The staff at southwest surgical service were amazing. My poor pup, Milo, broke his leg and required surgery. They were able to schedule us less than 24 hours after it happened and took such good care of our boy. Dr. Schaible performed the surgery and was very knowledgeable and honest. The staff called multiple times with updates on Milo as he had to stay overnight and the entire experience was as pleasant as could be given the circumstances. He is now home resting and expected to make a full recovery. I would recommend the care at southwest surgical to everyone in need of a place to send their pet that they can trust!

I am forever grateful to Dr. Tanner Roberts for saving my dog Dudley. She came into the ER at midnight to perform emergency surgery on Dudley for dilated gastric volvulus which is often fatal. He is home and doing great. I see you are an intern. What a great future you have in store!!

The office is very organized. I found the People to be caring and the Vet very knowledgeable. I have no complaints and only praise for the experience. I feel as though my “baby” was well taken care of.

These people are amazing.. explained before hand with visuals, let me ask as many questions as possible and tried to reassure me with being honest about my frenchie. She had a dangerous but necessary procedure that I researched and asked other owners about. And a few told me to trust the surgeon here.. it was worth the thousands of dollars I owe in debt because my dog is a brand new dog and living better than she ever did before surgery.

SVSS is a well-oiled machine! The entire surgery process was made simple, smooth, and convenient. From Brett at reception, to the vet techs, to the surgeon they were all fantastic! Dr. Schaible is highly skilled in her profession but most importantly compassionate to pup and concerned pet parents. She took the time to explain, in layman's terms, our boy's CCL surgery. We were kept in the loop, throughout, the day of surgery and after. We felt nothing but confident leaving our O'Malley for surgery thanks to her and the rest of SVSS's staff of professionals. Our boy will be running and jumping again soon, thanks to SVSS, and for that we are forever appreciative!

Pros: Fully staffed and equipped professional veterinary surgery center. This is a real medical center that can address serious needs for your pet. Contacting somebody and getting a response was timely. Cons: The quality of the surgery and quality of the communication was lacking. My dog experienced multiple serious complications from the surgery that were not expected nor discussed. What was supposed to take 2 weeks is now going on 2 months and he is still not fully recovered. My dog may be partially disabled by the surgery for the rest of his life. While there was regular post-op communication with the clinic, it was done via the front receptionists in a scripted fashion. They either aren't able or qualified to say anything the surgeons don't tell them to say about post-op care and treatment. When I asked genuine medical questions they were usually not able to provide meaningful responses. Their standard response was to schedule another appointment. The cost of the initial surgery came in higher than the highest estimate provided during the consultation. That initial cost also did not include the multiple subsequent visits nor medications due to the complications. The greatest cost, however, has been the emotional toll and effort of the ongoing required care.

I am so thankful we were referred to this practice for my dog’s TPLO surgery. They weren’t the closest location but by far the best! From the communication from the first call in —-to the last follow-up I am thoroughly impressed. It is very hard to find the care, attention to detail and communication within any business as of late but they continued to impress me. I would hands down recommend this surgical center to anyone.

My poor pug has bilateral luxating patellas, and I knew that surgery would likely be in his future. My consultation was thorough and I was given honest options that were in the best interest of my little guy.

We brought our English Bulldog in for surgery just this Tuesday and I can’t thank them enough for taking such great care of our him. From the consultation to the day of the surgery and after, they have done such a great job communicating with us about the process and proper care needed. They answered all of our questions and checked in frequently. They truly treated him like their own and I couldn’t be more happy with choosing them.

I brought my five year old border collie here for a second opinion on her wrist injury and they provided me with so much information and pros/cons compared to other surgery centers. When I made the decision to go forward with surgery they were able to accommodate my girl within a week! All the surgeons and vet techs are wonderful and offer so much knowledge and support. My girl is recovering wonderfully and loves going in for her checks ups and gets excited to see the staff!

My dog had injured his CCL 2 1/2 years ago. My local vet urged me to take him to SVSS even though it was 2 hours away. He had the TPLO surgery the day we brought him in. They did the exam, explained in detail what the injury was, and what the surgery entailed. They called me once the surgery was complete to let me know how it went, and took good care of my boy overnight. I had concerns over the first weekend after surgery, called the office and received a call back from the surgeon on call pretty quickly who easily addressed my concerns. My dog had fully recovered and you would never know he had a plate in his leg. Fast forward 2 years and when he started showing signs of the same problem in his good knee, I knew I would be taking him back to SVSS. I had the same great experience with his 2nd surgery and he is well on his way to a full recovery. SVSS is professional, caring, and excellent surgical team. If I ever have another dog that needs surgery, I will spend the long drive down to Phoenix to help insure my dog has the best chance of a full recovery. I am so glad my local vet recommended SVSS to me.

Our 4.5lb Yorkie had bilateral hip disease! He is in less pain after surgery!

Our 8 month/2.4 lb pupply broke his leg in March. After several weeks in a splint we learned it was not healing properly. SVSS showed compassion from the first phone call. Although very busy, we were seen and surgery scheduled the next day. We were seen every two weeks after surgery. Every member of the staff was professional and caring. Dr. Schaible was excellent and kind. Thanks to SVSS, Vito is a happy, active puppy and we look forward to coming back to remove the plate in the future.

Dr. Schaible is incredible. My cocker spaniel Winston needed his 2nd TECA procedure that would ultimately render him deaf. The team at the center was so kind and compassionate. My little guy is pain free and doing great. In comparison, my little girl cocker spaniel had the same procedure with another surgeon in Scottsdale, and she did not have near the success as Winston. So I highly recommend Dr. Schaible's surgical skills, and her team is lovely.

Our dog needed his leg amputated and very quickly. We were concerned about doing the procedure, but felt it was the right decision after meeting with Dr.Schaible. She was very informed about our dogs medical condition and the staff went above and beyond to get him in quickly. We felt our boy was in good hands and received the very best care. The entire staff was kind and informative. I highly recommend the team at Southwest Veterinary Specialists.

Our Frenchie broke his arm right after Christmas last year when he was 5 months old. We were so lucky to get him in for surgery with Dr Schaible on New Years Eve. He just got his year+ follow up (when he got neutered...she did that, too, and his nostril job). The elbow is doing perfect! I highly recommend Dr Schaible.

The very best in the valley. The team at the Scottsdale facility are top notch. Very kind and caring for every pet that walks in their door. From the front staff to the surgeon everyone wanted the best for my pup. Speaking of my pup, after meticulously following the pre and post surgery instructions my fur baby is on her way to being her old self. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Hopefully she won't rupture any of her other ligaments but if she does Southwest Veterinary Surgical Service is my first and only option.

Great surgeons who are very skilled and will do a fantastic job at nursing your dog back to health. However they appear to be very disorganized when it comes to scheduling appointments. I'd still recommend only if you're willing to put up with a little frustrating moments.

My dog has been having some issues with degeneration of his knee joints. I got a referral from Dr. Sarah Brown at North Scottsdale Animal Hospital- for possible surgery. I read all the biographies of each surgeon at this facility and decided to make an appointment with Dr.Jeffrey Steurer, since cruciate ligament repair was listed as one of his specialties. He also was pictured with two large breed type bulldog or boxer dogs so I felt he would not be prejudiced against certain types of bully breed dogs. I had to wait a month and a half for the appointment. The day before someone from their office called to confirm my appointment, and I specifically asked to make sure that our appointment was with Dr. Steurer- I was told it was. The next day we went in for the appointment, and they were ready to do the surgery without even examining my dog. We were placed in a room with a vet technician that was clearly not comfortable with a big, friendly, rowdy dog. Then Dr. Dixon came in the room and I was told that Dr. Steurer was not working that day (after I had waited a month and a half and had confirmed my appointment the day before). Dr. Dixon looked odd to me as he had an extremely red face such as that of an alcoholic. Dr. Dixon did not examine my dog, but said he could tell by the X-rays that my dog needed surgery. (Cruciate ligaments do not show up in X-rays) and that he was scheduled to do the surgery that day! In the meantime the vet technician was trying to pet my dog, but she was nervous. My dog jumped and bumped into her chin. She immediately started saying that my dog had nipped at her her, which wasn't true. Then vet technician tried to muzzle my dog- she had no business doing this because she was clearly not a dog person. We decided to leave immediately rather than leave our dog for a surgery in the hands of a nervous vet technician and a possibly alcoholic doctor. It is clear to me that they are only interested in making money by doing surgeries, whether or not they are truly needed.

We had our Lab in for diagnostic testing for pain in rear legs. They did x-rays and told us there were no surgical issues. Then, at their recommendation, we authorized further diagnostic testing in the form of blood work. The following day we got a report that the x-ray showed hip dysplasia. That fact was withheld from us, or we would have never authorized further, expensive diagnostic tests. We were charged about $1000. For an exam and x-rays to diagnose presence of hip dysplasia, our primary care vet would have charged $229. I spoke with Libby, a manager there, and she was totally evasive, accepting no responsibility. In summary, the behavior of Southwest was greedy, deceptive and unprofessional. I recommend you not go.

Our cat went in for a surgery with Dr Schiable. Surgery went well they said. When anastesia wore off they took tubes out and our cat turned blue. They kept intubating and wanted us to transfer to Er for 4k, They told us they would keep our cat overnight originally and make sure he is ok. They had to leave by 6pm and we needed to make a decision. We ended up putting our cat down and were frankly devastated. Doc did not call and say i'm sorry /nothing. We felt they were simply trying to make more money off us. We had already shelved out 10k with no results. Our cat was in constant duress. I would not go back to this center EVER again. Something went wrong after surgery. Surgery went well, then our cat couldn;t breathe. no empathy no were sorry, just 135 dollars to have him cremated. AVOID this place

Attempted to make an appointment for my pet. Refusing to allow pet parents in to appointments is pure negligence!! Other Vets are allowing you to accompany your pet. It's easily done by waiting in the car and going directly into an exam room with your pet.
