The team at North Oatlands Animal Hospital is very nice and took great care of my dog. The facility is nice as well.

Apparently they have lunch hours they do not advertise or tell you about. So when you arrive to pick up your animal from boarding, you have to wait until they turn their phones back on to call them so you can let them know you are here to get your dog

I believe in giving people/businesses the benefit of the doubt, so delayed in writing a review. However, more than sufficient time has passed for this business to make things right, and that has not been attempted. In summary, take your pet somewhere else! This practice offers the worst customer experience and has demonstrated that they are all about the money, not about the animals. I hope this review saves many people from a similar terrible experience. I visited this practice in early September with a young dog who was coughing. When making the appointment, I asked if a confirmation consultation appointment could be combined with this one. I was told "I don't see why not." When arrived for our appointment, I was surprisingly told that my pet must enter the building through the back to prevent the potential spread of germs and that I could not enter that way. Instead, I would be met at the locked front door and escorted to her within a few minutes. I reluctantly agreed, understanding the need to keep other animals safe, and let my pet be taken. After several minutes of waiting at the locked door I was met by a hostile employee who announced that I had been told when I made the appointment that I could not enter the building. When I replied that I had not been told that, she responded very curtly that I had been told and that it was "in my record". I asked "what record?" She responded, "in the call record". I assured her that I was not told this, and that I would not have made the appointment if I had known this. She kept angrily telling me that I had been told. I looked at her and said "I am not lying." Regretfully, I agreed to let the vet see my pet without me present and worried for nearly an hour waiting for an update. That is a ridiculous amount of time to wait and worry, not knowing what is going on with your pet. The vet finally called saying they were going to run a scan and test for kennel cough. After that, I was presented with a bill for more than $580 including a $195 "total health (SuperChem/CBC)", a $210 "respiratory disease PCR-K9" and meds. As it had been nearly an hour and a half at this point that my pet had been in there, I asked for her to be returned to me. I believe in fear-free veterinary care, and it was a shock to me that my young dog had undergone a blood draw without me present. (I'm a board-certified dog trainer and I take my pets' care very seriously. I was told they would bring her right out. Also, not understanding what the PCR-K9 line item was, I asked for an explanation. I waited and waited in the parking lot...no pet. My agitation was above and beyond by now. Finally, I was met at their front door by their head of operations who accused me of yelling and swearing at other customers across the parking lot. UNBELIEVABLE! I never swore or even raised my voice to their staff, and certainly didn't interact with their customers. I have never in my life been treated with such unconscionable behavior. Their customer service is sorely lacking, and their manner of communicating is to accuse and attack first. I asked this man to please return my pet to me. Instead, he said he wanted to discuss the bill. It was quickly clear to me, after he had told me that this must not be the "value proposition" I expected, that this was all about money and a show of safety/sanitary procedures. This was further confirmed later when I was permitted in the building and met by a staff member improperly wearing a mask. As a recurring client who has spend a significant amount of money here (we've had two of our females laparoscopically spayed by Dr. Rickard), I am mortified by how poorly I was treated at this visit. No attempt was made afterwards to rectify the situation. I was told they would review their phone records to see what I was told when I first made the appointment. And, that I would have lab results the next week. No one called to follow up or report on the lab results. I had to call them, well after the deadline, to get lab results. Their response: We must have called the wrong number. Sure...

My 1-year old puppy came home very sick with diarrhea, vomiting and lethargic. Do not send your pets there.

We use North Oatlands for their reproductive services primarily. We have had OFA testing done with them (and they offer PennHip as well) as well as care for our dam during pregnancy. We even had them spay our senior dog when no one else in the area would! That’s actually how we found them, and our girl is thriving in her golden years. I haven’t seen the inside of their new facility due to COVID but I’ve always had good experiences here. Pleasant staff and reasonable prices for the area (and considering their speciality in reproductive care). I would definitely recommend them to others for their veterinary care.

NOAH is simply the best Reproduction and General/Surgical Vet in this area. We trust all our Bernese Mountain Dogs to their care, and we have a LOT of them. NOAH has been our only Vet since 2005 and we refer all of our puppy people to them

My dog had what looked like an open wound on his side, North Oatlands Animal Hospital got me in quicker than anyone else in the area. It turned out to be a cyst that might have required surgery but they cleaned it out and closed it up, This was all done while they gave my 110 lb Akita peanut butter through his muzzle. He is not the easiest patient but other than peanut butter all over the Vet techs scrubs, the whole procedure went smoothly. My dog does not do well with antibiotics so they gave him an antibiotic injection normally used on cats and priced by weight, needless to say the antibiotic for my dog was pricey but well-worth not having him get sick and it worked...all closed up nicely and no surgery to remove cyst was needed. Had two different vets, one female, one male and both were really good with my big boy. I would highly recommend this vet practice! They definitely know what they are doing and gave me options that I needed to avoid having a super sick dog.

Great place that cares about your pet! Wonderful staff and Dr. Rickard is very good! Highly recommend! We drove 1.5 hours to get a second opinion from Dr. Rickard and it truly put our mind at ease. Staff was wonderful with our ariedale terrier, Scout.

I usually groom my dog Frank at home because I had previously taken him to other groomers and they always had such a difficult time with him. However, I've gotten so busy with work that I'm not able to do this anymore. I brought him to North Oatlands because I thought they might have to give him a sedative. But to my surprise, I found out that they had no issues with Frank and that he was just a little nervous during the groom. He was very calm, happy, and looked ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE when I picked him up. He looked the best I've ever seen him after taking him to the groomers. They are BY FAR THE BEST GROOMERS! I will be taking him back in about 4 weeks. The picture I uploaded doesn't do Frank justice. If you're looking for a groomer take your dog or cat here!

Dr Rickard and her staff are outstanding. We live in Hagerstown, MD but our breeder, Debi Durst, recommended it was worth the trip for our 3 Miniature Schnauzers to go there after we had a bad vet experience in our area. We would not go anywhere else because of our great experiences with them. Rosie would have died several years ago had it not been for Dr Rickard's knowledge and expertise. All 3 of our dogs fight to see who can get in their door first. How often do you see dogs that love to go to the vet? All the staff are friendly, caring and love animals. Dr Rickard gives them Cheese Wiz when they are getting shots so, according to Dr Rickard, they have a positive experience and aren't afraid to come to her office. The doctors do not hesitate to consult with other specialists or experts, and they have even called the vets at dog food companies to verify best type of food for Rosie's medical issues. I can't say enough good things about them. Thanks to all the staff.

Terrible dental surgery experience. Uninstructive discharge instructions. No vet on call after hours to call for info on discharge instructions. Didn't answer phone for an entire Monday when calling for Saturday urinalysis results. Total disaster. Story goes: Surgery for pet that required meds on discharge. No discharge instructions that said when he had last meds, but instructed us to give meds every 12 hours (from when???). I call that evening to find out last time he had meds, no one on on-call duty at the clinic - a generic 911 emergency option. So worried about our pup, estimated when he may have had the 3 meds... no clue... give dog all meds as instructed. Dog puking next day. Tell us to bring in. Run another $250 in tests to tell us his kidneys are showing distress. Dr. Nelson who sounded 22 years old was defensive to all my concerns that he was OD'd because we didn't receive any discharge med info, because she "was not the one who did surgery." Literally, all she cared about was that she was not at fault and I had to say, let's move forward with what needs to be done. Then she insisted our dog be injected with more meds because he had thrown up and his blood tests said kidney toxicity. Said no, he's reacting to something so no more meds. Took him back next day for urinalysis. Told me on Monday, docs would decide if he needed intervention. No vet called, I called twice with not even an answering machine. .I have interacted with 3 vets in one week of post-op visits. They all evaluated our dog differently with different levels of concern. Dr. Nelson being the most dramatic with insistent (I think) unnecessary treatment. Other two vets seemed super competent, tried to make it right, but didn't really follow through on care - and concerned they had totally different concerns/opinions of his status. Seeking 2nd opinion elsewhere. Would never go back to this place - much better at Leesburg Vet Clinic or Old Mlll. Satellite office of their original clinic and it shows. But the outside is pretty. Will say, the male vet has amazing bedside manners. The older female vet took a great interest in our dog's condition, but not enough to ensure we'd receive a call (and they didn't answer their phones 2 x I called same day). No.

This was my first visit, everyone was kind and polite. They were still practicing under covid protocol but kept me informed during the entire visit. They did a great follow-up job with post appointment information. I highly recommend.

I needed a vet familiar with Bulldogs as the vet I had been taking him too was not educated about the breed and not providing the care Bulldogs need. After a lot of research on vets, this place was highly rated for Bulldog care. I then reached out to a fellow Bulldog owner to ask where she took her dogs, she said North Oatlands. Great decision! They are super friendly, fast at responding to emails, phone calls and answering any questions. Dr. Wallace has been phenomenal.

RUN AWAY! Unprofessional, rude, incompetence, and price gauging is what you can expect if you bring your animal to this vet. We've been going to this vet since we moved here a few years ago. Started off fine, however, in the past year it has quickly declined. The most recent and final straw, was trying to get my female Bully in to be spayed. The Vet recommended to wait until after her first heat. Which come to find out is not good for the dog and she is now at a higher risk to develop breast cancer. The Vet claimed that it is more beneficial for the female dog to wait, however, that theory has been disproven and is not recommended by most Vets. We had asked for a quote on a laparoscopic spay procedure in September. 2 weeks later we finally received a quote. At the time we tried to schedule the procedure for the beginning of December since she had already gone into heat, which we were told they couldn't schedule it that far out and that we'd have to wait until October to schedule the procedure. Come October we scheduled the procedure for mid December. We received a call at the end of November saying that the Vet that was going to do the procedure had scheduled something else on the date we originally booked the procedure and that they needed to bump the surgery. When we called back they gave us two dates, December 22 or December 29. Upset about the bump, but we wanted to get the dog in before the end of the year and definitely before she went through yet another heat cycle, so we rescheduled for December 29. We just received, November 30, another unsolicited "quote" from North Oatlands that was, of course, higher than the original quote. When I called to find out why we were receiving another quote they claimed that the procedure, that we had scheduled for over a month prior, was tagged as laparoscopic procedure and that we were only quoted for a standard spay. I informed the tech that we had always been asking for a laparoscopic procedure and that was what my dog was scheduled for to begin with. I confirmed this with the tech when I had to reschedule the procedure 2 weeks prior. When I asked why we were just now getting this quote instead of back in September, the answer was "I don't know". Additionally, the line item pricing had also been raised and there were additional charges that were not on the original quote. When questioned about the line item pricing I was given the answer that it was due to my dogs age. My dog is two months older, 1yr 1 month, from when I first received the initial quote! How is age even a factor at this point? I will not be taking either of my dogs back to this establishment at this point nor will I ever consider recommending this vet. Quite the opposite. The clear inconsistencies with pricing, rude techs, and just overall incompetents of the staff here is overwhelming. It's clear that they are more concerned about charging you for anything they can think of and not the care of your animal, which is in line with the statements that previous employees have stated in online reviews of this place, as well. And the fact that this is supposed to be a reproductive Vet is alarming with how they have handled my female dog.

I came from out of state for reproductive services and was very happy how everything was handled. Good communication, service, very efficient and responsive. Jaime was VERY helpful, professional and took extra time to answer my questions, making sure I understood my options. That kind of service creates loyalty! Thank you so much for a GREAT experience!

The care that I received from both Dr. Wallace and Dr. Rickard for my pets has been outstanding. The support staff is also very helpful. I was also amazed at the supplements I was sent home to get my litter off to a great start.

I am VERY happy with Oatlands Animal Hospital. The stall was polite, professional, and helpful. I am especially pleased with Dr. Rickard. I live out of state, and Dr. Rickard was the only Vet who was, not only familiar with my dog's injury, but has a ready solution. 2 thumbs up for Oatland Animal Hospital. Highly recommended.

The staff is courteous and friendly and the vets exceptionally knowledgeable, helpful and always explain the procedure. Dr. RIckard was wonderful with my girl and facilitated my questions in a open manner. Unlike many vets who are put off by a client asking questions, she was very open and answered them completely and honestly. Highly recommend this practice!

I have a wonderful Airedale that was bred by Dr Rickard. He is now 9 years old and suddenly became very ill. He was treated at the emergency vet clinic here in Sarasota FL and then I contacted Dr Rickard who reviewed all test results and did a phone consult with me that was most helpful with information I could discuss with my local vet. She breeds wonderful dogs and it was so nice to see the concern and care even after nine years!

We went to Dr. Valeria Rickard to assist us in getting Willow her laparoscopic spay. I wouldn't hesitate to get this done again. It went so smoothly and really does make a difference for your dog's health and recovery. She is the only one in our county I believe that does the laparoscopic procedures. It is amazing. Very courteous staff and Dr. Rickard is awesome! Very pleasant experience for my husband, myself and Willow too.
