not seeing new people so if your new don't waste your time

Amazing service from my first call, to the end. I woke up to find my pibble...not. I called the nearest vet and was so lucky to get Angela at VCA Elk Grove. There's a few questions we all need answer, and even be put on hold (please if you CAN'T be put on hold, say so...)...my babe was already gone, and even then the return to call time was so quick. After a few (necessary, albeit painful **spoiler: these will make it easier later, try to not lash out**) questions, I was allowed to call when I was in the parking lot. The vet techs were so kind. They asked if I wanted to take her blanket home, but it was best to give comfort to those who don't. Shout out to the beauty who passed and sent their condolences. These things all speak volumes to me. 70-80lb pitbull: $250. Service and kindness: priceless.

For the price they charge for a checkup, they are unprofessional in a few aspects. They trimmed a few of my cat's nails by mistake and didn't tell me. Also, the tech forgot to send me my cat's vaccine reaction document through email and it was only after I called about my cat's reaction that he sent the document to me. Also, it took more than a few hours for them to return my call. Until I can physically go in with my cats to see them get their checkup, I don't really want to bring my cats here for the time being because I don't know what they're doing to them. Aside from these negative things I have to say, I did have positive experiences with my conversations with the vets because they gave me some good tips on how to care for my cat. They are friendly and knowledgable.

Contacted the VCA Hospital after hours when we realized our cat had been sprayed by a skunk and was foaming at the mouth. Spoke with the receptionist who stated we needed to bring our cat in and needed to contact the animal poison control on our way by phone to get a case number so they could work with the vet on the proper medication to administer while caring for our cat. I questioned the receptionist in regards to contacting poison control and she became very rude with me. Animal poison control charged us $75 dollars just to get a case number and a call back number for the vet to use. Once we arrived to VCA Hospital we called back like they asked and were told a technician would be out to our car. After 30 minutes waiting, contacted the hospital by phone again and was placed on hold with hold music immediately and no one picked up after 10 minutes. Hung up and called back for a third time and spoke with a different receptionist who actually asked us this time what spot we were parked in and had to explain all over again the reason for our visit. They finally sent a technician out who then told us to take our cat home and clean her and there was nothing they could do for her. I then contacted another 24 hour vet at Vista Veterinary Specialists to ask for a second opinion (first experience with a skunk and had no idea what to do) and she was very detailed and helpful over the phone in advising us how to properly care for our cat. First time experience with this vet and never again will I contact them for any assistance. If I could give them a “0” I would definitely do so. All of this could have been less of a hot mess if we would have received the correct information during the first call that took place. Will be contacting a manager tomorrow and demanding a refund as they did not have one available tonight. When in need of after hours service in the future I will be contacting Vista Veterinary Specialists and driving the extra few miles to get there just by the excellent professional and caring customer service I received on the phone with them.

I think they were very nice but too expensive.

dishonest. couldn't go inside because covid so i waited in my car while my dog was getting a checkup. couldn't see what the vet tech/vet was doing but when he came out i checked his nails when we got home and noticed 4 of them were visibly shorter and one even was a bit bloody because it got trimmed too short. i didn't even ask for a nail trim but it seems it was done on accident because none of the other ones were trimmed, just those 4. i called the receptionist and asked if the vet trimmed his nails and she said no. obviously it wasn't put on the invoice so she wouldn't know. but the vet or tech would have known and they didn't even let me know of their mistake when they were going over how the check up went. if they had told me about the accidental trim i would have been fine with it but it's the dishonesty and lack of transparency that's really irritating. i'm trusting these people with my baby and now i can't anymore because they're not honest people and are careless with their work. how can you mess something so simple up and not admit it to the client? now i'm wondering if they even gave my dog the right vaccine......also it's overpriced, i mean they can't even pay attention to detail so why does it cost so much...just don't go here you can't trust these people.

I love them here and so do my pups. Twice I had to take my pup for same day service. I didn’t have a long wait. They took such good care of her. I really appreciate that. Everyone here is so nice and so helpful. I will not be taking my pups anywhere else.

VCA Elk Grove Animal Hospital has steps in place to keep it Covid safe. While they take good care of your pet inside, the staff talks to you on the phone while you wait in your car. Payment is done from a text that they send you and is quick and easy. While I would rather be inside with my pet, this system works well under the circumstances.

They've always been polite, sympathetic and empathetic regarding your pet. They'll work with you in difficult situations if needed, you just can't be afraid to ask.

Update: For me everything just went Wrong total opposite of my first review. Proceeding services for my senior Chihuahua no longer alive 4/18/20, were Chaotic and not unclear! I understood Boss had a heard murmur over 5 years diagnosed before VCA. I understood murmur began to affect his heart, but I could never afford treatments labs, biopsies. Was never eligible for Care Credit until time to end my Chihuahua's life, his pain and suffering and mine! I guess Care credit covered everything needed to end his life! I could not bare to be with him as he was put to sleep forever, I now regret not being able not being with him! Going to be a while to recover from this whole experience and loss of a beautiful companion! Relieved also tho!

Tough place to review. We all know it's expensive to treat your pets, so cannot criticize that. The staff is great. I will always take my pets here. They care. I posted pics on an option when you pet passes away.

My family has been coming to VCA Elk Grove since before I was born - 1987. Dr. Van Riper has taken care of every single pet we’ve ever had (there’s been quite a few) The staff is amazing and we know everyone by first name. I would never take an animal anywhere else - VCA EG is truly world class care for your animals. I trust fully that they put the interest of the pet FIRST before anything else! Since I have entered adulthood and started my own family, we now live a little over an hour away. I still gladly make the trip for our 3 dogs and cat. I simply can’t put the same trust and loyalty into anyone else. Thank you for everything over the years!

The staff here is simply amazing. They have taken such good care of us in the short few months we have been going to them with our new bunnies and we have received way more than exceptional care from Dr. Van Riper and her team specifically. They are the sweetest and most caring people I've had the pleasure of working with. When we lost one of our babies to a freak accident they showed the utmost respect and sensitivity which helped us deal with the disappointing situation at the time. Love this place and will definitely keep coming back for our animal needs!

I took my rabbit to the so-called "Veterinary Centers of America Elk Grove Animal Hospital" and they turned me away instantly. They didn't even glance or look at my rabbit. I thought an animal hospital is suppose to help, make sure an animal is healthy and alive. However, this hospital shows that they DO NOT CARE about SMALL animals like rabbit. I called this hospital and Vista Animal Hospital, both declined my rabbit and I. They said "we do not look at rabbits." They sent me all the way to VCA Bradshaw and my 8-weeks old rabbit passed away on the way there on my lap. How can you call yourself an "animal hospital" if you can't help other animals besides cats and dogs? This hospital doesn't even deserve this one star.

I had to take my cat in during shelter in place because he got a scratch on his eye. They were so helpful and caring! The staff were very organized and friendly! The doctor went over his treatment plan and followed up with a check up call. The exam fee is high but they threw in a free dose of flea medication which was a nice touch. :)

Excellent service. I had my puppy spayed there last month and I am so pleased with the care and handling of my pet. I couldn't ask for a better experience.

Everyone has been so caring, nice and helpful with my old, sick Trixie. So happy I found this office . Will refer to all my friends and family.

We took our dog in because she had a seizure and they did no blood poke, nothing other than a visual look at her and sent us home with a huge list of testing Options. We have never had a health problem with our dog and she 10 years old. They said they could watch her for 3 hours but we didn’t see the point since they weren’t physically going to do anything. 4 hours later she had three seizures, rushed her to Bradshaw vet, because after we called VCA Elk Grove. They said they couldn’t see her. They were busy and closing. When our dog got in Bradshaw vet, she almost died and with a simple blood poke found out the beginning of the problem. She was there for three days, and Bradshaw was much more compassionate to our needs. We will NEVER go to VCA Elk Grove again! With a simple blood poke they would have seen the problem, and we would have avoided her nearly dying!

Dr. Becky Van Riper is the best. She is awesome with your dog and gets results fast and is thorough.

Staff is so friendly, and the nurses take great care of my furs. I wish the vet was as attentive as the nurses. But other than that a good place.

Perfectly friendly, professional and thorough! They are great at explaining what they are doing why they are doing it, and provide options every step of the way. My first visit here and I must say I am impressed! Thank you Dr. Clinton and Amber for being so great!

They took very good care of Lucky and now there taking care of Paisley I will always take my very little precious animals there.
