We have been coming to this hospital for years, and it was wonderful then. Once VCA took over they're customer service is horrible! It seems that they're always too busy to help you. Never coming back!

Called in half a dozen times. Was put on hold and then hung up on. Will take my business elsewhere.

I brought my cat to this location for the first time and was appalled at the entire experience. I called ahead and was told to arrive at 1:30pm to ensure that I could get a walk-in appointment before 2pm. I arrived at 1:20pm to be safe, and got the last walk-in appointment available. For the first hour we had to stand in wait outside in the heat with our pets before even being made aware of whether or not we could be seen. Then, once those of us who got appointments were permitted to wait inside, I waited for 3 and a half hours before being seen. My cat became extremely irritable since she had had to sit in her carrier for so long. When we were finally seen, the vet, Doctor Ta, was rude and unsympathetic to my frustrations, saying I should have seen the “large banner” indicating that there may be a 4 hour wait (a banner that was outside, above their parking lot, which was profoundly unhelpful for someone like me who did not enter their offices near or though their parking lot in the back. Nothing at the front of the building, its entrance or its waiting room indicated this information. And upon leaving, I walked over to discover that the potential wait time was in fact on a banner, along the bottom, in a much smaller script that was barely visible from the parking lot entrance). They took my cat and she was so irritated that she could not be properly examined. She’s a very gentle and well-tempered cat every time I’ve been to any other vet, where wait times were reasonable. They complained that she had “lunged at all of them” which, was frankly an outcome of their own making, and told me she would need to be sedated if she ever came back. Not only did the doctor then outline a treatment plan that included medications for an ailment which was not an accurate part of my cat’s diagnosis (reinforcing their inadequate examination) he walked out on me when I said again that I was put off by their handling of not only my pet but also my time. It was juvenile, and I was disturbed at the entire experience and the complete disdain shown by the doctor and his support staff. Would not recommend and since the treatment itself wasn’t even comprehensive or communicative and kind, I can’t begin to comprehend why the wait for such a place is even necessary or deserved.

I had a terrible experience today! In the last 16 years I have used the LA County discount spay and neuter program at least 7 times, for both dogs and cats. NEVER have I had to pay more than the certificate amount, aside from meds. These people tried to charge me over $1,400.00 for 2 small kittens today!! After I said, absolutely not and that was a ridiculous price, they would not give my cats back until I paid $85.00 for an OFFICE VISIT!!! What a scam! In addition, while I was waiting I heard 3 different people give 3 different customers contradicting information. Terrible people, giving misinformation and not helpful at all. Never ever go there!!!

I’ve been a client at Gateway for years. From way back when it was an itty bitty little building! The receptionists, vet techs and vets all love their jobs and it truly shows. Just recently received some above-average service, particularly from Nicole and Dr McLean. They are lovely people and made me and my cat feel like we were part of the family. Please, if you’re reading this— the wait times can be long but know that it’s because they are treating every animal and client with dignity and care and if it went any faster, that means something would have to be sacrificed. Get there early!!

Nicest people with biggest hearts I could ever meet. Took my kitten in after she has a small injury and they were super attentive. I am unfortunately unemployed right now because of the pandemic and they were able to help. God bless their hearts for everything they do. I will forever be in their debt after what they have done for me and my Pelusa.

This place will over charge you if your not careful. The doctors won't even consider talking to you if they can't change you. This place is like the Keiser of animal hospitals, overcharge and under deliver..

Calling this place is worse than calling the DMW. Wow on hold for over 20 mins each time, really bad customer service. Use to be really good but now its just terrible service, don't know what happened there

I was referred to Gateway about 10 years ago by my neighbor. I had not been here for maybe four years since my Bella passed away, until we had to bring our adopted mixed terrier dog in for vomit and bloody diarrhea. My bad review does not reflect the long wait time which is understandable due to covid, but the poor service (except the lot attendee, he is a very kind person). I was billed over nine hundred and fifty dollars for what resulted to be an upset stomach. The doctor who checked my dog said she would need to run lab test and X-rays to rule out a fracture, cancer and/or infection. After agreeing to all the test, I was told that my dog would be ready for pick up in the afternoon and that I would get notified, which I didn't. I did received a text from the doctor, who said that the test were good and there was no fracture or cancer. I went to pick him up, I waited a bit and when the technician brought him out ..she opened the door to my car put him inside and handed me a bag with medications. The technician never explained what the medications were and how to administer the medication..I was not even told what my dog had!!! I had to ask the technician to go ask the doctor to give a run down of what my dog's diagnosis was and shortly I received a phone call from the doctor. I had to ask about the medications and my dogs condition instead of just letting me know, which I was then told it was just an upset stomach. I truly did feel like they just took my money...the care, interest, compassion that I loved from gateway is gone. I won't be returning to Gateway anymore.

I've been going to gateway animal hospital for about 12 yrs! Since they were a tiny office and then became the huge office they are now. I took my dog in about 2 weeks ago, will say I'm going to put effort in finding a new Veterinarian it was such a joke! It took me 3 hrs and multiple times of asking if my dog was ready to be checked out. I know things are different due to COVID and I was ready for it, but what didn't settle well with me was most of the front desk is new people "where is Blanca?" she was amazing!! Then the Vet that saw my dog was the same Vet she has been seen by for the last 12 yrs. But when it came to him giving me the check up results his tone was awful and when I said no to all he wanted to do and to do only the necessary due to the situation of no work he got very upset and told me I had to signed a form stating I didn't want anything done WTH! Not true at all I needed to keep cost down due to my situation also my dogs condition is NOT acute it is chronic something she has been seen for multiple times and I know how to take care of just needed the med. I was very disappointed and a bit of a let down come to find out VETS work on commission REASON for them pushing treatments and test! it is all about the money and it really was a let down from the place I've known it really sucks that people sometimes only care about the money. The Vet that sold his business to VCA left with fat pockets and now the people that still go here b/c it's all we've known are not getting the same care all just b/c money and the real reason (the animals) they're supposed be there for it doesn't matter anymore. Really sucks! I will deff find another place

came for shots for 2 dogs and these weirdos took over 2 hours.... thats some trash service y’all need to do better considering how pricey this place is i expect much better service. First dog came back 15 min and the 2nd one came back after over an hour after calling and then speaking to a worker who came out. . that was very sus... im not one to complain about $ but this place definitely wasnt worth the money we spent today. not sure if we are going come back ever or look for a better vet.

Waited 3.5 hrs to get back my dog for an ear infection. Tons of people came after me and left before me and i was being upsold for treatment. It was actually added to my bill without it being discussed with me first.

We got our dog a month ago. With in a week of having him he got sick, so we took him here. The vet did not provide us with the results of his tests and I had to take initiative to call for them. This wasn't a huge deal, and he did get decent care. However, we have since brought him in twice to get his follow-up vaccines. Because they don't take appointments we have come early so that he can be seen quickly and both times we have been turned away because there aren't enough vets to see patients. This has happened twice in a 7 day span. It's stressful for the dog and it's a waste of my time.

I had healthy four indoor cats that got sick from this location, two died. They went in for routine checkup and came out all four sick with two dying. The doctor was got aggressive and angry and very defensive when I brought it to his attention. The owner/vet lack of empathy and runs a subpar veterinary service that doesn't wipe down and sanitize the tables. If you love your animals, I would not take them to this place. this happened back in 2015 if anyone else experienced the same thing please reach out to me.

STEER CLEAR!!What does VCA stand for? VETERINARIAN CON-ARTISTS!! We spayed our 5 month old puppy here a while ago. After I dropped off my dog, they called me later telling me that they needed to add blood work and it cost 89 bucks. Literally dropped it on me and had not mentioned anything about blood work when I was at the office still. Every doctor I've spoken to said it is not necessary. I felt suspicious but I was like whatever. Then later in my story you'll see that their policies are designed to make you part ways with your money. They literally don't care about your pet. This morning I decided to give my second dog a rattlesnake vaccine bec we've been taking her on longer and longer hikes into the wilderness. I go to their app and book an appointment. The appointment was booked for a wellness service which is done by a technician. Usually vaccines. I drove there but they refused to do it because they said that they have a company policy to do an exam to the dog before they do that which means I have to pay an extra 65 bucks!! I'm like HELL NO. Why did the system let me book the exam if they had that policy? so they drop it on you while your there and it would be easier for you to break and say ok whatever take the money...Hell no! All I need is a 30 dollar vaccine. I didn't come here to spend more than that! THAT'S A SCAM! I've had it with them and everyone should know what they are getting into here. I'm moving both my dogs somewhere else. I heard the big box stores "where the pets go" don't have corrupt company policies like this that are designed to steal your money like that! SO I'm taking them there. I fell for the "exam" with my first dog and I won't fall for it again. For my 1st dog, the exam consisted of them putting a stethoscope on him and saying he is good. Literally took 15 seconds. I'm like I know he is good. I take care of him better than I take care of myself! Are you gona check the benign lump on his chest? his ears for a yeast infection? His paws? his belly? Just sell me the lie better! They didn't. They started petting him and looking at him as if they are looking for something so they look like they are doing something, then they left and said thank you! They STOLE my 65 bucks for a BS physical exam!! And now they keep doing it when people are struggling in the middle of a pandemic! What appalling level of greed are you at? Your company policies SUCK and I will not be a victim of your con-artistry again!

You can’t be this expensive and this slow it doesn’t work that way.

Bad story at first, but they redeemed themselves w/ extremely good prices compared to almost all other vets I've been to, as well as going out of their way to accommodate me.... My dog got a laceration on his toe that required stitches. I took him in at 8am, only to be turned away 2 hours later bc they didn't have time to fix him. After calling about 20 other vets in LA area, being quoted about $1200 by a few of them, & told by the rest that they had no availability, I went back here to just have him looked at so I could get antibiotics & pain meds as well as try to make an appointment to be seen on their next surgery day. I checked in then waited almost 3 hours, only to be told that they got confused bc I was there earlier. I basically got cast aside & forgotten about. I was told to come back the next day (which isn't a surgery day on Saturdays) at 7:30am to make sure I'm at the front of the que, & that they would make him stable & comfortable until I could get him stitched up. Here's where they redeemed themselves... They came to get him relatively fast, & actually made the time to fully repair the wound right then, even tho it's not a surgery day. I've been here w/ 2 different dogs now. One for a really bad split nail, and this dog w/ the laceration. The nail repair cost me about $246 after a $31 discount they gave me for some reason, but even without a discount, that is a great price! The laceration repair cost me $515 for everything. Not once did the doctors try to use scare tactics to push unnecessary treatments, tests, vaccines, or prescription food like I've experienced soooo many times before w/ other vets who prey on worried or unknowledgeable pet owners. To sum things up, the staff is very nice/knowledgeable & their prices are the best I know of in the LA area, but this clinic can be rough in terms of limited hours of operation, long wait times, & no guarantee that they can treat your pet that day depending on the situation. This can be solved by either making an appointment or getting there about 30 min before they open for walk-ins. I'd rather take my chances here than go to another vet and be grossly over-charged!

I did not want to even leave a review but I am so frustrated with this VCA Gateway. I found Gateway years ago after being fed up with a VCA that is walking distance from my house. When VCA took that clinic over it became just a big money grab and I see nothing has changed. The vet there encouraged me to change my flea treatment and they offered me a two for one deal. The one I was buying was not available through them. Of course the new treatment did not work and when I took all the meds back for a refund they told me I owe more because I was returning two boxes! That makes no sense. I LOVED my Gateway vet who was recommended by a friend who used them as well. Since becoming a VCA facility this office has entirely too many patients. The phone hold times are at least 20 minutes for everything if they pick up the phone at all. I called again this a.m. (after trying two days last week and not getting through) to get a Rx transferred elsewhere and was told they would do it right away and call me back with the answer to a question for the vet. They are charging double the price for the meds. They also never call you back. I called again and waited ten minutes for someone to answer and was put on hold until it started to ring again. 16 minutes of rings later the call disconnected. They never called the outside pharmacy. Any visits are at least an hour wait time before you are seen regardless of when you go. My last visit took over two hours to pick up food and get my dogs nails clipped. They have also started up charging for all meds so do yourself a favor and call around before you pay for meds. The most common meds can often be found at Costco for 50% less. They will also recommend services that you probably don’t need to increase your bill. I am so sad to leave our regular vet who saved my dogs life when his lower limbs became paralyzed but I can’t take it anymore. Our regular vet is now not often available and the other vets are the ones recommending expensive unnecessary procedures. My friend who recommended them left a few years ago and now I have to start looking elsewhere too. I’ve put it off as long as I could but the total disregard for my time and the increased bills are too much. I can just no longer trust that they have my pets best interest at heart. They also left my pets ashes thrown on a shelf for over a week like trash without ever contacting me to pick them up. The front desk staff is very friendly when you can get them on the phone but this place is a far cry from what it used to be. VCA has taken over MANY privately owned clinics in the last few years. If you love your animals and value your time and money beware.

Worst vets I’ve ever worked with. The first vet didn’t listen to anything I said about what was wrong with my dog. Charged me $400 for things my dog didn’t need. After I confronted him, he suggested I see the other vet. The other vet was defensive at first but actually examined my dog properly and started to treat him. An extra $500 later, they’re refusing to discount because they refunded a $200 THAT MY DOG DIDNT NEED. Not to mention, the second vet called me to say the treatments weren’t working, quoted me an even higher price, THEN HUNG UP ON ME. This is absolutely atrocious behavior and customer service. However, every single person except for the two vets had wonderful customer service and was super friendly. Especially Courtney. Very nice and friendly and helpful
