I was recommended to this office by a happy client. However, I've been on a "waitlist" for nearly 2 years. Half the staff claims there is such a waitlist and the other half has no idea what I'm talking about when I call to get an update. That inconsistency alone earned them 1 star.

The doctors remember my dog Zeke or at least take the time to re-familiarize themselves with his unique issues prior to his visits. Basically excellent personal service!

Highland Animal Clinic is by far the best vet experience I've had. My husky is 4 years old now and I have been taking her to Highland her whole life, They have also seen and treated my cat and another family dog, I have never once had a bad experience there. The staff are wonderful and kind, the Vets are so patient and gentle with my pets. I would 300% recommend Highland if you are looking for a new vet.

have taken my dog there numerous times in the past few years. i had a routine appt scheduled for basic concerns and just prior to appt, my dog's abdomen started to bloat. after the visit, bloodwork was scheduled. i called the next 4 days asking about the prescriptions i had requested. no one said at the time, that bloodwork was required to fill those scripts. and the bloodwork was going to be another visit charge as well. lack of communication. i was not comfortable waiting that long to do bloodwork as i knew something was wrong with my dog. turns out he is dying. found a vet who got us in the same day, did bloodwork the same day, and scheduled x rays and ultrasound tests the next day. and who can communicate. when i complained about the service and communication with staff, jenn calls and leaves me a message that she is firing me as a customer. dont worry jenn, I WOULD NEVER BRING AN ANIMAL TO YOU. you don't care about my animals health or well being. RUN from this clinic.

I take my three dogs to highland animal clinic. We have been through annual check ups, random health problems and even unexpected surgeries. The staff and Dr.’s care for my dogs and always follow up after appointments to confirm their health. They are transparent and consistent with pricing. When appointments are full they are usually able to add me to the cancellation list and get me in as soon as possible. Highly recommend Highland Animal Clinic.

Would not even see me. My account was inactivated am due to length of time from last visit and they won’t see “new” customers. Good luck looking forward help elsewhere.

Couldn't get an appointment because they can't take new clients right now but a lady named Rachael answered the phone and was very helpful and very friendly and took the time to recommend several places to me and explain why everyone is so booked. Thank you Rachael for being so kind. As another clinic I called was extremely rude to me with the same questions. Some people could take a lesson in customer service from you. Again thank you!!!

We have taken our dog here several times throughout the years, and we kept returning because of the quality of veterinarians. I would always walk away feeling like they cared and were professional. That being said, there are issues with the business side of this clinic. The office staff is the worst part of the experience. Typical experience would be I’d come in with my dog, wait 15-20 or so minutes or longer, get a drink for myself and then reuse the cup to offer my dog a drink. A receptionist, would watch and glare at me and state that the cup was only for customers and people only. And that if I wanted a bowl, I should’ve asked. It was awkward and it was incredibly rude. Ok, my dog isn’t a “person” but if I already used the cup, why should reusing a cup even matter? It was just micromanaging and an unnecessary comment. This would happen often, we’d wait so long my dog would get thirsty, and so I’d just bring my own bowl and water because I didn’t want to deal with the office staff. I liked the vets so I just ignored it. When making an appointment at any given time over the years, not including the covid pandemic at all, I always had to wait several days. I never have been able to get a same day or next day appointment. And when our dog was young and healthy that wasn’t a problem. However, we noticed our aging dog was declining in health. One day our dog was vomiting and regurgitating, which was abnormal. I called to schedule an appointment and I would’ve had to wait 5 days for the soonest appointment. I made the appointment and asked the receptionist if I could speak to one of the vets for advice. They suggested that I could call an emergency vet service because none was available. I said I could wait for one to be available or if they could return my call, I honestly just wanted advice on what options could be based on the symptoms by someone that’s actually seen my dog before and not a stranger. The receptionist said that no one was available, and to wait until my appointment. No one called me back. You cannot make an excuse (staffing, covid, etc.) for not having the basic level of decency to take 5 minutes or less to make a phone call. All they had to do is say that they understood what I was going through and what they recommended. That’s it. It left me feeling like because they couldn’t bill me for it, it wouldn’t be worth their time. Deciding that we just couldn’t wait 5 days for an appointment, we made a phone call to another vet that we had never seen before. This really upset me because I felt like I wasted my time building a relationship with Highland Animal Clinic when in the end it didn’t matter. Another vet was willing to meet me after 9-5 hours and saw my dog immediately, no excuses. None. They were extremely professional and did a full x-ray, bloodwork and found my dog was in multiple organ failure. Having an aging dog, anything is a possibility, even though this was unexpected, it explained the symptoms. Our dog was fine, until they weren’t. Understanding that, we made the difficult decision to let our dog go without suffering. The next morning I called to cancel the appointment with Highland Animal Clinic and was asked to explain why I was needing to cancel. Which after just going through a heartbreaking experience, frankly, wasn’t something I wanted to deal with. I explained that my dog had passed away. Then days after I called to update them, I had reminder emails and text messages to both myself and my husband to remind us to bring our dog in for an appointment. I understand that these are automated, but on their end they absolutely should’ve made an attempt to cancel it, given the circumstances. About two weeks later I received a sympathy card from them, which was left me feeling that they cared more about future business rather than my dog. They were not there for me when I needed them the most. They lost my respect and my business.

Bulk my cat and my dog had been in for their yearly checkup, and had received a good health certificate; within 3 weeks I had discovered this was not so. They argued that these were new symptoms, impossible due to progression.. made a new appointment, which they canceled with out notice; to our detriment as this was an ASAP appointment. My pets, our family's health was worth more than that. This is not the same clinic as the one I grew up with Would give it zero stars but you have to give it at least one to leave a review.

We have been taking our pets, dogs and cats, to Highland Animal Clinic for years. Dr. Jenn and her entire team is caring, responsive and highly professional. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a vet for their fur babies.

Beest possible animal Care. Dr. Jen is skilled and respectful of an owner's values. Too many vets will attempt to shame an owner into expensive care. Dr.. Jen gave options and listened.

I have been a loyal customer since we moved to anchorage over 4 years ago. Until my dog developed a serious illness and couldn’t get an appointment when I really needed one most! I was told to go to the pet emergency. What is the point of developing a relationship With your vet when you can’t get an urgent appointment for 6 days?

Highland has been my veterinarian of choice for years. They took excellent care of both of my cats from the time I got each of them up until both died from natural causes. They are always caring and knowledgeable. When my youngest cat was sick near the end of her life, they advised me how best to make her comfortable and taught me tip and tricks to get her to eat and deficate when both of those were difficult for her. When I ended up with a dog, I had no question in my mind of where I would get her taken care of; all her care is also done her. They get an A+ for taking care of her and her nails. She's a Manchester Terrier and very, very nervous about getting nail trims. She squirms and yelps like it's the end of the world but the vet here always manages to get them taken care of and has only nicked her quick once (and we've done this dozens on times). Overall 5/5. Highland is everything I could ask for in a vet. So long as I am in Anchorage, Highland will be my vet of choice.

Everything was great! Your family has taken care of our fur babies since 1996 and we trust you with their care. Even during this difficult pandemic time, everything was handled with compassion and safety and I'm grateful to continue our partnership in the care of our critters!

One really has to trust staff in these corona 19 days. One drops off your dog at the door then come back to claim when done. Shadow ended up with an eye destroying problem which lead to surgery, eye removal. I had to trust that he would receive good care while I waited at home. I'm grateful that vet clinics are able to figure out ways to keep their staff safe, yet meet emergency issues for our animals.

We have been going to Highland Animal Clinic for decades. Dr. Jen Tuomi is wonderful as was her father before her. Dr. Krellner seems like the same sort of personable and helpful vet that fits with the practice. The Covid protocols are very good and I feel very safe dropping off my pets to have them looked at, even if I am not allowed in the clinic. The techs and vets and office staff are all friendly and helpful and even my very nervous rescue dog was happy to going in and coming out. The staff said they had no problems with her which says so much about how wonderful they are.
