NOT RELIABLE. WOULD NOT SEE MY SICK DOG. WERE SENT TO EMERGENCY VET. We were with Newport Mesa Animal Hospital for over a year with my two dogs. I went out of town, and my eldest dog got sick with diarrhea and occasional vomiting. I was in touch with the vet over a period of days and when we finally decided together that it was time for my dog to be seen, they could not take her that day and told us we would have to wait. My dog sitter was forced to take her to a very expensive Emergency Vet. On a Tuesday, in the middle of the working day. They left us high and dry and it's unacceptable. Despite the inconvenience, we have since moved to a vet with much more loyal and reliable policies.

I've been going to Newport Mesa Animal Hospital for over 15 years. I moved to San Diego a few years back and I still take my dog to see Dr. Tom every 6 months for a check up and every 4 months for dental work. Under Dr. Tom's excellent care, my 14-1/2 year old Yorkie Louie, is in excellent health and acts like he's 6. Dr. Tom has been a great vet and has given me much needed advice on Louie's upbringing. I feel confident in all Dr. Tom's decisions and wouldn't take Louie anywhere else.

Love Love Love Newport Mesa Animal Hospital and their entire staff! They are wonderful and have been for the nearly 20 years that all of my pets have been a client of theirs. I trust them entirely. Dr. Tom and Dr. Keating are absolutely fantastic! Just took my rescue pup, Nash, to Dr. Tom for his first time yesterday. Nash was Terrified when we walked in. Left with his head held high and tail wagging. I can’t say enough great things about these people! Thank you NMAH❤️

Dr. Steiner and the whole team are without a doubt the best in the industry. Each time I bring my pets here they are excited and make us feel at home. I’ve been to several vets and am glad to finally have found one I can depend on. The best of the best…

Grateful is the magic word. I am so grateful that I found Dr. Tom and this wonderful clinic. His staff are so sweet and they all truly care about my Snickers girl!! Both Dr. Tom and Dr. Keating didn’t want to do any tests that weren’t necessary thus avoiding major costs for me. That’s rare in the vet world. Everyone there is good, hardworking people that seriously love animals and have high morals and values. Dr. Tom is super personable and damn knowledgeable that’s for sure. We had a good laugh. The clinic has a very homey feel as soon as you walk in, It felt like a breath of fresh air when I walked in. I was worried about my cat, just crushed that she wasn’t acting herself and scared myself. I always pack a bag for Snickers (pillow, my t-shirts, her blanket) and the girl with the super curly hair said that’s totally great we will put it in with her! The girls at the front are always busy but they don’t look stressed or unhappy and are always ready to help as soon as we walk in the door. AND Dr. Tom (tearing up as I’m writing this) emailed me after I had emailed his office staff asking for help saying that he will personally take us on (instead of passing us along to someone else.) He has had great communication with me, emails and calls. This may seem like a dramatic review lol but my cat means the world to me and to have found a vet that is just so all around amazing, well, just feels real good. Thank you Dr. Tom, we adore you.

The staff are so responsive and so caring and so thorough. We really appreciate the care and support we get. We needed prompt emergency assistance because my little old dog was choking and they saw her tight seat and have her the medical attention she needed and then thoroughly went through additional items to help test her for general age related conditions. Everyone here is so friendly and helpful.

Thomas Irwin is a veterinarian who is ethical and dedicated to healing animals. What I've appreciated most over the years is that in situations where a good outcome is not available, they're honest about end of life options and pain management in the interests of the animal and your pocket book.

Big fan of Dr. Steiner. She was able to diagnose some heart issues in our pup that we had previously thought/been told were neurological- dramatically changing how we handled them. Thank you!

Not a great experience. I brought my cat in after I had just adopted her. She had an upper respiratory infection after coming home from the shelter. I brought her in, and then here’s where it went wrong, and it has to do with one staff member in particular. A girl with curly hair. Appointment 1 1. I handed the staff member my adoption papers at the beginning because it had vaccination and other related health documentation printed on it. When she was returning my pet, if I had not asked for my papers back, I would have never gotten them. She forgot them inside and had to go get them only after I asked her if the vets office was keeping them. This would have been okay, and good thing I have a good memory, but then the next is what pains me even more. 2. I spoke with the vet on the phone in my car after she examined my cat. She instructed me that she had administered a shot of medicine, and that I would have to administer eye drops to finish curing my kitten of her upper respiratory infection. When the staff member brought her out to me, I asked her about the drops. She told me I didn’t need to give my kitten any drops..... weird, being that the vet I just spoke to told me that I did, but okay. Maybe I heard her incorrectly. So, I go home, and the upper respiratory infection does not clear. In fact, my kittens eyes got progressively worse through the week. I had to make another appointment the following week to make sure my cat had recovered and to administer her next vaccine, since she had to wait until she was better from the infection. I took her in that week and learned that she was not better because I had not been administering the eye drops I had not been given.... so not only did the curly haired staff member cause my poor kitten to be sick and extra week, but she also caused her vaccinations to be postponed even longer, and cost me money for an extra visit. I am sad and disappointed. The vet, Dr Steiner, seemed really great and professional. But this experience has really put me off, and I don’t think I can return in good conscience because I don’t want bigger issues and possibly more dangerous ones to be overlooked by careless staff.

My first experience with NMAH was so good! Christina and Tiffany were super friendly and helpful on the phone making the appointment and Dr. Keating, Bernice and Katya were so nice and informative at the appointment. They treated my Yorkie with care, answered ALL of my questions, easing my anxiety, and I didn't leave with an empty bank account. Thank you all for a wonderful first impression!

I have been going to NMAH for over 15 years. I love Dr. Tom and Dr. Keating. They are full of compassion and love their job. Even in the most difficult times they go on and beyond. The staff, techs, and entire employees show the same care and compassion. I would not go anywhere else.

If you’re just like me then you’re looking through reviews to see which veterinary is the best for your pup. I recently got a puppy and wanted to know where the friendliest/best priced vet is in newport. After calling around to the local newport vets I was hooked by the way this hospital politely answered the phone (as compared to other places where they sound like they hate being at work.) My puppy Leah had a great first visit here, despite the circumstances! The receptionist explained everything so clearly over the phone and the doctor came out after her examination to update us on how well Leah had behaved and it was a huge relief to hear. The doctor laid out the plan for young Leah moving forward and they delivered Leah back to our car with a baggie of puppy essentials and free samples<3 This was the most pleasant puppy visit I have had at an animal hospital in a LONG TIME. 7/22/20

Used to go here years back. The vet and staff are an absolute delight and happy to have the new addition to the family experience the same friendliness.

Excellent place to take your pet. They show love & compassion for any animal you bring in. Hard finding people who are sentimental these days. Best Vet I've ever been to & I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else. Thank you.

They are following all the Cova19 guidelines, by only allowing the pets in to be checked while you wait in car and then they go over the exam with you.

We are from out of town and our dog started limping from something in his paw. We had no choice but to take him to a vet- this made me very nervous being from out of town. Dr. Steiner and the whole team was just incredible with him! The Covid precautions were 100% appreciated and I couldn’t be happier with the care they gave my little guy. Top notch, I wish we lived here so she could be our regular vet!

Yesterday was my first time taking my pup to this hospital and I can definitely say that I had a great experience. Everyone was very nice, the vet took the time to come outside to explain everything to me. I will definitely be back.
