Avian and Exotic Veterinary Care Portland, Washington

The absolute only reason I am not rating five stars is because of the cost of the exam. It was $170 for an “urgent care” exam and I’m just not sure I agree that two days out from my initial inquiry constitutes urgent care. But they took great care of my chicken. The vet tech and vet were awesome and explained everything they did and saw and treated the wound beautifully. I appreciate the care they showed towards her and hopefully I won’t need to go back, but I definitely will if the occasion arises!

Brought my 41yr old Amazon Parrott in for a check-up. Declan, the Vet assistant was si good and the Dr. Was very friendly and did a complete exam. I was very impressed by all aspects of this visit.

Staff is awesome!!! They took wonderful care of our Red Crowned Amazon Parrot. Only place I trust with our parrot.

Have owned guinea pigs for only a short while and took all four of them here for first checkups. Was a reasonable price and quick turnaround time (and the piggies were praised for their cuteness which always feels good.)

They promised to get ahold of us if our turtle passed away they did not and was very rude when explaining why not !

I took my bird there and the receptionist did not want to see it. My bird had an appointment on Sep. 18. I took him on Friday because he already looked bad and they didn't receive me. My cocktail is dead now. I sent them a message via messenger a long time ago and they never responded. Now you tell me that you would have sent them a message if the previous one I never had an answer.

Our hedgehogs have received excellent care here. I have also appreciated the COVID safety protocols the office has kept in place throughout the pandemic.

My pigeon had an appointment here. My best friend had to take Pancake to the appointment. The staff were very nice, patient and accommodating. They were very knowledgeable and respectful to what my bird needed and how to be patient with them.

Wonderful staff, they have taken care of our bearded dragon several times with professional care. The boarding process is easy and they were kind enough to let me book one last minute! The doctors have been very good as well.

They are awesome.very caring for both birds and owners????and they r very knowledgeable about their job! Not all vets really know or care about what they do but these ladies were awesome

Took my Budgie here and he received excellent care. I was kept updated on everything and the staff where so friendly and caring and you can tell that the people who work here really love and care about your pets.

Dr. Gibson was VERY helpful at explaining what they observed with my chickens. I was supposed to only bring the one but I decided to bring another in case the first wouldn't cooperate and they gave them both a check-up which was very nice. They discussed possible ways of moving forward and how it would work, very informative. They couldn't give an exact time for how long the check-up would be but I get that they might have some unexpected things happen and they did give me an estimate. I see a lot of people complaining about making an appointment and how long the wait time is but it's not their fault that they are in such high demand. Please don't take your pet to them if it's in an emergency and then complain about them being callous by not seeing your pet without an appointment in the reviews. I had to book the appointment about 6 weeks in advance and I think it was worth it.

Very thorough, I know my bunny is getting the best care possible.

Amazing clinic! They have cared for our panther chameleon, bearded dragon, and Russian tortoise. Every time we have come in with a problem, they have solved it. Very clean place, kind staff, overall best vet experience for exotics!

A++! I am a dog/cat vet that had to retire early due to disability. I have a very keen interest in exotic med, and at one point had hoped to pursue ABVP's specialization in Reptile/Amphibian, so I am VERY picky about where I will take my exotics for veterinary care. I have a large leopard gecko collection, and many of them are 15+ years old. I started taking my geckos to them just after covid-19 initially spread throughout the USA, so all my services thus far have been provided in a curbside fashion, with most communication occurring via email or phone. Long story short, I give Avian and Exotic Veterinary Care my full endorsement. I am a very high maintenance owner that is very attached to my pets, and they have handled that with grace and compassion. They have dealt with me crying countless times, and they have never made me feel badly if I wasn't able to do something because of my disability or finances. They have performed 3 surgeries on my pets, several other procedures (including euthanasia), and quite a lot of diagnostics, and every time I have reviewed their work and found it to meet my high standards. If you are looking for an exotics veterinarian, you need not look any further. Avian and Exotic Veterinary Care is the way to go! A++!!

I had to go to them for an autopsy on my Hamster, Gimlet, and they were very comforting and answered all my questions. They even sent me a handwritten condolences card signed by everyone afterward. Will defiantly be going there in the future for any other needs. Hopefully under less grim circumstances.

Dr. Harrenstien has provided excellent care for our rabbits and all of the support staff has been equally fabulous. We have visited multiple times during COVID-19 and the flow and communication during curbside appointments has been top notch. I am a veterinarian myself and I fully trust Avian and Exotic Veterinary Care, only the best for my buns!

10/10 my bearded dragon loves it there.

Very empathetic vets; very reasonable prices; High demand for their services though, so appointments have to be made far in advance. But if its an emergency and the vet has the capacity, they will get you in asap.

Everyone here is knowledgeable and will keep your little reptiles happy and healthy!

I have always been satisfied and impressed with the level of care provided to my pet birds. I switched to this clinic last year and will always be back - their thoroughness and compassion is unmatched! Kind, very knowledgeable people - special thanks to Dr. Rose, Dr. Mattucks, Dr. Harrenstien and Rachel (CVT). Highly recommend.

We take our rabbit there for her annual checkups. Everyone has been lovely and professional and smart and great to work with. They are practicing curbside services for the pandemic, but it went smoothly and well. Definitely a great place to bring your exotic animal family member!

These people are amazing. They removed a bullet from my duck's leg where it had been shot and she is now coming along wonderfully! This is the most caring veterinarian hospital I have ever gone to and if you have exotics or birds of almost any kind, I highly recommend them.
