The receptionist was amazing. Caring, kind and showed concern. She did let me know of the $200 exam fee and i told her i could 150 then pay the remaining 50 when i got home. I was placed in the exam room with my pup and started doing the application for Care credit. Then a man, who I am assuming was the Dr comes in, doesn't introduce himself says " $150? Well im gonna be up front with you and just say by the looks of your dog he looks stable enough to wait for a regular vet in the morning because its gonna very expensive." Like really? I was literally working on the application and was pre approved for a good amount. Theres no price on the well being of my baby. Needless to say, the lack of compassion and interaction from this guy was not what i expected from an ER vet. Hopefully, never again have to deal with this place.

Dogs conveniently never chase scorpions or rassle with coyotes during the day when 99% of vets are open for business. They save their mischief for the wee dark hours of the early day - mine seem to gravitate toward 2am. So so so thankful for 1st pet and the hours they keep - don't kid yourself, it is not going to come in on the low side of inexpensive but you are paying caring professionals who would never be there if they weren't totally dedicated to the animals. Like good mechanics, they will tell you which tests are essential to treatment and which will give a more complete picture of your pet's health but aren't totally necessary. They won't tell you that you need the oil changed so you'd better buy new tires. When my goldens were puppies, their 2nd night with me, my girl was listless and not eating. Took her to 1st pet immediately, they diagnosed parvo and kept her 3 days and saved her life. Less than a week later, my little boy pup came down with it because he wouldn't leave his sister's side. He only spent 1 night but again, they saved him, too. Cost north of 6 grand but I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Came here earlier today and received exceptional service. They were very friendly it was fast and the way they treat dogs are amazing. They gave our dog a bandana to help calm him down and gave him lots of treats to get friendly with our dog. Would recommend 10/10 if you have a pet emergency

The wait time was unbelievably long. Every time we've come to this facility the wait time has always been well over two hours in the exam room or waiting in our car. Other than that everything is excellent. We LOVE Dr. April Hohnbaum. She's wonderful. Very patient, kind, intelligent, knowledgable, explains everything in detail, listens to our concerns, asks if we have questions and listens intently.....we can't say enough about her. She's a big part of why we use this facility.

Unfortunately had to have our cat euthanized. We paid for paw prints with private cremation. They sent our card and our paw prints to another person and we received someone else's. We keep contacting them and they chose to ignore us and when we talk to some one they are rude and uncaring and act like it is our fault. We are absolutely devastated because the paw prints are the last thing we will have of our cat. They won't even return our phone calls or emails. Next step is to contact our attorney for tort of neglect. I had to have my dog euthanized almost a year ago and it took multiple phone calls before I even received the paw prints of him. Very bad business practice. It is sad that the past few years their service has gone downhill.

This was worse experience I have had with a vet. The sad part when I saw them 3 years ago they were great. The first thing they did was say that it would take 3 to 4 hours before she would get seen because of how busy they were. They insisted that the only way she was to be seen was a 200 dollar deposit was given first.7 hours later we finally received a call from the vet. We're told that she felt sore in her stomach when touched. She recommended labs and x-rays. She stated the labs were 200 and the x-rays were 400. The actual bill for the labs were well over 200 Calli the cat was not throwing up at time but they still have her something for it. We're not given a written estimate of all the costs. We were told after ward that was supposed to be a signed approval. To add insult to injury they lost her carrier and had the nerve to ask us 3 times if we're sure we didn't take it home with us. I asked about why a blood gas was done to her which was not necessary for her problem. We're told that was included. We were also sold 3 times as much needed for the antibiotics because that was all they had. The front desk was not very sympathetic to our needs. They were pretty rude in my opinion. To add insult to injury they didn't even offer to reimburse us for the carrier they lost. They said we had to bring it up to manager because she was not the one who had the carrier in the first place. The only reason I scored a one was that was the lowest score I could give.

We recently had a pet emergency in the middle of the night with my husbands service dog, our loyal and loved partner/family member, Cochise. He was only 5, and had been having seizures occasionally for 18 months prior to this event. We have been to 4 veterinarians, had numerous blood tests, and tried several medications. We tried everything…I’m only mentioning this because Dr Courtney Deer commented to my distraught husband that he just didn’t do enough…but I digress. At 1:00 AM on the morning of January 3, Cochise started seizing…and he could not stop. It was horrific at best, traumatizing for our dog, as well as our family. Our family vet is of course closed at 1:00am. After frantically googling emergency veterinary, we wound up at this place. We knew that the moment had come that our friend needed to be euthanized. Not a decision that is taken lightly. We loved him so much AND he preformed very valuable service, my husband is disabled. This dog was literally his “right hand man”, beloved loyal companion. Dr Deer decided that she would mention that we didn’t do enough!….REALLY? She had no clue how many opinions, medicines, tests, theory’s we have been subjected to. The truth is, she just casually diagnosed him as being epileptic, which is a very vague and broad term. And she was just going to throw another drug at us, which none of us knew if it would work or not, at this point. Dr Deer didn’t know what to do either…just another guess and yet another drug. Dr Deer refused to euthanize our dog, she guaranteed us that he could be managed. I doubted it seriously, but of course I was hopeful. I did not want Cochise to suffer any longer, and was nervous about what if this does not work either. She left the room and we never saw her again. Then the assistant came in and was talking very fast about home care and medications. She was going at such a speed, that my husband and his sister asked her to slow down a little, so that they could fully understand instructions. She rolled her eyes and started talking to them like they were children. Yes, I said rolled her eyes. None of us are remedial learners….but we don’t work graveyard, had all gotten out of bed in the middle of the night, and we were all extremely upset, worried and sad. So yes, we needed a bit more patience. Hey 1st Vet….your customers aren’t at your practice at 2:30AM when they are having a great day, anyone there in the wee hours is having a trauma. We asked the assistant, “what happens if this does not work and he starts seizing tonight before our vet opens?” She said to just call and we could bring him back. Then someone else came in and collected over $500.00 and we were shown the door. Two assistants carried our dog to the car, he could not walk. I left in my vehicle. My husband and sister-in-law didn’t even get a mile away when the seizures started again. Not even 10 minutes. They called to bring him back, as instructed. Only the receptionist said “no, we are at full capacity, we can’t see you”. Really? We are hysterical by now, I don’t know if any of you have ever watched your pet having a seizure, it is terrible. They told us to make other arrangements. Wow Cochise, incidentally never regained consciousness. He never stopped seizing. Not ever. Because Dr Deer decided not to euthanize him, he suffered horribly for many hours until our family vet opened. He had brain damage by then. I am trying so hard to be a decent person…but I’m having a very difficult time not being angry and bitter. My husband is inconsolable. This situation had no possible great outcome, but 1st Vet made this situation much more traumatic than it should have been. Not ONE person in this clinic had one shred of compassion for Cochise or for us. They failed my dog. They failed my husband. An apology would be in order, but I know that is way too much to ask. These people clearly don’t care.

I took my kitty in to have him put to sleep as he was suffering from terminal lung cancer. This was a traumatic experience as I was upset, my cat was upset and the treatment we received was nothing short of horrific. I have had to go thru this with other pets twice previously and both were smooth, efficient & compassionate. 1st Pet was anything but! At one point the male tech even suggested that if I was unhappy with their service, he could remove the catheter & I could take my kitty elsewhere!! As tho I was getting some mundane service, like getting my tires rotated, instead of losing my beloved pet and companion! I do give kudos to the lovely lady from the front desk that finally brought in the paperwork & checked me out. I apologize for not getting her as at that point I was too upset to even know my name. But she was very patient, compassionate and extremely apologetic for the way I had been treated. To Her and the Vet that did the final injection, I give great thanks. To the heavyset male tech with the beard & tattoos - I say he needs to be in another line of work - like rotating tires.

My grandma’s dog had a birthing complication. We took it into 1st Pet and their employees were really kind and attentive. They were really compassionate and considerate. We would recommend this location.

Well-informed staff who are prepared to kindly share their wisdom and lead by example. Everyone is super friendly and efficient. As in all medical facilities, there’s a bit of waiting, but each staff member truly showed care and respect for our time as much as for having a happy & successful vet visit. They provide lots of material ahead of your visit so you can help make the vet visit positive for your pet too. I snapped a photo of their triage form so we know in the future what to expect. I really appreciate the transparency. We signed up for an annual wellness program that I’m thoroughly impressed by. Absolutely affordable (under $50/month for adult dog) and incredibly generous - includes monthly heart worm preventive and unlimited nail trims and those are just bonuses (to me!). Anyway, ask them about it. It got our girl fully vaccinated, ready for public appearances, and we left with a fully tested clean bill of health. Plus! Our sweet girl has major allergies and the staff went above and beyond helping us source health supplements that are allergen free (heart worm prevention and joint supplements). We are thrilled to know we have a loving vet office we can trust with the ultimate wellness of our fur babe. Hallelujah! Thank you, 1st Pet Vet! ????????

I am so pleased to have found your vet practice for my cat Ruby. Dr Hoge went the extra mile to find a medicine to finally cure Ruby's UTI's that her previous vet could not, and then he went further to find medicine to enhance her quality of life despite her aging kidneys. Ruby is back to her old self, and she is doing great! And Ruby also does much better on her trips to see you, thanks to the happy kitty packets that you provide for her. Thank you to everyone who has participated in her care!

They have become my primary care vets. Vets today won't work you in if there's an emergency and seem to just close at normal business hours. I have a wonderful bet at 1st pet who goes over and above, Dr. Richardson. They are all great, staff includes.

Greeted and roomed promptly and it was explained that any more serious incoming would be treated first as my dog was in stable condition. She was gently cared for. While I was back at home the Dr called 3 times to check in with me! They made certain once she was treated and being discharged that I clearly understood everything necessary for her continuing care.

I Love love love this vet and have gone here for years. However when I called today to make an apt they said they didn’t have anything for 3 weeks out or I could pay 200$ for emergency vet fee. I realize they’re busy but it was pretty callous the way it was said especially when my cat is sick. It seemed like they only cared about money this visit when I have never been really treated like that. Honestly the money hungry behavior just really made me sad and I now have to find a new vet which really sucks because my cats who hate the vet liked it here. Edit - I appreciate the response from the owner however the wait time wasn’t the issue. The money wasn’t the issue. I would pay 500$ to take my cat there if I had to because they love that vet. What’s not okay is how I was spoken to. Instead of making excuses as far as shortages, which I understand and get, maybe acknowledge the customer service aspect of it and speak to us with dignity and respect instead of seeming like a bother and all we’re worth is dollar signs. My cats mean the world to me. Money is not the issue. Thank you for the response.

This place is awful!money hungry and could care less about your animals I’m ashamed I let my dog go here . I took my dog there because he was having some issues with a wound. When I got there he had a fever , and they said it would be a 1-2 hour wait and I could leave him…. 5 hours later of waiting and almost 600$ I brought him home, they gave me minimal feedback or answers and sent me home with antibiotics . From past experience I knew there could be something topical I could put on his wound to promote faster healing . So I called day after being seen , 3 times never heard back, 3 more times the next day and 3 more the day after … finally I heard back 4 days later and they said he needs to be seen again to prescribe anything topical …and the tech on the phone could care less . THEY JUST SAW HiM! I just spent 600$ for antibiotics and no answers . Horrible customer service , and just a horrible experience I’ll never go back.

They are super fast to put down your beloved babies, but the good news is that at least they smile when they F you. If you have deep pockets and a well charged phone to pass the hours you will wait, then you will be fine. Anywhere is better than here.

Yesterday I had an exceptional appointment with fabulous interaction between both the vet tech and the vet, with my fur babies! ! I have been going to them when in town for years, and find them affordable and with a 24-hour emergency clinic attached as well! They practice FEAR-FREE EXAMS- which means they don't separate you from your animal and there are pheromones plugged into the wall and soothing music for the relaxation of your fur baby during the exam. I highly recommend this practice, even if you need to make a drive to East Mesa!!!!???? ???? ???? ???? ????

Our senior cat was in need of emergency care and rushed to 1st Pet. Having had previous negative experiences at other emergency vet centers, we were anxious about how things would go at a facility we’d never been to. From the moment we arrived, the 1st Pet staff was responsive, friendly, accommodating and sympathetic. They were able quickly stabilize our sweet boy. After tests and talking with the vet, we ultimately made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him. We are forever grateful for 1st Pet’s efforts in making our boy as comfortable as possible in his last hours. They gave us as much time as we needed with him before saying our final goodbye. At no time did we feel rushed or pressured. Given the heartbreaking circumstances, 1st Pet did an wonderful job.

I was going to Power Road Vet when I first got my puppy, Henry, in 2016. I never even heard of 1st Pet Vet until my puppy was almost ripped apart in a pit bull attack, 10 days before he turned 2 years old. Firemen raced my Henry to 1st Pet Vet while I went to the human hospital to get stitches (the pit bull bit my hand when I was trying to get to release his grip around Henry’s neck). Henry had 9 long deep lacerations all over his 12 pound body. The vet called me I was in ER and said they would have to do emergency surgery to save his life. Henry was in the hospital for 3 days. When he came home, he was extremely skittish and went from a chill, easy going dog to a neurotic one. He was damaged both physically and mentally, but he was alive! 1st Pet saved his life! Since then, I changed my primary vet from Power Road Vet to 1st Pet for several reasons: Power Rd is on the opposite side of town and 1st Pet Vet is less than 5 minutes away and open 24 hours. They don’t charge nearly as much as Power Rd did for annual exams, etc. They truly care! They have always done follow up calls after visits to see how Henry is doing. Since Henry was attacked, First Pet has treated him: he has developed allergies from unknown substances and gets allergy shots 2-3 times a year. He was diagnosed with IVDD in July and put on steroids and pain killers and recovered a month later, although he does suffer from seizure-like attacks where he shakes uncontrollably and pants for an hour or two almost every day. I started him on CBD oil for dogs and that has alleviated the shaking episodes to where he barely gets them. 2 weeks ago he was bleeding hard from the rectum and I took him to 1st Pet Vet emergency and they did blood tests and X-rays for the 5 hours he was there and he was diagnosed with Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. No idea what caused it but the Vet’s treatment plan worked and he was back to his usual self in less than a week. I feel secure and satisfied that I have a Vet I can trust, that is inexpensive, that truly cares (they won’t muzzle dogs unless they absolutely have to) and that is only a stone’s throw away from my house and knowing I can take him there any time of the day or night as they are open 24 hours. Bravo and HUGE kudos to 1st Pet Vet!

We took our dog there for a broken nail that had exposed the quick, bleeding and causing discomfort. They had us in and out, made sure our dog was comfortable before taking her back to remove the nail. Friendly staff and professional.

Should be zero stars, really. We were told by the 1st Pet in Chandler, after they called to check, that this location would be able to see our dog. We drove all the way here just for them to turn us away. They didn't follow through on taking care of our dog. They are not to be trusted, they went back on their word. I do not recommend going here.

We were here on Sunday, November 28th for a euthanasia of our dog, Lambeau. Lambeau was suffering from an enlarged heart and was breathing rapidly, struggling to walk, and fainting from lack of oxygen while at home. We brought him in thinking we would put a peaceful end to his life. The clinic refused to euthanize him due to him being alert and them not feeling comfortable doing it. We opted for treatment from the clinic instead as this is what they recommended and the tech told us with treatment Lambeau could live for years to come. Lambeau spent 7 hours at the clinic on Sunday only to die two hours after we brought him back home. When we picked him up from the clinic they assured us his weak walking and excessive panting was from the drugs they had given him for his heart. Well the stumbling and panting never stopped since he arrived back home with us. He died going through pain and suffering due to the incompetence of this clinic. My wife called in at 11pm to tell them he had passed and they had no sympathy or any concern other than to offer we could bring him in for $175 to cremate him. Not to mention we spent just over $1,000 to treat him only for him to die two hours after he got home. What a way to treat your customers and more importantly the pet they loved. I would never recommend this clinic to anyone. No sympathy, no compassion, and in my personal opinion only out to make a quick buck.
