Running with Scissors

The only reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars was because I was kept in a different room from my cat the intire visit. They were very nice and understanding. They made it clear about the cost and informed me about pet insurance. I will continue to bring my pet to VCA. Thanks for your help ????

This will be my home veterinarian for as long as they are open. When they say they love your pets they actually love your pets every single person that I have interacted with has been made for this job and they are careful in loving and understanding in the bin over backwards to help you and your family. I cannot say enough good about VCA Sacramento in Carmichael

The ladies who work in reception are awesome. My cat needs prescription food and he's picky but they always have what I need, other vets let me down but not only is their staff very professional and competent but they're very sweet

Our regular vet that we had been with for over 25 years couldn't find time to see our old sick cat Midnight but VCA even though they were completely booked up found the time to see her.

When your fur baby is sick, you want to know they are bring taken care of by professionals. VCA has been our emergency go to for years, so when my daughter's pup was ill over a holiday weekend, VCA was there, once again, to help. Personal, loving care is so important and they provide it every time.

This VCA gives great care to animals. The staff have always all been very nice and helpful. That said, they're also one of the most expensive vets I've been to. This place is great if you have an emergency. If it's not an emergency, call around and you're very likely to find a lower price on services.

I've only been to the VCA facility twice and both times were for cremations ????. These two animals were not just merely pets but very much as much of the family as I myself am. On both occations I was treated with genuine care and compassion, not memorized words and scripted responses. I will always cherish the human kindness I received from the staff at VCA animal facility in Carmichael

Very expensive now and no longer personable. Wasn't given any paper info on pets condition, just meds and told to come back in a week so they could change me another $200. I started going here 20 years ago.

I've only been inside once. The doctor that handles my dog is very knowledgeable and helpful. Since covid we have to park in back and someone comes out to get your dog, or if you want to go inside with your pet, you have to wear mask.

It was pretty quick, service was well executed, kind and friendly staff. Doctor was professional and personal. You make an appointment, pull around to the back parking lot and park in one of the numbered stalls. They come out take your information and your critter and over the phone the Doctor performs the exam. Then on line pay, and they bring back your critter- drive away. Very easy and well planned out for COVID purposes. If you are looking for a Vet. and service this is the place to go...."You Won't be Disappointed".

I’m not a fan of leaving poor reviews and I try to see the good in everyone but this office has a functional problem— I would say poor communication, poor training of their staff and honestly their inferior service costs more another local Vet clinic. I came to this office with newly adopted kitten from the SPCA. The SPCA and VCA have some understanding that the first kitten wellness visit and most minor medical issues will be treated in a 14 day period from adoption. This is the only reason I came to this office. The kitten checked out ok except I told them he’s been having bad, smelly diarrhea. I was told to watch it, might just be stress/change in environment, but to come back it it doesn’t improve. Well, it didn’t improve. So I called back on day 13 after adoption, they said let’s do a fecal exam and it will be covered by the SPCA deal. I brought in the sample. It came back positive for parasites. The next day, day 14, I went back to get the medicine which was also covered. I went in the office, wearing a mask, and I stood there for probably 8-10 minutes. I could hear people in the office, no one came to help. Finally, some one asked if I was being helped- and went to get the medication. They then tried to charge me and had to remind them it’s still in the 14 days since adoption- they still had to check with a manager if that was true. After more waiting and more discussion I left with my 10 day course of medication in hand. Day 7 of medication and the bottle of liquid ran out. Mind you, I’m a registered nurse and I’d say I’m an expert at using syringes and dosing medication. This was not an error on my part. The bottle didn’t have enough medication to begin with. I call them up, it’s early in the morning, I explain I need 2.5 ml of the medication because there wasn’t enough and was told a doctor will have to authorize more medication. OK. Fine. 8 hours later, still no message to pick up medication. I call back, it’s almost closing on Friday. The receptionist says the doctor is busy and they are closing for the day and closed the next day (july 4th) so they well have to address the issue Sunday. So I have a kitten still having diarrhea and now it’s bloody, I ran out of medication and I can’t get anyone to give me more. I’m not happy, but kitten seems fine, not an emergency. I’ll just have wait and have to probably start a new course of medication next week. I finally get a cal back on Monday. The doc apologized for the “kerfuffle” and we were to start another 5 day course of the parasite medication and it will still be covered since the first round didn’t go right. I go to pick it up, again have to wait for someone to show up in the office to get service, again have to hassle the girls about how I’m not to be charged for it, and again I take it home and the medication runs out on day 4. There’s not enough in the bottle. For a 5th day. Are they not accounting that a tiny bit coats the bottle or that a tiny bit stays in the syringe? Day 5, I give the Kitten a probiotic that was prescribed, that I paid for, and then I wait a few more days. He’s still having diarrhea, but it’s improving. I take him in for a vaccine and they say we should recheck his stool. I go back the next day with a sample and they want to charge me $88. Meanwhile I had my adult cat checked down the street for $41. I said no thanks and walked out. I took the sample to my usual vet (who had results the next day). Now, today, I just got a phone call because there was a “mix up” with the kitten’s stool sample at VCA. And I explained, we didn’t even do the fecal test 5 days ago and I took it somewhere else. To be nice- they seem like nice people and the Doctor’s are probably good. They just have a poorly attentive or poorly trained staff; poor organization, poor communication with doctors, and they really don’t know how to fill medication prescriptions. It made for some frustrating weeks.
