able to get an appointment next day.

BEST VET EVER!!!! He actually cares about the well being of your pet and is very genuine in his approach. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was our very first experience at a vet. We were a little nervous but I remembered how friendly the person on the phone was. We were greeted right away upon entering and everyone else there was so nice. I was surprised but super happy that we could get in so soon to take care of our kitten seeing as it is our first time as pet owners. I would definitely recommend this vet to anyone that asks.

Dr. Rodriguez is very kind and considerate. My kitten had a femur fracture from a bad fall off my kid's bed. I was scheduled to move out state the following week. I was beyond stressed because I do not have pet insurance and the emergency visit at another hospital cost me $500. I was in search of an orthopedic surgeon to perform an FHO procedure to repair her fracture in a short time span and on a budget. Dr. Rodriguez was the 20th veterinarian I called asking to work with me on a budget for the procedure. He was the only vet I called that one, got back to me the same day (within an hour), and two, agreed to do the procedure the following morning for the price I could afford. I am so thankful he took the time to look at her pre-op x-rays and tell me his opinion over the phone. He did an exam before he took her back for the procedure and thoroughly explained to me the procedure and what to expect during recovery. I felt very comfortable with his explanation and his opinion. Following Pearl's surgery, I received two calls, one from him and another from his front desk staff who were checking in on Pearl. They also called the following day. They clearly care for their clients and want to ensure all is going well after a procedure. We are now six days post-op and Pearl is walking on all four legs and even playing like normal. I can tell she is still healing, but she does not seem to be in pain. I am so thankful to know we can travel with her and she is feeling good again. I highly recommend Dr. Rodriguez to anyone, for any veterinary needs. He is compassionate, attentive, and cares to ensure his clients understand procedures and what to expect during post-op and recovery.

Very caring physician and staff

My dog was mauled by another dog at a groomer!! I took my dog to this Vet (it was the Vet of the dog who bit my dog), and they were AMAZING. Treated me with respect and genuinely cared for my dog. They were fantastic as well about communicating with the owner of the other dog. I now bring my dog to this vet for our regular visits!!

Listen up people. If you found this place, no need looking farther. Dr Rodriguez is the best. He took one look at my little girl's lump, he knew exactly what it was right away. He said that was hernia. I knew he was right, because I've done research. I had him operate on my little girl and I got to take her home on the same day. I started seeing signs of recovery within a couple of days. Dr Rodriguez is worth driving or flying for. My little girl is back to normal. Thank you Dr Rodriguez!!! I highly recommend you. You are truly good with what you do. I'll continue having dogs as long as you're still in business.

In the past Dr Rodriguez was a very attentive veterinarian but in my opinion, unfortunately in the past few years, his level of care and professionalism has declined to the point that for our pet's health and well being, I'm transferring our pets to another more caring and well staffed facility as he has failed to keep an updated medical history of our pets...¿Que' lástima????

Dr Rodriguez has been my veterinarian for the past 25 years and I have been through several dogs and cats with him. he has saved each and everyone of their lives. He even remembers My dogs and cats from 23 years ago. He’s a very honest and compassionate man he will always tell me the truth about my dogs health . He’s a very knowledgeable veterinarian I wouldn’t trust anybody else with my dogs. And his staff is always been amazing very very professional.

My family and I just recently moved to this veterinary hospital after being with a different one for 10 years. Our first experience at Portola Plaza Veterinary Hospital was AMAZING! Our dog, Pippy, is getting older and was in desperate need of a dental cleaning. When we first arrived, Mary Ann helped us get seated and began going over the steps for the procedure. She was very transparent about what services were recommended and needed and ones that were not. She was also extremely friendly with our dog and tried to make a connection with her (have never experienced that in the past). Mary Ann said that if we wanted, we could be contacted if there were any extractions to be done. Portola Plaza called us and updated us the whole way through Pippy's procedure so we knew our dog was safe and in good hands. When she was ready to be picked up (at 3:30 just like we were told), we went back to the hospital and were given instructions on how to take care of our dog. They even provided the medicine: it was only $30! In the past, our medicine has costed $500+ even with insurance. We love this place after our first visit and are super glad that we found somewhere we can trust with our pets and our money!

I have been coming to Dr Rodrigues for 13-14 years now. He and all his staff are wonderful. They have always provided exceptional service and are always helpful and caring with all our pets. I have had to visit a few other vets in the area but have always been happier here.

Dr. Rodriguez and staff were great and facility operations were very virus safety oriented. We really appreciate the time taken to thoroughly explain everything and answer questions.

It was our 1st visit and we were very pleased with the care our two cats received. We also appreciated that we had enough time during the appt. that all of our questions were addressed and answered. Thank you.

I felt that the care received for our elder kitty was excellent. The exam was thorough and the price was very reasonable. Everything was explained in detail so I could easily understand what I needed to do. I never thought I'd be able to give a shot to an animal, but Dr. Rodriguez put me at ease.

Dr. Rodriguez and his staff are amazing! We had to put our Lola down the other day. They made this experience easy and comforting. We actually live in San Clemente and our regular vet was not letting humans into their office due to the covid protocol. They wanted us to drop off our dog to be disposed along with 4 others we had called. We then reached out to Portola vet because it was where we first took Lola as a puppy when we lived out there and I’m so glad we did! They were so great in accommodating us so we could be there for Lola’s last moment. Dr. Rodriguez was very compassionate and you can just tell he loves animals. I will definitely be using him in the future as our regular vet for our pets in the future.
