Adopted my beautiful little kitten "Storm" yesterday. Elk Grove animal shelter is wonderful. All of the ladies truly care about you and your needs. They take the needs of all the animals to heart as well. It's clean, well organized and fast. They explain everything to you. I recently lost my kitten and they truly did everything to make this visit a very special one. Thank you!!!!

This place was amazing! So clean, friendly staff, adoption process fast and easy! Pup was sent home neutered, chipped, current on shots and with pet license! Really glad I decided to go with a rescue dog. Would recommend this place to anybody and everybody looking to add a furr baby to their family!

Very kind personnel, and seemed like a safe environment for the animals. Concerns around same day adoptions and ensuring good homes for the animals.

Well my day started with me picking up a kitten that cars were zooming over, at crossroads of Elk Grove and Laguna Blvd. Once the kitten was in my car and secured, I looked on maps for a local animal shelter. The Shelter was closed due to it being Sunday, so I called the Elk Grove Non Emergency Hotline and asked for options on what to do with the kitten, she informed me that there may be personnel on sight, and if they were not there, call her back and she can send someone over. I get to the door and knock, a tall man of color approaches me (not sure his name) I explained the situation and he looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and said “we’re closed today.” And I proceeded to explain that the lady on the Non Emergency line sent me here, and he immediately responds and cuts me off and says “no they wouldn’t send you here.” I’ve been working customer service jobs since I was 15, I’m 21 now and work in the Fire Service, this not how you respond to customers or treat someone when they are going out of there way to help out this innocent life. I again explained that they did send me here, AND THEN he decided to do his job. I get that I look young like a teenager, but just because you think someone is younger and not as wise doesn’t me you can shy away from you job, and run away from your duties. You are in this the line of work to help, If a customer says something that is completely improbable, you don’t say no that’s not how it works… you use your critical thinking and problem solving skills to figure it out. Very simple. P.S. The staff that was actually certified to handle the animal that came out and helped me were absolutely amazing, and this review does not represent them. -Wyatt

Terrible service. The lady who answers the phone you cannot understand. She tells you one thing on the phone and you get there and it’s a different story. Tried calling there several times and no one would answer at times. Just horrible staff

WORST ANIMAL SHELTER EVER!! I brought a cat in that had some health issues that I wanted the shelter to look at and then I wanted to legally adopt him. This shelter told me they'd give me a call after examining him however, they euthanized him. The front desk lady with the shaved head was laughing sarcastically and making rude remarks when I asked what happened to the cat. He was a cat close to my family and myself and they completely disregarded my emotions! They don't care about their animals and they're super rude and inhumane. I also went to the back to see the adoptable cats and they had kittens in big cages and an older cat in a super small cage where he could barely move around. If there was an option to give negative stars I would!!!

Great place to foster and adopt! We got a discount for adopting and got a free 5 lb. bag of food. All shots and vet care provided for free during the fostering process. Easy to coordinate appointments and wonderful staff.

STAY AWAY! My friend brought in her cat, so they could overlook some medical concerns she had for her beloved pet. She just wanted to know where the health of her cat stood! When it came to giving back her cat, they said they would just give her a call so she could “adopt” her cat back. However, she never got the call and when she went in to the facility to ask about her cat she was told that her cat was already adopted out! Umhhhh a 10 year old cat already adopted out in a matter of a day (and a cat who’s dealing with health issues)! And why did she not receive a call back about HER PET! Like a pet is someone’s family member, if you guys euthanized him than be transparent with her! Why lie! Like how can you sleep at night knowing that you took someone’s pet (family member) away!

Today, I dropped off some unused dog food to donate after loosing my beloved dog unexpectedly a few days prior. The lady I spoke with on the phone instructed me to leave it in front of the door at the entrance so I did. As I was walking away the tech that came out to get it said "next time leave it over there" and then she pointed to the side of the door and if I hadn't turned and looked at her I doubt she would have said thanks quickly before going back inside. It was difficult to give away my dog's things and to have the trite, rude response that I got was just disheartening and hurtful. I can only hope those supplies go towards helping other dogs.

Shoot first, ask questions later. Our dog got picked up and brought here. She was in her harness , but her tags had fallen off and we hadn't gotten around to getting a new ring for them - but - she was in a harness. Instead of scanning her chip and giving us a call right away they gave her a series of vaccines "top protect the other animals, THEN called, THEN billed us for everything. We're not anti-vax at all, but I looked up the vaccines, and it takes up to 2 weeks for them to take full effect. How is that "for the protection of the animals"? When I asked this, the manager said that sometimes they loose their effectiveness so they need them again. Not in the traditional sense of "boosters' - she was just justifying giving needless shots. There was no care in what our dog's medical needs were. Maybe she's allergic to one of the vaccines? Who knows, they didn't ask first! They just shot her up THEN called us THEN charged us for all the shots and a recovery fee. Our dog is fully vaccinated, and we have documentation for all her shots. If they had called us first we could sent that over and have come right away. EVERY OTHER CITY, COUNTY AND STATE we have lived in ALWAYS scanned THEN called. When I asked why the conducted business like this, the manager said it was "their policy". When I asked where it was written, or published, or if it was available online, she said "no" it was not public and I could not see it. NEVER has anyone just pumped our animals with shots and billed us for it. I'm willing to bet this is how they cycle stock, keep staff paid and justify their budget.

We adopted my daughters FIRST PET a rabbit from here. We were told in order to adopt we had to sign a paper that we would bring the bunny back to get spayed. We had her for about 2 months and my daughter was extremely attached given it was her first pet. We took her bunny in to get fixed the day they had made an appointment for and they killed her rabbit. Not only did she have her first pet for only 2 months before we dropped her off to be killed, it was the first time my daughter has dealt with death and she now has nightmares about her rabbit and wakes up crying. I’d suggest nobody take their animals home to get attached to before bringing it to get spayed here!

We attended a kitten pop up event and were so pleased with our experience! Even after making the decision to adopt a pet, it’s a whole other feeling CHOOSING the right one. The woman we worked with (I think Koreena), was so patient and warm! She did not make us feel pressured at all and let us take our time holding a few kittens. We initially left empty handed, but changed our minds and came back. If our interactions had been different, we may have not felt comfortable returning! A great experience! The adoption fee is incredibly fair for all the care that was put into the animal. The staff clearly cares about the animals, a really clean and impressive animal facility.

This shelter is state of the art and such a positive experience to foster or adopt animals. I have fostered for Elk Grove Animal Shelter and their communication is top notch, the staff is so friendly. They genuinely love all the animals there and go to extra lengths to make sure they are happy and healthy. I strongly encourage fostering or adopting from EGAS.

This shelter is extremely clean and the staff is all so friendly. We recently adopted a dog from the shelter and they have been amazing even after adoption. Our dog was spayed the same day we picked her up. The following day they called to check and make sure she was recovering well with no complications. About a week later our dog ended up getting sick (at no fault of the shelter) so we called the shelter and they were very helpful the whole way. The vet tech wasn’t in on the day we called but they work with Bradshaw and directed us to go ahead and take her in. A couple hours after getting home we received a call from the shelter just checking in on our puppy to make sure everything was going to be ok. I couldn’t be happier that we rescued our dog from this shelter.
