Southwind Animal Hospital Memphis, Arkansas

I first met Dr Tammy Wright shortly after moving to Memphis in 1989 when I adopted my first cat. She was very helpful for the next six years during some major health issues, including cancer treatment and surgery. I saw her yesterday when he gave my current cat her annual check up and shots. We'll be back next year for our next annual visit, and sooner if the needs arise. I highly recommend Southwind and Dr Tammy and her colleagues.

I was referred to Dr mitchner, who I really liked, awesome staff, my favorite tech is Kristy, she is so awesome, really goes above and beyond to put you at ease my 13 year old lab named Daisy was referred to them for thyroid cancer, I was uncomfortable when they took my dog off her pain meds and later found out after being referred to Missouri for treatment, that they were very surprised daisy was not getting better pain relief, so I gave her extra cbd and she was a different dog, I am going to see what they are going to do about this and I will update this review, because I am really not happy my dog has been suffering from pain that should have been treated we were sent to Missouri for a consultation and the primary cancer Dr could not believe she wasn't being treated for her pain better, I will update when I get a solution to this problem which has set her cancer treatment back not to even mention, I have spent approximately 5 thousand dollars to have my dog miserable because her pain is not being treated, and I am ssoooo happy to say Dr mitchner called right back and is trying a different pain approach, which I am very grateful for and I am confident to give a 5 star review as Dr mitchner was wonderful and very caring about the pain problems and took care of it immediately so I can with great certainty recommend this place whole heartedly ❤❤ I am happy to say, Daisy is doing great, we saw Dr mitchner on 11/15/21 and as usual the best standard of care, they gave her a shot called Legend and she is walking so much better, it's a treatment for osteoarthritis and this shot is phenomenal she is walking better and even running, this office has been 5 star since we started going there, Kristy my favorite tech is so good at calming my nerves and daisy loves her, you wouldn't be able to tell daisy has cancer if you didn't know, and it's so scary to watch your fur baby suffer, but Dr mitchner is always right there to treat any problems that come up, which have been minimal. I absolutely love this this place I would give more than 5 stars if I could, I will keep posting about daisy and how she is doing, if I can help even one person by getting them to Dr Mitchner, I feel like I have done my job, and I am ssoooo picky when it comes to my baby ????

My Stella is seeing Dr. Mitchner for lymphoma cancer. The vet is amazing, great bed side manner, and so gentle when she speaks. Her whole team from check in to check out are great! Her favs are Mr Sheldon and Christy. They tell you upfront what your are looking at treatment and cost wise. The doc will give you straight forward information on whether she thinks your baby’s case is going to have a good outcome or not. I would recommend them a million times over! My dog was diagnosed with presumed lung cancer at our local vet, given a prescription for prednisone, and I was told to not expect more than a couple weeks, all told over the phone and not in person due to the corporate company’s COVID policies. As a pediatric GI physician I couldn’t accept that as an answer because lack of evidence. I asked around and found Angel Care with Dr Kathy and her staff being the closest pet oncologist to Little Rock. I’ll say now you don’t need to look any further. I was blown away by the dedication, compassion, humanity, and open vulnerability about her own pet’s battle with cancer. With further studies her and I agreed that malignancy didn’t fit the picture. More likely an infectious fungal disease common in the area. Even though my dog didn’t fit the oncology picture, they still went above and beyond to help us start treatment and figuring out the diagnosis. I’ve had my dog since 4th year of med school and she helped get me through residency, fellowship, and being an attending. This is how I try to treat my patients and families and I found my veterinarian twin. I can’t say enough great things about Dr Kathy and her staff! Haley and I are forever greatful!

Dr. Mitchner is absolutely one of the best veterinarians in her specialty! She cares deeply about your pet and questions you might have. She's very detail oriented with diagnosis, treatment and symptoms to keep an eye out for. Would highly recommend anyone to her for pet cancer care!

I can't say enough about Southwind Animal Hospital. From the front desk to everyone behind the scene. Especially Dr. Mitchner, Christy, Michelle and Sheldon they take such good care of my Scarlet..... and especially her human keepers. When your furbaby has cancer Southwind Animal Hospital is compassionate, understanding and professional. Thank you Dr. Mitchner for your research on the first FDA approved chemotherapy drug for dogs. Thank you Dr. Sandy at VCA Eads (our regular vet) for the referral. We still see Dr. Sandy and her crew, We love them too, would not go anywhere else. Dr. Sandy you all are awesome. We have up and down days, but Scarlet is still mojoing along with her spirit filled self. Thank you to all of you for loving what you do day in and day out. Boarding Nightmare Our recently paralyzed beagle was boarded with Southwind Animal Hospital for 72 hours. Saturday upon picking him up we noticed visible signs of neglect: bruising, blistering and swelling of his hind quarters. Additionally, he received acupuncture care and was handled by vet techs during his stay. We were never contacted regarding concerns of his well-being. Within 48 the flesh around his sits bones rotted and left an open wound. Our nightmare was in fact true- he was seldom moved during his stay. Our dog developed what we as humans would call a bed sore. We contacted the establishment as soon as they opened Monday morning and we were “worked in” to their schedule. His medical needs regarding this incident were covered by the establishment. If your dog has special needs I do not recommend this Southwind Animal Hospital for boarding as they do not have the staff to provide the care that is necessary. Admittedly so by their own management.

Dr. Kathy Mitchner from Angel Care performs acupuncture and laser treatments for my rat terrier Buddy every 10 days. Other than back problems Buddy is a healthy dog but has had back problems for many years from rough housing with his brother from another fur mother, Harley. 3 years ago I thought we were to the end then my regular vet suggested Dr. Mitchner...he is now just shy of his 20th birthday and it appears he and I are almost ready to let him cross the rainbow bridge. I will be heart broken as he is my velcro soul dog but I will not let him suffer...he will give me the look and I will know it is time. Thank you Dr. Mitchner for giving me 3 more quality years with Buddy Boy! I gave you a 4 instead of a 5 on a technicality...You aren't Southwind but Angel Care. I felt odd giving Southwind a 5 star review when I am reviewing Angel Care and Dr. Mitchner. I am really splitting hairs here but felt the need to distinguish between the difference as Angel Care is housed with Southwind but still not technically Southwind...does that make sense? I sure hope so. I have no doubt Southwind would be just as good but I don't have the same relationship with then as I do with you. The picture I attached is our very first visit to see Dr. Mitchner in July 2018.

Southwind is unequivocally the most professional veterinarian office I've ever taken a pet to. They are courteous and caring and they are very thorough in making sure your pet is taken care of. They have helped my pets for both check-ups and more serious illness and I've never received better care. I will never take my animals anywhere else as long as they are around. Two thumbs and paws ???? all the way up.

Dr. Mitchener and her staff were so kind, accommodating, and professional. Dr. Mitchener sat down with me and explained things slowly, answering any questions I had. I could go on and on. The office was clean and covid compliant, which also makes you feel more comfortable. I would recommend this office to my friends in the future. Thank you Dr. Mitchener and staff!

All of our dogs go to Southwind Animal Hospital.. Great service A+, Friendly staff and reliable friendly vets. Can't recommend more! Wouldn't think of taking our furry family members anywhere else.

The staff and doctors here are amazing. I took My shih-Tzu Zoey to see them & ended up having to put her down. Everyone was so nice & compassionate & they made a very difficult situation less painful. The next week I received a card in the mail from them and it was such a kind gesture.

I've trusted my dogs to Southwind for many years because they know what they are doing and they love my dogs. A clear differentiator, beyond their excellent quality of care, is their quality of caring. My Greyhoound just got an excellent dental cleaning. It was not inexpensive, but she is doing quite well. They talked about how good she was, how pretty she was, how sweet she was. These things I knew of course, but it wasn't just lip service from them. They meant it, You want love, and quality care? Go to Southwind Animal Hospital.

Covid 19 is not a reason not take an emergency case. I can not believe the receptionist told me they would not be able to see a pet needing URGENT IMMEDIATE care. They suggested I drive 30 min to an emergency room. I had absolutely NO choice but to drive to the emergency room. Needless to say my dog did NOT make it. If she would've received care from a vet 5 min away from me she would still be here. Great vet to get pet shots TERRIBLE if needing immediate care.

Southwind is great they are so friendly and want to help. My dog got diagnosed with lymphoma recently and they are making him so much better.
