They let me drop off wild cats and kittens I caught in my shop and were very helpful.

We just adopted the most amazing kitty just in time for Christmas. The staff and volunteers are incredible and helped us find a kitty that fits our family. The animals are so well taken care of. I wish we could have adopted them all.

I had an amazing and unusually stressless visit taking my elderly mother today and yesterday to the Whatcom humane society… my mother had just lost her tiny lap dog and was very lonely, we were in search of a nice cat or kitten to give her the healing only a pet can bring. Myself, just the act of walking through those doors, seeing all the little faces in kennels, more than deserving of nice homes, it hurts my heart. The kitty pawing at you through the glass or “making muffins” while purring and looking all googley eyed at me..hard to unsee…one funny little black dog that smiled at my little girl each time she approached the kennel, was so cute and so happy.. the two chubby little beagles, looking up with only their eyes.. melts ya. We ended up adopting an adorable little black and white kitten that was also, “making muffins” at us through the glass.. I was so impressed and moved by the amount of people, (hopefully not just making stupid “gift” decisions) adopting the kitties!! Some were taking two at a time!! Thank you!! I was there three times in two days and I was so excited to see the amount of kitties going to, hopefully, forever homes, as with my moms new kitty, Bootsie aka Gecko.. Now don’t get me wrong, still way too many kitties and dogs left without homes, soo can y’all please get your pets neutered or spayed… And if you’re hesitant, please take a tour of the reality your selfish decisions have made. All that being said, the staff was very busy helping with adoptions, but really friendly, compassionate, and they made the adoption process super easy and not stressful…. Every pet deserves a home.. the application process is very easy.. it was quicker than I had originally thought it would be and I felt like more people should check it out.. the place was clean, no terrible smells, was spread out and large and not noisy. PLEASE PEOPLE, ADOPT THESE PETS! Some can be viewed on petfinder.com…

Throughout my experience it was obvious that the staff truly cared about these animals and genuinely wanted to find good match ups for them and the humans who came there. I love my dog (Rose, in case you were wondering) and have had no surprises as to her level of training and general demeanor

I just adopted a sweet adult kitty from the WHS and received nothing but attentive, kind, helpful and respectful care from the staff there. They let me come on two separate days to spend time with my kitty and handled her gently with love and care when returning her to her cubby. They have their process dialed in and had a folder complete with medical records, post-surgery care, vet information, microchipping details and so on all ready to go for me on the day I came to pick up my new kitty. As is common with shelter cats, after I brought her home she developed an URI after a few days. I took her to my local vet which was covered in full by the WHS as a free checkup during her first week in her new home. She ended up needing antibiotics and the vet called these in to the WHS who supplied the medication for free. They asked how my new kitty was doing and adjusting to life in her new home. They express genuine care and concern for the animals they have there and are extremely helpful to people looking to adopt. I will go back here for any future pet adoptions, no doubt about it!

Thank you. Once in awhile we all need help. Received cat food and litter. Plus a huge carrier from donation pile outside.

The people there love the animals but lack human interaction etiquette. Seemed pretty gruff and holier then thou when talking with people, but totally different with other employees and pets obviously.

My daughter and I volunteer here. The staff are kind and committed. They do a good job tending to the animals, and they really care. If you are looking for a forever animal bestie, come and see the sweet animals here. Animals come and go daily, so check back often.

It's one of the better shelters I've seen.clean . Very helpful staff. Even though we didn't find our precious orange kitty. We love to visit every now and then

Great experiences here over a number of years. I've adopted 4 animals over the years from them, and they have always been incredibly helpful.

I offered a 40g tank for pets like hamsters so they won’t be in critter cages but the lady was so rude and told me “we have no use for it” okay just make sure every hamster gets an equal opportunity then. I can’t believe you would let a donation like that go to waste humane society.

I've adopted multiple small animals from them in the past and they were all amazinly kept and healthy. Their reptiles are usually unsocialized, sadly due to their previous owners, But do warm up to human contact if you have patience with them. I also got a mouse and hamster from them before and they were the sweetest critters I've ever met. The volunteers and staff have always been really friendly and nice to talk with. I would give them 6 stars if it was possible!

It's pretty much just like any humane society the the staff are nice the dogs selection to look from that I was looking at were nice it's difficult because it's not a great setting for the animals so it's hard sometimes when you're trying to look for something like the perfect dog. But for the most part the stalls were clean the animals look like they were kept well.

Just adopted 2 awesome kittens. Upon arrival we were greeted with a girl wearing a backwards hat and covered in tattoos that was extremely rude. We had filled out an application and we’re not sure of the process. It was such a negative experience at first we were contemplating going elsewhere for adoption. Fortunately we were helped by other staff members that were extremely helpful and walked us through every step of the process. 24 hrs after we took our kittens home, my wife had called for some follow up questions. The same girl that we were originally greeted with answered and was extremely rude and yelled at my wife on the phone over a basic question. I observed her doing this with other customers as we were doing our paperwork. Overall it was a good experience, we didn’t want to let this one bad apple form our opinion of the place as a whole.

This shelter makes it nearly impossible to adopt. I was looking at a specific dog to join our family, however because I had two dogs(which are friendly and very socialized) I could not adopt her and the women at the front desk walkied the back and told them the dog should be taken off the adopting list as she is not ready to be adopted. I was told to look at another dog even though I was there for the original dog I was looking at. The women was belittling me as if I don't know how to take care of a dog who is shy and afraid of leashes. It's called showing kindness, time, and training. I hope she doesn't get euthanized as she had a chance to be in a really loving home/ family unfortunately we were turned away and she was marked as not adoptable.

I brought in a bag of dog food said I'd be right back. she instantly offered help me to bring in the rest, I only had 1 more bag to bring in . I said I could handle it. When I came back the thanks I got from her made my day. Rich Koss

Called and asked if they took wild birds at their rehabilitation center. They said yes. Drove two hours to bring them a baby swallow. They said we don’t take these and will euthanize it. After paperwork was signed and bird was handed over. Super cool of them! Just kidding not really. Would have driven somewhere else if I had known they’d just kill it

This was a decent animal shelter to go to. It was small but had an open door policy when it came to people being able to freely look at animals to potentially adopt. They had rooms for each type of animal. Dogs were kept on the far left, cats on the far right, and the small animals were on the left hand side across from the kitties. I appreciated that the little pens for the animals were clean and had adequately filled water and food bowls and each area had habitats specifically suited for each type of animal. They had a small variety of rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, a turtle, and doggies and kitties. The dogs were what my partner and I saw first. They were vocal and a couple of them were jumpy and almost skittish. This was unfortunate. They were also too big for what we were looking for. But again, each kennel is tagged with a detailed marker for the pets aggression level, bite history, weight, age, and ideal home environment. Additionally, it outlines if they're suitable to be with other animals of their type or with kitties and if they're good for kids and which age is more suitable. I really liked that. Each animal also had a black and white photo for identification. Pictures were small and a little grainy but I appreciated it all the same. The staff were friendly if not a tad busy because there were a few other people looking around as well. There was signage that only allowed one household at a time, a max of 2 people from said household. Kitties were sweet and calm for the most part. One sweet boy was a chatty bite risk. We felt sorry for him. We hope he finds a forever home too with all of the other sweet big and little animals we saw. I'd still recommend this place as it is clean and off a main road and it's accessible. Also the hours of operation are clearly defined and they do a wonderful job of keeping everyone distanced. There's also hand sanitizer dispensers in each room as well which I greatly appreciated. Another bonus are the trio of kittens we saw in the second room. They were the sweetest tabby kitties we'd ever seen: energetic, rambunctious, comical, friendly, and curious. We hope a loving family or set of families take them home! ❤️????

We just adopted our new kitty from The Neko Cat Cafe through Whatcom Humane Society. They made the whole process very clear and they were super helpful along the way while we were getting our adoption finalized. Our adoption day went so smoothly and they were super helpful in sharing the necessary info for microchipping, vet visits and more. I highly recommend this amazing group of people who are so dedicated to the well-being of the animals and families they serve!
