I called today to schedule an appointment for my dog who has an open wound on his ear. The receptionist who I talked to told me that the vet won't be back until next Monday and left it at that. I see online that they have a traveling vet and it says if my dog is sick I can contact them if I am willing to travel to Round Hill to their office there. This was not an option presented to me when talking to the receptionist despite the fact I used the words "open wound". I have been taking both my dogs here over the past year and not had a bad experience until now but this one really leaves me puzzled.

I’ve been bringing my puppy there since he was young the only vet he’s knows and my partner really use to like them…Until I went back recently I made an appointment for a flea treatment I get there and they do not have any more flea treatments. The whole reason for my dogs appointment they also quoted me the wrong price over the phone . The appointment had been made almost 2-3 weeks in advance. The tech says they’ve never seen my dog I told her that’s definitely a lie he was there just last year. Again the only vet he’s been to since he was born. At the end of all of it I asked the vet to make up for their mistake and at least write me a prescription l. At petco or something for my dog needing a flea treatment then wait 2 weeks. The rest of what they did doesn’t really matter because I still left without the entirety of what I made the appointment for. Also I feel as if it’s a little bit cheap my dog got his rabies vaccine as well. I’ve always heard you get a card or some type of documentation. The only proof I have is his invoice, even my mother told me her vet gave her a dog tag for shorkie as certification in public. In the beginning when they came out for him he was happy to meet them. When me and the tech were discussing the multiple issues I had experienced upon arrival. My dog being a good dog could see my distress. Was then not comfortable with the tech and repeatedly barked. The tech then mocked my dog with “you’re barky” etc. I understand it has been a while since I was last there, they had different staff etc. but I will not be coming back ever! I even called another vet right after and explained the experience. She even said that was weird that they ran out of the flea treatment, and the fact they refused to write me a prescription.

I would not recommend house paws to my worst enemy. Be warned. We have been going to House Paws for almost a year now for our dog and we have not had a single good encounter with them. The techs are very courteous and nice with our dog. Every other aspect of this place was a nightmare. -After every single visit we are required to have the same mediation and after every visit we wait a week only to call and find out that they never even ordered the medication. Medication that they are very adamant that she must take every day. -They do not work with online pharmacies so you will end up paying their price for whatever medication you need. They will tell you that they will price match but they do not. You can get better discounts online. -When they finally do get the medication they tell us that the medication was shipped to their round hill location and we must pick it up there or wait again for it to be sent to Winchester. That has happened Every. Single. Time... - They are unwilling to talking about any alternative options. We have to pay an unbelievable amount and medication and blood work a year and when I say that we will not be able to afford it and ask for help on finding another solution I was told by the veterinarian “if you can’t do what I tell you to do then maybe you should put her up for adoption”. Who is going to adopt a 9 year old dog with a chronic medical condition that requires thousands of dollars a year in vet bills?!? -after dealing with them for long enough I have decided to go somewhere else. I have asked for my dogs medical records multiple times and have still yet to receive them. I do not doubt that some people have a reasonable experience, but with the amount of other veterinary clinics around I wouldn’t risk it. ***their response to this review says that they did gave a price $2 cheaper than what you can find online. That is true, BUT that is the only time they actually price matched because they were well over a week late writing our prescription. We did not order meds any other time from House Paws because our old vet was able to write us a prescription that we could use online based on the blood work that house paws did. The only reason we did use House Paws prescription the final time was because our dog didn’t have her medication for over a week due to their incompetence. I also did not receive a medical record until after writing this review. Yesterday was not the first time asking for the records, and even if they were not aware I was told I would get them by COB yesterday.

$400 to get 3 rescue kittens seen for earmites. Dr.Smidtt is great and needs to find a better clinic to work for. The owner is terrible, I sent many referrals here and have since told everyone I know how nasty the owner is, take a 30 minute drive and save yourself $300 and support a vet clinic that isn't over priced.

The most unorganized group of people I’ve ever done business with in my entire life. Trying to schedule an appointment with this place is like pulling teeth. They never respond, and if you are lucky to get an appointment, they forget it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt after first bad experience and went back for the boosters a month later. I called when I arrived to let them know I was in the parking lot. I sat in my car waiting 45 minutes and no one came out. I got tired of waiting and went home. They eventually called an hour or so later to remind me I had an appointment that day. I told them I was there earlier fir my appointment but got tired of waiting and I’d never be back. My sister in law also used them a time or two and had a bad experience. They wanted to nickel and dime her to death over unnecessary testing. I DO NOT recommend this place!

Probably one of the worse experience I ever had. First thing you need to know before taking your pet is that they do not care about your pet's health as long they are getting your money. Every time I suspected something was wrong with my dog I had to figure out on my own and yet they charge $51 to examine your dog and yet they are still not able to find out before you when you pet needs care. My dog was a patient for almost a year and they failed to follow simple instructions multiple times like emailing invoices with correct service dates, upon each visit ( for insurance reimbursement purposes) to missing a fecal example that I personally dropped off at their Winchester location. After ten months later I was told they never got it. Not even single call was ever made to us to follow up after a visit. I decided to give them one more opportunity and scheduled with them a dental cleaning which was extremely expensive. I dropped off my dog at 8:30 A.M ( following their instructions of not feeding my dog food from the night before from 9:00 P.M until the dental cleaning was done. After seven hours of not knowing how my dog was I decided to contact them and finally after a few calls they answered and they told me " they had an emergency and they were not able to do the cleaning for my dog". I was very upset that my dog had to be on an empty stomach for seven hours and if it wasn't for my call my dog probably would had to be there even longer. From the receptionist to the doctor their stuff is extremely rude and almost ninety percent of time they don't have a clue what your dog is supposed to get done without you repeating to them multiple times. If you want to find a place that really cares about your pet and not just your money please DO NOT GO HERE .

I took my dog in there a few months ago for bladder control issues. They immediately wanted to run a bunch of tests, which I was happy to do because they advised that it was necessary. They ran up the bill hundreds of dollars assuring me that it was all necessary testing. I followed up a few days later for results and a plan of action. The vet advised that everything was good to go, the tests came back fine so nothing needed to happen further. I advised the vet that my dog is still having bladder control issues, so something is wrong and needed to be addressed. The vet then admitted that she did not do an initial physical assessment and proceeded to do one out in the parking lot without gloves, which took a whole two seconds for her to write a rx for antibiotics and wipes. Honestly, I think she realized she messed up and was just trying to appease me at that point. I was irritated because had the vet informed me that a physical assessment had not been completed, I would have never agreed to all of the unnecessary testing that cost hundreds of dollars. Regardless, I took the wipes and medication and tried it for the prescribed timeframe, since my dog was still having issues. The medication and wipes did not work, the vet misdiagnosed my dog yet again and I'm $600+ in the hole for treatment that did nothing. I called and tried to reason with the staff, the vet eventually got on the phone and was very unprofessional and unwilling to adjust the bill. I ended up moving, going to a local vet, they diagnosed it immediately and prescribed a medication that resolved the issue right away, that whole visit and medication was $150, they were not rude or unprofessional and they did not try to hussle me out of more money or more unnecessary treatments. I also filled a billing dispute with the credit card company, who reimbursed me for almost the entire amount from House Paws, as they deemed the bill illegitimate due to how they handled the whole transaction. This incident could have been a one time thing, everyone has bad days and things happen, but the vet being that unprofessional tells me this isn't the first time or last time this will happen at this business.

Favorite vet and vet staff so far. Very attentive to my animal extremely knowledgeable staff. Our poor kitten we found had seen another vet at the beginning of the month I asked them to look at his eyes he didnt seem right. That vet said he was completely fine. 2 weeks later we decide to switch up vets looking for better care this vet recognized the signs and symptoms of him having a respiratory issue which was coming out in the eyes. They prescribed us the right meds after a day you could tell he felt much better. They even emailed me the following day to see how he was feeling. We are so happy to have found House of Paws!!

I've utilized House Paws mobile care before but I needed to have one of my cats seen quickly so I booked an appointment at this office since it is the closest to my home. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and my kitty loved them. Excellent service overall and the office is easy to get to.

The front desk here are very kind and accommodating. My experience with Dr. Schmid was not the best, unfortunately. My older dog is a patient here so naturally when I got a puppy, I brought him to House Paws as well. My prior experience with House Paws was good, but this visit, we saw a different doctor and it was not the same high quality of the previous one. Due to Covid, they were doing curbside visits. They came and got my pup, and brought him back in less than 5 minutes. It was $150 and they had no communication about the visit. They called the next day stating that they didn't record his weight, so I had to bring him back out during the stay at home orders. Due to this inconvenience, the front desk nicely offered a credit, which Dr. Schmid quickly rescinded. She was not very pleasant on the phone, and left me a very unprofessional voice mail about how Winchester is "expensive," and that prices change all the time, so they can't accurately provide estimates before visits. I know all vets prices differ, but blaming high prices simply based on being in Winchester isn't really accurate. My two dogs will be going somewhere with more transparent practices in the future.

Dr. Knode and her staff have been taking care of my pets for 10+ years, first as the mobile unit when we lived in Ashburn and now that we live in Winchester. The mobile unit is fantastic for fearful dogs, or injured dogs. The office team at Winchester are amazing and so wonderful to my ailing pups. Thanks so much for all the good work!

Our dog was attacked by another dog that slipped its lead one early morning in mid-December, 2019. We initially took him to Valley Vet Emergency Care on Costello Drive. He received life-saving care there through emergency surgery. Our aftercare has been with our home vet, House Paws. In the 3wks since surgery, Dr. Schimd, Maggie, Chelsea, and the rest of the staff at House Paws have been extremely attentive. Bedside manner counts for pets and their owners. The House Paws staff are genuinely caring and engaged. They really want the best outcome possible for the pet. We take our two cats here, also. The experience in caring for our gentle, giant greyhound has been great, really. There is a difference!

We went here on very short notice. They were able to fit us right in. This is a new vet, no affiliation to the last one who was here. My dog can have a lot of anxiety when going to the vet and they were very attentive to that... getting right down to her level and providing a lot of loving attention to try and keep her calm. I would go back again with my pups!
