A few of the staff members would benefit by working on their manners and the way they treat people.

This is the first time I have ever been here! I went with my friend to adopt a Huskie that was apparently dropped off in the middle of the night by someone that didn’t want him anymore. My friend brought her dog to meet the huskie and make sure they get along. The people that were working were very nice and helpful and the whole process of paperwork was like 15-20 minutes!

I’d found two kittens and one had a wound on its neck. I’m no vet and I didn’t want to see it in pain so I scooped them up and I figured their ONLY hope was the BCHS. Sure enough they took them in and found that it was a warble. Got them to a vet to get cared for. Now these two have a chance for a loving home! They’re such brave little kittens and already been through so much, I can’t even imagine. They were so worried about each other and so loving when I was able to gather them both and get them back together. Such love and caring from one another, I know they’ll make great cats for whomever adopts them. Thank you BCHS! Your the best!!

This has been one of the easiest pet adoptions I've had in my entire life. I have four cats and just got one cute kitty from them.

Do not bother calling this place. They cannot do anything for you unless you are physically there and ready to adopt right that second. We called twice to adopt two different dogs at two different times, when we got there 30 mins later each time, they were gone.

I appreciate what every humane society does for its community animals, and everyone at this location was very friendly and nice. But there are some serious issues. I adopted a kitten from here a few days ago. Cages and cat room were clean. The kitten I chose was labeled as being in another cage so they weren't sure of the identity at first. We figured it out. They told me he was a stray boy. I went and told the front desk I wanted to adopt him. They had me fill out paperwork, including the name of my vet and the owner of the house I live in. They called neither to verify anything, and they didn't run a background check. I mentioned the kitten sounded wheezy. The front desk woman didn't seem surprised. She handed me a bottle of antibiotics and a syringe and gave me verbal instructions, once. There was no label on the bottle with instructions, nor paper with them written down in my paperwork. Thankfully I'm used to handling meds for cats so I remembered what she said. I don't know if she would have given me the antibiotics if I hadn't mentioned the wheezing myself. I paid (cost included 1st distemper and deworming, and future neutering) and we left with the kitten. Again, no checks of any kind before I was able to walk out with an animal. Really concerning. We realized on the way home they didn't tell us what type of food they were giving the kittens. We tried calling but the phone line was down so we had to call the neuter clinic and then text someone to get an answer. We got home and I noticed that the wheezing was getting worse, with the kitten frequently having to breathe through his mouth. I set up an emergency appt at my vet the next morning. The vet uncovered some glaring issues. One, my kitten is a girl, not a boy. They took one look at her bits and were able to tell. That the humane society got this wrong isn't reassuring. Two, my kitten had fleas, which nobody informed me of at any time. She had a lot of flea dirt on her (something I didn't know how to look for) and some live ones on her tummy. The tech spotted this extremely quickly. Both vet and tech were shocked and concerned as I told them my experience. All this being said, BCHS really does seem to care for their animals and getting them homes. But not being able to correctly sex cats, not telling adopters about fleas, not providing medication instructions or dietary information, not making sure adopters are able and suited to adopt- all of these are problems that put the animals and the adopters at risk. I love my little girl and I don't regret adopting her, but I won't be taking her here to get spayed even though I already paid for it, because their vet staff competence is questionable.

Such an amazing place!!! We had a horrible day, and went up there out of the blue to see if any of their pups would help brighten up our day. IT DID!!! And we adopted a sweet baby girl!!! Thank you guys so much for turning our horrible day, into such a spectacular day!!!

So sad to see so many animals that are homeless. I visit from time to time to see the dogs and visit the cat room. They do spaying and neutering at a decent price. If you're at a store for your cat/dog grab a couple extra things and donate them.
