Horrible experience. My dog went in for a simple nail trim and came out traumatized and had his nails butchered. We have been dealing with a hurt paw and blood all over our house. Won't ever be back!

I had to have my dog Wrigley put down yesterday. Uptown always takes great care and compassion. It was painless and Dr. Whistler and the whole staff genuinely cared for him down to the last second. I highly recommend this veterinarian office. For decades they have taken great care of my families animals. Your pet is in skilled and loving hands here.

The staff at Uptown Animal Hospital was always very helpful and nice. I ended up leaving to follow my vet (who moved to a new clinic), but just want to give a shout out to all the admin and vet techs who make things run smoothly! <3

I've been going to Uptown Animal Hospital for over 14 years now. Even when I lived in the south side I would drive to the other side of the city. They have taken care of all my fur babies so well I can't imagine going anywhere else. It's hard to find quality care for your pet, but if you go here, that will never be in question.

I took my dog Charlie to Uptown Animal Hospital for about 14 years. Overall, the vets provide good care and are kind and responsive. And I was fortunate to have a very healthy large dog that lived until 15. On two occasions when he was seriously ill, I do not believe the Uptown vets were diagnostically strong. When he was about 8 years old his coat changed dramatically and he started excessively shedding. I brought this to the attention of the vet and also did my own research online. Charlie's coat had never changed with the weather, but the vet told me it was probably weather related. My research online suggested that a considerable change in coat could be a sign of internal disease. I brought this to the vets attention. Two more years passed before Charlie became very ill and finally Uptown suggested an ultrasound. The test showed that he had Addison's disease. Once he was on drugs his coat came back to normal and his fur stopped shedding excessively. The second diagnostic issue was when Charlie was in his last year. He developed a dry cough. The vet appropriately ordered an xray and found no fluid in his lungs. I was also told that his ability to exercise seemed fine, so that it likely wasn't congestive heart failure. But that is where the testing stopped. It was never suggested that I get an ultrasound. And perhaps I am at fault for not pushing for it. Charlie ultimately passed from a tumor that ruptured and bled internally. Weeks before this occurred I had him at the vet with blood in his urine and the cough (which we could not recreate in front of the vet). I may be playing armchair QB, but in researching his cause of death I believe that he had a visceral vascular tumor (more likely than not, malignant) that had potentially grown from his heart. From my reading, it appears that such a tumor causes the same type of coughing that congestive heart failure does. And if he had multiple tumors (renal spread) it is possible that it was also causing the blood in the urine. At days end the result would have likely been the same. But I do think we had a chance to diagnose the issue with an ultrasound before the tumor finally ruptured, which may have given me more choices (or at least the opportunity to mentally prepare) at the end of his life. With all that said, I realize pets can't tell us how they feel and where they hurt which often makes diagnosis very difficult for vets.

This place is great. We’ve had a couple of medical emergencies with our greyhounds in the past two months and each time, this veterinary practice saved us from the hassle and cost of the ER. They go out of their way to accommodate you if you’re desperate. I feel like they truly care about my pets.

Given all of the stellar reviews of this vet, when we moved to the Andersonville area we were excited to get our dog set up for care. We waited for a month for our first appointment. I pre-emptively filled out the patient questionnaire, sent them all of the previous vet records, and a list of needs. We showed up 20 minutes early as instructed, and the vet called me to review my dog's chart 15 minutes after our scheduled appointment while we were still outside. My nervous dog and I waited outside for over 35 minutes before we were called. In the very short conversation I had with him, I found Dr. Dickes to be unprepared for the appointment and short/annoyed with me when I attempted to give feedback about the experience. Overall, I know it to be true that there are more modern facilities in Chicago with better operational excellence.

Uptown Animal Hospital has an Uptown zip code but it has been in Andersonville for the 25 years I've used them, through two locations and two vets. They have seven doctors, seven veterinary technicians, four pharmacy technicians, and eleven other staff. Fees are at the upper end of our locally accepted fee range for their professional services, which is not unreasonable since they are worth it. Their referrals to outside specialists have all been to good specialists. Their physical plant is small and customer parking is a 15 minute curbside zone big enough for three cars. Traffic police are forgiving and I haven't been ticketed on the rest of the block or across the street (meter parking). They are a well liked business.

Horrible service, appointments are only an illusion, they will make you wait 40 min, customer service is only for white people

A fantastic local animal hospital that takes great care of your pet. I just got a dog for the first time and needed a vet quick. So glad I randomly stumbled upon them and chose local. They are called Upton Animal Hospital but are actually on Clark Street in Andersonville (Edgewater). One doc called my dogs fur “Liver Chestnut.” That alone made me laugh and I’d give a sixth star if I could!

I had a sick senior cat, & Dr Lilja made time to see him without an appointment, & without having to make me wait. Her follow up and communication were excellent. I only recently started going to Uptown Animal Hospital, and I could not be happier with my decision to switch vets and go here.

I’ve been taking my pets here for years and really appreciate the level of care that the doctors and office staff provide. When discussing treatment/care options, the vets frequently share experiences they’ve had with their own pets when offering the different options so you know they’re approaching it realistically from the perspective of a pet owner.

Really appreciated their safety protocol. We phoned the front desk when we arrived, they came outside to pick up our animal, then the vet called to give us an update and answer any questions before returning our dog. Very efficient.

Dr Miller took excellent care of my little chi-weenie baby. My dog had to get a cracked tooth extracted. She was scheduled for a later appointment, but she was feeling poorly & I told her how worried I was about her. She called me back and seen her in 2 days! My dog was feeling so much better in a few days. I thank Dr Miller & the other doctors & staff so much for the care they gave my little girl!!

Uptown was recommended to us when we adopted our dog from Felines and Canines. We brought both our dog and our two cats here for annual appointments. Everything was fairly priced, explained well and timely. They are also super responsive about sending over scanned copies of records.
