Took both of my cockatiels in for a well-bird check up last night at 5:30pm. Receptionist was lovely, the paperwork was ready to go when I arrived; the place was not busy which made the visit much smoother (I have a fear of dogs). One cockatiel had an abnormal mass on her vent, that needed further investigation. They were completely transparent about the extra charges. Highly recommend this vet to anyone with a bird.

My first experience with Bell Animal & Bird Hospital went well. But that changed real quick in just a matter of 2 weeks. If you bring your pet here, make sure to repeat several times your reason for the appointment. I have 2 dogs who are each about 5 years old that were in need of an update of their immunizations. I took the chihuahua in first and Dr. Thrift was great. The next week I brought in my larger dog, boxer mix, for immunizations and a check up as well. I asked about suggestions for relief for his allergies because I do not like to give him medications such as human antihistamines etc and prefer a more natural remedy. We discussed different products and I thought we were done with the allergy discussion and moving on to the vaccines. The doctor then administered a shot and told me that because of his size he needed double dose at $68 each. I thought that seemed expensive for immunizations since I only paid $20 each shot for the smaller dog, but I agreed since the first visit for the smaller dog was a new patient special. The doctor then asked if he was up to date on his immunizations and I laughed and said "he is now". The doctor looked at me confused and said that he had given my dog a shot for his allergies not immunizations. Well there must have been a breakdown in communication when I scheduled his first appointment with this clinic for a physical and immunizations. I took a breath and told him that I was bringing him in for immunizations and a physical and thought I was just asking general questions that a normal person would ask a vet. I ended up getting the immunizations, paid the approx $250 (thank goodness I had a credit card on me) and left thinking that I learned an expensive lesson. This all happened last week. Two days ago I noticed my large dog who received the expensive shots is not licking his toes anymore and seems to be handling his allergies better thanks to the shot (I do not regret receiving) but is now walking with a limp. I inspected his leg and his paw and do not see any signs of injury nor does he cry when he limps or is touched. Because the limp seems to be getting worse after two days I called the vet to see if I should or could bring him in and there was much confusion when I was talking to the receptionist on the phone. I asked if it could be a side effect but she said she didn't think so and told me to just keep an eye on it. I laughed and hung up and called a different vet. Within a few minutes I received a return call from the receptionist at Bell Animal & Bird Hospital and she apologized about our conversation and said that the doctor was standing behind her and listening to the conversation so she felt uncomfortable with him there. Interesting. She then said that the shot would not have that side effect and that she could schedule an appointment for Monday. Today is Saturday. I told her if the doctor was standing behind her then perhaps he should have been the one answering the questions about the medication and the limp. I informed her that I am not going to go to this veterinarian anymore and that I will take my dogs to a different vet. Dr. Thrift is a nice man who appears to care about animals but I cannot deal with miscommunication and lack of professionalism from his staff. It could turn out to be an expensive visit or lack of proper recommendation in the well-being of my pet. Perhaps she needs to learn that when a person is calling regarding the health of an animal that cannot communicate the issue, she should schedule an appointment regardless. It would have cost me a $50 office visit to find out if my dog has a serious issue or not. Totally worth it to me, but I guess not to this business.

Took my green cheek conure here today, she isn't feeling good. The vet really didn't seem to knowledgeable about birds, was really only interested in me doing very expensive testing...I got no real answers at all...Dr. Thrift, was nice but didn't seem very organized or knowledgeable about my precious bird..now I spent 65.50 just to hear several hundred dallors of testing might find the answer... left feeling very disappointed drove 80. Miles round trip and felt very disappointed.i really feel after reading all the negative reviews that this doctors business is slow and has lost many patients due to no compassion and money driven, I also feel that he has no experience with exotic birds and had to go find a book to look up an answer to my questions... very very disappointed.

The receptionists were very kind and welcoming to my bird and I. They weren’t wearing masks when we came in which was a little worrisome but I understood as they worked with animals more than humans. Dr. Thrift saw my parakeet, he kept talking to my boyfriend and we had to keep reminding him that I was the owner of my own bird. He talked for about 10 minutes about the diet of my bird while she sat very upset in her box. We finally got her out and he explained how to hold the bird, then proceeded to manhandle her and wrap her in a paper towel. It was very uncomfortable to watch and I could tell my bird was in distress. He weighed her and went back to talking without even pulling out my bird, we had asked him to pull her out of the paper towel and he glared at us and agreed. There wasn’t much to the appointment and it was more so him talking to me about taking care of my bird that I’ve had for three years. The clinic is more appropriate for dogs and cats. However, I do not recommend bringing your bird friends to this hospital.

I felt that Dr. & Staff were very good with my egg bound Conure. I was very worried about her & Dr. Thrift explained the issue & course of action. The outcome was successful and my Conure is doing well after laying 5 eggs. I like the Dr & his staff. The facility is very tired & cluttered & needs a thorough cleaning & organizing. The fees for services were a huge surprise. While I understand cost of goods & overhead, $809 seemed super excessive. Being retired & living on Social Security, I will be very stressed for a long time to recover from the cost. The fees & overall conditions are my reason for 3 stars. I would give 5 stars for the Dr. & his staff and the care given to my Conure, as well as the way the procedures were explained. Will return to Bell A&BH, if ever I need them again, but may have to stand on the corner, with my birds on my shoulder, to beg for food, afterwards.

Went here a few years back in the summer of 2017 because my cockatiel had an eye infection. The vet manhandled the heck out of my bird, all just to get a look at her eye. He couldn't give us a definite answer for why she had an infection and he just gave us a generic infection medication to help the eye which cost an arm and a leg, which really didn't even help much. I'm sure he's a decent vet for dogs and cats, but for birds not so much.

They are very warming very welcoming people. They love their job, and have said that this is their home away from home. You know you are being taken well care for when you come here!

I have to agree with Whitney. I felt like the vet new what was wrong with my pup but he wanted to make money and run all of the tests. Same thing, he said it could be a number of things but it ended up being something very simple. He also withdrew blood from my pup in a very barbaric way by putting a rubber band around her neck and withdrawing it from her neck. They also do not ask you if you want a test done or any of the meds. They just do it and charge. I asked if I could a prescription for the specialty dog food and medications so I can get them from pet rx and the vet told me he would go broke if he gave people prescriptions to get the meds cheaper elsewhere. His techniques creeped me out and my pup absolutely did not connect with him. We will never go there again. Thank God my pup is doing well. She just ate something that didnt sit well with her. So after pedialyte and a bland diet she is doing very well.

Dr. Thrift was very kind, loaning me a lug wrench in the parking lot last night when I had a flat tire. O'Reilly Auto parts told me no, but this nice doctor not only loaned me the lug wrench, he actually helped get the tire changed! What a great guy. We need more people like him around. Thank you sir, I appreciate your help and just thought you should know.

Very weird doctor. Very unorganized. Office is dirty. Cares more about making money than about your pet. No compassion

I called ahead of time if they do emergency visits she said yes I'd just have to pay a fee. They close at 7 I got there around 6:20 the door was locked, I called and she said "oh since we were almost done putting away everything we won't take you in , I'm sorry" well because of that my parrot died later in the night. I always thought people became vets because they love animals and it appears that isn't the case. They are just there to clock in and clock out and that's it.

The entire staff here is kind and is always truly attentive to my dog. Dr Thrift is amazing! He takes the time to explain everything and he and his staff are always willing to take the time to pet and talk to my dog to make him comfortable. I will never take my pets anywhere else

We're very rude and the way the animals were kept in the back after procedures was atrocious.... My dog was poorly treated. Had to go back for the same thing multiple times. Finally got him to a different vet and it took one visit and he's had absolutely no issues. I wouldn't recommend taking an animal that you love to this office
