All my daughter wanted for Christmas was a cat. So we decided to get it with spcala. We spoke with Norman regarding Joe. One of the kittens we were interested in. The process took a few days. What I didn't like was, we weren't able to see the animal before the final paperwork. I understand covid and all, but it still would have been nice. If we did, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. The cat was bigger than I expected. We asked for kittens and being that we knew nothing about cats, we wanted something small. We end up getting Joe and his brother Nick. (Keep in mind this is all done without seeing them) we were told they are brothers and they were very close. So we felt bad and didn't want to separate them. After all the paperwork was signed and finalized, we noticed the cats were 1 month apart and they were also different colors. We are still in the process of bonding with the cats. Which has proven to be very difficult, but we are taking it one day at a time.

Made special accommodations despite being closed, friendly people, and saw lots of happy cats, though they have one less now I've been there, and a delightful bundle of fluff she is!

Closed doors, blind adoptions. The adoption process right now is basically a phone call with one of the staff - to get a phone call you will have to fill out and send them your complete application, from there you'll wait 2-4 for days to hear back. They will tell you about your first pick, if it's a particularly newer pet they will essentially have nothing to tell you about behavior or personality as they are also limiting volunteers - from there it's yes or no. If you say yes then you proceed with payment online, then schedule the official pick up. No interaction. If not, they have you start over. Folks who decide to apply here should be aware that they are doing blind adoptions. It is very odd, the staff I spoke with clearly felt uncomfortable with the whole blind adoption process as well, as she had little to no information to share with me about the two pets while SPCALA expected commitment and money up front based off of a picture on their website.. Check your local city and county shelters first.

We adopted a sweet feisty kitten named Elvira, and on Saturday we took her home, she and my 3 year old Spca rescue chihuahua Honey are becoming best buddies! I will forever be a rescue Fur baby Mommy, and I sincerely thank those who work for rescue organizations like Spca for doing such great work, you are special people!! Spca South Bay is new to me,I have usually adopted closer to home, but was pleasantly surprised how easy the process was, two very nice folks brought Elvira out to me, and said a sweet good bye to this funny, smart little girl. Thank you very much, my family is enjoying our newest feisty little angel ????

Went to the location in Hawthorne today. Door says appointments only, I called and asked if I can schedule something. They said they are not even doing appointments for people wanting to adopt. I have to submit an application first. How do I submit an application without meeting the dog I am interested in? Makes no sense to me. This place is still using Covid as an excuse to not do their job of being an adoption center.

Very nice place!! I got two cats from them and they are amazing kitties. Very playful and kind. However, the first cat I got from them came with fleas and worms (and on his medical record they said they dewormed and deflead him). We had to deworm and deflea him the day after we got him. Overall, very nice place. Will adopt from them again Edit: The second kitten they gave us, has worms, fleas, and I think feline leukemia too. It says on his medical record that he is 2 months. Turns out, he is actually 4-5 months(according to the vet) and the center doesn't even know his age, but he is extremely small and skinny. He transferred fleas to my other kitty. This place keeps giving us kittens that are in bad condition, and they don't even care to tell us what he might have. He could've transferred the disease to my other cat, I would've been extremely upset. They're suppose to give us healthy kitties, and something tells me they don't even take care of the cats in there Not adopting from them again. Would not recommend adopting kittens from them.

I went to go see a dog named Amy she was adorable and very cute. She was new to the shelter so she didn't have a bath yet but she did go to the vet and always good. She cost $155. I asked the lady if they had a senior citizen discount like most places do. They did not so I'm not sure what happened to Amy. I thought $155. a little too high because I would have to get her groomed and about 50 to 60 dollars..purchase bed and pick up other items..That would have run into hundreds and at the moment I didn't have it. When I did go in there I waited for a long time cuz there was only one person on the phone. But I did get a chance to see the dog Amy.

Very nice and informative/helpful staff. Adopted a cat and was briefed on its health and life before adoption. Clean facilities and you can tell the animals are well loved and taken care of. I highly recommend adopting from here! Tianna and Norman were super helpful!

Through here, I've found who is possibly the best cat in my life. The staff here is awesome, and they do good work to help you and especially the animals. Norman, if you're reading this! I hope you're having a wonderful day! Thank you! P.S. Here's a photo of King, who now goes by the name Steve Bytheway!
