My wife waited in the parking lot for 4 hours after they called us to come to there parking lot. They would not tell us what is wrong with our dog because we did not want to spend over a thousand dollars for x rays after we paid $490 for a …

My pup had been throwing up and having bloody diarrhea, and I had to wait for 7 hours in their parking lot to get her seen. She was becoming progressively worse so I called in again to check to see why the wait was so long (I had already been here 6 hours at this point) and the receptionist yelled at me about how other peoples pets were actively dying and pretty much told me that my dog was not important to them. This woman should absolutely be fired. She lacks any form of compassion and empathy. I will absolutely NEVER be coming back here.

Appalling lack of care and compassion. We live in the Soldotna area with our dog, Ruger, who is suffering from parachardial effusion. This is basically a tumor blocking a ventricle in his heart, which leads to a large amount of fluid buildup in the heart and abdomen causing extreme discomfort and breathing complications. Yesterday, Ruger had 10 pounds of extra fluid built up and needed a tap to drain it. Our local vet was not comfortable with the procedure so she set up a referral with Midnight Sun. With us being on the peninsula, the soonest we could get to Anchorage was 7 pm, which we were told was fine as Midnight Sun closes at 8 pm. We drove through a freezing rain storm and arrived at Midnight Sun at 7 pm. They told us they thought we were going to be there at 5 pm (which was impossible due to the 3 hour drive) and could no longer do the procedure on Ruger as it would require 1 1/2 hours (not true, he’s had it done twice and it was under an hour each time). Remember, these people were EXPECTING us. Even if the procedure took them 1/2 hour beyond 8 pm, is it not worth their provider’s time to provide a dying pet a few weeks of relief? How does this situation not constitute an emergency? It really says a lot about the low quality of culture at Midnight Sun. We have never seen such lack of compassion, laziness and outright dishonesty shown for either a pet or a pet owner from an animal clinic.

This is the worst vet I've ever had the displeasure if visiting, they tried to get my mom to put out dog down, they said he couldn't walk and he wasn't getting better, but when he got home he got up walked around, jumped on my mom's bed and various other things. They also were directly responsible for the death of anoth one of my dogs, they didn't do bloodwork on her before surgery to see if the anesthetic would cause a reaction to her malformed kidney which it did and caused it to burst so she had to endure a horrible and painful death, it was due to there medical malpractice that my dog is now dead. Do not bring you pet here, pet emergency is more expensive but they know how to do there job.

The staff was so friendly and they treated my dog so well!! The process for taking in animals and releasing them at the end of the appointment was very efficient. Highly recommend!

Still can't be with your pet inside even so I'm fully vaccinated and wearing a mask. This is beyond ridiculous!!!!You wouldn't send your child to see the doctor by itself. My dogs are my children!! I'm DONE with Anchorage veterinarians and their bad attitude and ignorance like they're doing us a favor and work for free. Yeah right! I'll take the extra 40 minutes and drive to Palmer to see my new vet that actually cares and allows me to be inside with my dog!!

I called 10 vets in the Anchorage area for a health certificate for my hedgehog. Two months was the earliest anyone would see him. Midnight Sun said they would see him with their wait-list walk-in system. I called in the morning to check in, they called when they had availability. When I showed up, the whole process took less than an hour. Staff was friendly and helpful.

This place is just awful. I spoke to a receptionist today who actually yelled at me. I was told it would be about 2 hours, so I drove an hour to get there, waited 4 hours, then was YELLED at when I called to see how much longer it’d be, all while having a very sick dog repeatedly throwing up in my car. I have never seen a business with such terrible customer service.

Recently we seriously thought we were losing our pup. We brought her to midnight sun after she collapsed and were told all bad news. We thought we weren’t going home with our pup that night. We cried so much that day and midnight was very patient with us. The prices are a bit outrageous but to be expected. We went home with 6 medications and a week later, had an update appointment. My pup was sooo much better. Without midnight sun, we would have lost our pup. We aren’t entirely out of the woods yet but She is fighting so hard right now.

Happy with the service once you are seen but not happy with the way they expect the customer to be there the moment they call you when they make you wait for days on end. I’m looking for another place to take my dogs to. The customer service is severely lacking. Was far better years ago.

My opinion this business owner should not own a business like this that requires compassion and honesty. NO ONE called me back with my little fur babies test results, SHAME on YOU! Now I know why this business has the worst ratings in Anchorage for Veterinary services. The review someone wrote on the BBB site posted 7/20/2021 is heartbreaking as are many of the post listed here. This ongoing Pandemic is very hard on everyone not just those that provide services.

The last few times I have gone I've had a appointment so the wait wasn't as bad. Still have to sit in the car and can't go in.

This is the latest. It may seem minor, but it's either this or an 8hour wait sitting in the parking lot in my vehicle(with a sick pet). So I've had it! This is the email I sent to them early in the week- I've gotten no response.... Their "call list" will only work if they actually call the pets owners that are on it.... ......Hi. I called yesterday morning (Tue 10/9) about a lump on my dog Lulu's belly and was told that Lulu was being put on a standby list to be seen, and that it's  not currently,  and shouldnt be that bad of a wait time today. This was at approx 9:30am. Thus, I changed my day around and stayed home,  waiting to be called so that I'd be ready to pack Lulu up and go.  By 3:48pm, I still hadn't heard anything so I called your office. I was told that there were 2 pets ahead of Lulu  (Lulu is the 3rd).  Another 4 hours later,  @ 7:45, I still hadn't received a call to bring Lulu in, and there was no answer when I called your office. It would've been considerate and appreciated had I received a phone call stating the day had become  busy and you could no longer guarantee that Lulu would be called in that day. My whole day was wasted. MAY I schedule an appointment for Lulu so that I'm not sitting on call all day for a call that may or may not happen? Sorry if this is harpy- I  had so many things that needed done yesterday.  I'll always choose Lulu as my priority,  but id like a Vet whom I believe is conscientious and caring,  respectful and honest towards me as a consumer, and who also appreciates my business. Frustrating. Thank you, Kelly & Lulu I guess I should assume her answer to me was "f__off, don't bother me. Doing my nails". Ok.

Midnight Sun is amazing. Their office call is the same regardless of the time, they do not price gouge you just because your pet becomes ill or injured after hours. Unfortunately my family has had to have multiple visits in the last year for our pets However they received the best care at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend Midnight Sun Animal Hospital if you have a pet emergency

My dog Charlie was admitted late one evening due to breathing problems, it ended up being much more than something simple and he spent almost 5 days in their care. The clinic staff were so communicative and kind during this stressful time. They let me know my options thoroughly and communicated price constantly. They were so good to my boy while he was there. He needed specialist care and two were brought into the clinic to evaluate him, and he was able to receive an emergent surgery. It was truly a great experience during such a hard time and I can’t thank them enough for all the love and care they gave to him. You are so appreciated, thank you again!

I highly recommend Midnight Sun Animal Hospital! They are so knowledgeable and have an amazing team! Not only did they help us with an emergency with two of our fur babies they have friendly staff on top of it.

I took my dog to Midnight Sun for a badly torn eyelid. I arrived at 8:30AM on a Saturday and was the 2nd person in line. Because of COVID safety protocols, the tech met me in the parking lot to get my dog. 15 minutes later I received a phone call explaining the potential cost — both the low end and the worst-case high end. I felt like they were being totally transparent and trustworthy, and remained in close contact with me as they worked on my pup. Several hours later I picked up my pup and meds. Her wound healed beautifully and 10 days later I returned for a quick 15 min appointment to get the sutures out. If I ever need an ER vet again, I’m definitely going to Midnight Sun.

Two weeks ago, during the evening, I arrived at this clinic in a cab with a very sick little Bichon who was dying I was not admitted inside the clinic until I paid them an $800.00 deposit In addition to that, I was required to stand in the parking lot hold my dog, who as it turned out, only had an hour to live, until my deposit cleared This is the quality and I humane service you can expect here and that applies to the staff as well

Brought our dog who was in a lot of pain and called when we were in the parking lot. They didn’t even look at him, just told us that it sounded like it could wait until tomorrow, and since we weren’t in their queue we could do that or we could take him to another vet. They were kind enough to refer us to the other 24 hour vet in town, where we had a fantastic (if heartbreaking) experience. And so I’ve awarded a second star simply because of the referral. He was diagnosed at that other ER with osteosarcoma that night and put to sleep. I understand being backed up… but to not even offer to triage our boy to get a sense of what was happening… I don’t find that to be acceptable. I’ve seen many recommendations for this place, so understandably I’m sure many folks will have or have had a much different experience. That said, and emotion removed, I found their processes to be lacking… especially to not even give us the option of a wait. Instead we got a “sorry bout your luck, seek care elsewhere.” Y’all can do better.

I’ll just leave this here. I’ve also reported to the Better Business Bureau and left a review on your Google business page. Whatever I can do to prevent this experience from happening to other pet parents is worthwhile. We went to this business for emergency services around a week ago. Now that our grief has settled down a bit, it’s time to make our story known so other pet families are aware. Prior to entering the building, we called as instructed by signs outside. My husband had started explaining the list of symptoms our dog had and had only shared the first symptoms or her having not eaten for 3 days when we were cut off and told that this was not an emergency and to see our regular vet during regular business hours. Ellie’s symptoms at this time involved not eating, lethargy, vomiting, and dehydration. As my husband got off the phone and explained the phone call to me, I immediately called back and explained that it was inappropriate to cut him off without hearing the full list of symptoms. While the receptionist presented as uncaring, I listed off pup's symptoms. This time, I was fed a line about how they just "didn't have the space to take another animal despite your belief they are in an emergency". First of all, unless you are the vet specifically, you do not get to tell me whether my pet is in an emergent state or not, especially without an exam. At this point, we had consulted with multiple vet techs out of state that we are connected with as well as an online vet who recommend our dog be taken to the emergency clinic immediately. We took her down the road to Pet Emergency Treatment and were seen as soon as they could get us in. Ellie ended up have a major intestinal obstruction and passed a few hours after diagnosis. This was nearly 12 hours after we had sought care from Midnight Sun and were denied care. Those 12 hours could have made the difference in life saving measures and getting things together to save Ellie. She could have been rehydrated sooner, giving her a chance to be strong enough for a surgery. Instead, your staff robbed us of our puppy all because you were too busy to have a full conversation without cutting someone off and de-prioritizing someone's pet. We as pet parents had to make the toughest decision due to your lack of care. As a healthcare worker with a private practice, I would never treat someone the way that we were treated. It’s inappropriate and unfortunately there is no clear resolution for this situation, as Ellie is gone regardless. I suggest you educate your staff better and consider parting with your receptionist as she appears untrained and unprofessional. For those seeking care here, check the reviews across the board. There are multiple reviews like mine. If you believe there is something wrong with your pet, fight for their care, do not let a receptionist who probably has no training in animal medicine dictate the care your pet receives. Midnight Sun, do better. You are one of two emergency clinics in the area. You have robbed our family of joy and years that we could have spent with our puppy as she got older. Ellie was a happy and healthy 6 month old puppy before the obstruction occurred. Our family, including our 7 year old son, are devastated by this loss. You should be ashamed and embarrassed for your poor service and I hope for the sake of other pet families that you figure out how to provide quality care.

I have gone to this veterinary clinic for years as my after hours, emergency vet. I've been happy with the care my dog has received. However, now that the mask requirement has been lifted, and we are allowed to go to big sporting events & concerts, and now that it is ok to fill our restaurants and bars with patrons, my problem with Midnight Sun is that I still can not go inside the facility with my dog, so that she may get an accurate comprehensive assessment. One with the assistance of MY INPUT and direction into what's going on with my dog Lulu. The lumps that I want assessed are hard to find, and are hidden by her musculature (pitbull). The chance that the assessment/diagnosis with be completely wrong ( thus, the treatment modalities completely wrong) is great. If I was there during the assessment, I'd be able to directly show the staff where the lumps are, ensuring that they are Palpatine the correct areas. There is no chance that I'd leave the exam room without being 100% certain that the treatment ordered was based upon findings discovered with the assistance of me, her owner. My dog is vulnerable enough, not being able to communicate her needs. I am her voice, and it's my responsibility that she gets the best care possible. It's impossible to get the best care in this veterinary office as long as Midnight Sun refuses to allow owners into the exam rooms with their pets. Ultimately, it's up to individual owners to decide if they think an important part of getting their pet an accurate diagnosis (and thus an accurate treatment)relies on the imput of the owner DURING the assessment. I DO; so I choose to go elsewhere, where the owners and presence & imput is considered when developing the treatment plan for their pets, just as caregivers are considered an integral component of a hospice nurses' plan of care for their terminal patients. Side note: the receptionist was very rude on the phone. But that is not what I based this review upon. Thank you.

Midnight Sun Animal hospital is an amazing clinic. Not only were they kind and understanding but they were able to calm me down when I thought one of my cats was having a urinary blockage. The reception staff, technicians, and doctors were all outstanding. Their line of work is very hard emotionally and it takes a special kind of person to handle the trauma they do day after day with a smile on their face. There are only two clinics of their kind in the whole state so they are in very high demand . Unless your pet is in critical condition, be prepared to wait. They are a pillar in the community and we are lucky to have midnight sun animal hospital. Their pricing is fair for an emergency hospital and their communication with their clients is exceptional. Thank you Midnight Sun, hopefully I won’t see you again but if I do I feel confident that my pets will receive the best care there.

We brought our family dog in 3 different times for them to finally remove a lump that was filling with liquid. It literally seemed like they wanted the most money out of us, prolonged our dogs problems for no reason other than "see if it goes away on its own." Just to finally remove it? Any questions we asked got answered wkrh more questions. I will never trust this vet practice ever again.

They don't deserve the bad rep. The tech, I didn't get her name, was so sweet and personable. They did everything they could to make my visit comfortable since I had to say goodbye to my precious baby. I really want to thank her and the vet working tonight

I took my dog to Midnight Sun because I found a porcupine quill in his leg. The techs at Midnight Sun saw him immediately and found additional quills. They were so kind and nice and fast. I cannot recommend this emergency vet hospital enough.
