5 stars is not enough. The volunteers and employees of the Dane Co Humane Society are fantastic. They were patient and kind with our whole family and helped us to find a new family member that is an amazing fit. We would recommend them whole heartedly.

With Covid their day to day operations are more difficult. The dog we wanted to see was not available even though we called before driving over. They are doing their best.

the dog we adopted kept attacking everyone in the family for 2 months. Now the dog tries to attack people and dogs that walk near her or in her view it’s very aggressive And if the dog is a leash puller they tell you when they give you the leash right when your about to leave

We spent the last week trying to capture a stray or feral cat, and he managed to get out of a live trap, several times. The DCHS was understanding of the fact that we could not set up an appointment for bringing in the cat, which we were finally able to capture. We called and said we were on the way, with my husband holding the trap closed! They were very nice, got the intake done quickly, thanked us for calling. We made a donation in appreciation for the work they do there. Thank you!

They are generally friendly when you walk in and seem to really care for their animals. They have trouble answering the phone and keeping appointments.

Was a Volunteer with the Cats for about 3 yrs and couldnt have asked for a better experience. The Staff and Volunteers work together for the best outcome for the resident animals. We even adopted a cat(Ms.Bubbles) from DCHS after we had to say goodbye to my 19 y/ o we hard since she was a baby. And a little girl(kitten) who had a hard start in her life captured my heart and we adopted her that weekend, now she is spoiled rotten for the rest of her life and will never have to worry about anything again. I will definitely adopt from DCHS again after volunteering there

I was very disappointed to hear that the Dane County Humane Society only pays their frontline employees $11/hr. With the high cost of living in Dane County, this is absolutely not a living wage, and certainly not enough for the hard work these folks do.

Very clean facility. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We came home with Casmo. He was in the back because of social issues. He is one of the most friendly and obedient dogs we have ever had. We are so glad we came to the clear the shelter event.

Sooo cute. I couldn't adopt day of because of councilors not beingg open. They would get a lot more adoptions if they didn't have that block but its understandable to make sure you get the right animals

Like the policy of allowing petfinders to directly contact the losing owners So they can be reunited without going through the shelter and thus being charged like they are in Rock County.

Very friendly and helpful staff, called about a pet bunny that we found and they provided us with things to last a few days until they could take him in.

This place is wonderful. The staff are amazing and of course they love what they do and show it. We delivered a van full of puppies and dogs for the GBHS. They now have a better chance to find their furever loving homes.

I volunteered here for several months. Even though I wore a name tag, I was never acknowledged. What they really needed me for was washing dishes and doing laundry. I would get about one hour with the cats (couldn't spend time with the dogs if you were assigned to the cats), but not all of them. No kittens, and others were off limits. I also collected supplies from my co-workers during the Christmas season. I had several large containers, which I was told to put in a corner. Never even a thank you. One other time I brought in an old dog...a stray I found on the road. I asked if they would keep me informed if he was to be eurhsnized, but they said that would cost me $35-- for a phone call!! I called every day and he was being evaluated, or undergoing tested, until the day they said, "Oh, we had to put him down." I would never adopt from there or advise anyone else to do so. They are all about the $$. I have talked to others who feel the same.

I have adopted two great dogs from them. They do a great job taking care of the animals and making sure the right animal is going home with the right people. What they don’t do well is communicate. I had a follow up question for a dog I recently adopted and I couldn’t get anyone on the phone. I waited on hold for 3 hours, I left 3 voicemails, and nobody seems interested in talking with me. It makes no sense, when I was there adopting the dog, everyone just stands around talking; are you telling me none of these fine folks can pick up a phone? I live an hour away, I can’t just drive over and ask you a 10 second question.
