Saved our bunny when she had an infection in her mouth

Dr. Burgess saved my bunny Walden's life. When I called, I was told to come in immediately. I'm so thankful that SW Animal Hospital takes emergencies seriously, and he had surgery right away. Without immediate surgery, Walden would have died from his blockage. He had a rough recovery, couldn't tolerate his antibiotics, and didn't eat on his own for 3 weeks. Dr. Burgess saw him twice more, adjusted his medicines and put him on an appetite stimulant to help get him eating again. The staff is wonderful and caring, and Dr. Burgess is a very rabbit savvy, skilled surgeon. Walden is healthy and happy again.

Super friendly and helpful. My rabbit didn't make it unfortunately, but they did everything that they could. They even decorated a nice box for her after she passed. Then they sent me a card expressing condolences. Great folks.

Absolutely inane advice for caring for a bearded dragon, very unprofessional attitude from Dr. Burgess. Being talked over on a phone call for 45mins was not worth the visit.

My daughter's 2 year old Syrian hamster suddenly stopped eating and was sleeping more than usual. We took her out of her bedding after a few days and noticed a brown discharge on her abdomen. Just looking at her told me she was very ill and wouldn't last much longer. I frantically called every vet in the Beaverton area (and Vancouver) who saw exotics and every one of them was out weeks for an appointment. After I called this office I was told to call early the next morning for an emergency visit. When I called the gal who answered the phone was so nice and accommodating. She told me to bring her right in and drop her off which we did. Because of Covid, a tech came to our car and took the patient in. She told us that Dr. Burgess would call me later that day. I picked her up later that day and received 3 medications. Dr. Burgess called a bit later and very patiently explained the infection she had. He was SO nice and gave me so much information about hamsters that I didn't even know. I have zero doubt our precious hammy would have died if they had not worked her in. I can't thank the wonderful staff and Dr. Burgess enough for their wonderful care and concern for our hamster.

Brought a bearded dragon in for a wellness check during covid. Staff were quick upon arrival and the vet was quick with his check up. Took about 30 mins for all this. THEN the doctor called me to discuss things. That took 45 mins to go over everything and answer questions (I am NOT complaining about this). Super thorough with everything on the phone, couldn't have asked for a better experience. Value for money was great. Actually, the only thing I could ask for was for the doctor to talk a bit slower but given how long I had him on the phone I will totally let it slide... seemed like he was talking 90 words a second lol

I have had pet rats for years and SW Animal Hospital has always gone above and beyond to care for them. I owe a sincere thanks to Dr. Burgess, Stephanie, the amazingly talented and under-thanked vet techs, and everyone else at SW Animal Hospital for keeping all of my loved ones happy and healthy. Thank you!!!

I would recommend this animal hospital to anyone with little critters. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to our sweet bunny last week, but we went to this vet for the past 4-5 years and they always took such great care of our little guy. They are incredibly thorough and kind. There aren't a lot of vets that specialize in little critters in this area, so they are quite busy so, have some grace with them. They know what they're doing and it will 100% be worth it. I can't thank Southwest Animal Hospital enough for everything they do to make sure our furry kids are taken care of.

Dr. Ramsell and her associates are top-notch and awesome! My hamster was bitten in the face by his brother and got pretty bad open wound. They stitched him up very well and he's fully recovered within 2 weeks. Will definitely be my go-to vet clinic (hopefully we won't need though~).

We’ve been bringing rabbits to Southwest Animal Hospital for over ten years now. We keep coming back because the level of care is exceptional and the knowledge of exotics is unparalleled. Dr. Burgess is always happy to explain things and answer questions. We never feel rushed during our appointments and always leave feeling confident in the care plan put in place. The cost is very reasonable considering they are treating exotics. Stephanie and Debbie at the front desk are gems! So thankful to have such a fantastic exotic vet locally!

My little fur baby Taro, was feeling very sick and I tried to get him into an ER clinic, but unfortunately the wait was 24 hours. I immediately contacted southwest animal hospital as soon as they opened. They were able to get him in very quickly and start performing treatment immediately. Unfortunately I did lose my little baby, because he was too weak. Dr. Ramsel did everything she could. You can tell Dr. truly cares about her patients and does her absolute best. The staff is beyond amazing. I’d like to give a shout out to Stephanie for helping me grieve the loss of Taro and being very informative. The whole staff did their best. I am thankful to have met the staff and to bring him here.

I know the guy is pretty much the only choice around for about 200 miles if you want someone knowledgeable in an array of exotics. His knowledge is better than anyone around now. Unfortunately his bedside manner a long time ago with some post op stuff on a skunk made me never want to see him again. I called to get some care done for another exotic, that already had xrays, had already been seen by a vet, wanted to have him perform procedure becuse my vet does not do surgery at all apparently? But he wouldnt do it with out an initial visit first rather than doing a consult. I live 5 hours away, I dont have time to be driving up for him to do a bs visit, the animal also did not have the time. She died before I would have gotten the appt anyway.

You couldn't find a practice that cares more about your animals. All of my exotics have seen Dr. Ramsell and is one of the hardworking and kindest people that you will find. She will do everything in her power to make sure that your baby will thrive. Dr. Burgess is a great small pet surgeon, I know all of my pets are in great hands when they have to go in for a procedure! Thank you both and all the staff for what you do!

Stephanie was amazing and incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I had called 5 or so other animal hospitals/clinics that even specialized in reptiles before calling southwest animal hospital and got nowhere. We needed urgent help with our leopard gecko and she was able to give us clear, specific instructions and a plan for taking him in if those measures don’t work. I am so thankful for her kindness and so is my son who adores his pet. What a wonderful experience.

The employees there are so accommodating and so pleasant to deal with. They took such good care of my pets and made completely appropriate suggestions on treatment plans. I'm so thankful for them.

In October 2019, my husband and I adopted three male rats. As adults, we'd never had any pets which are considered "exotic" before. When one became sick, we took him in to be seen by Dr. Ramsell. She was very professional, and she recommended treatment and meds which brought our boy back to 100%. She was amazing when we took all three boys in for a check up a few months later. Sadly, one of our boys became very sick recently. Despite how much he was struggling, Dr. Ramsell did everything she could to try and get him well, but ultimately we ended up having to put him down at an emergency vet clinic on a weekend while SW Animal Hospital was closed. When Dr. Ramsell found out that we had to put our boy down, we got a card from her. This wasn't your standard sympathy card with a signature. Dr. Ramsell wrote out two whole paragraphs talking about how good natured he was when she'd see him, and how she really hoped the treatment we were doing had worked to make him better. Dr. Ramsell wasn't even the one who euthanized our boy, nor was it her office. She didn't have to send a card, but she did anyway when she heard. It was heart-felt, and it demonstrated that Dr. Ramsell truly cares about the pets she treats and the owners that come to her. We'll never go anywhere else for the care of our pets.

I have taken my ratties here twice now and everyone I have encountered is absolutely amazing. Stephanie, in particular, is SO good at her job. She is always working her butt off, all while smiling and being the happiest, nicest person you could meet.

I called for my guinea pig during a medical emergency and the receptionist was rude, judgmental, and condescending. She blamed me for the problem when there was nothing that could have been done to prevent it. She also gave me medical misinformation telling me that the foods I was feeding him was bad for him, when later an actual vet told me that these foods were fine in moderation. The treatment was unprofessional and unfair. Also I have had problems with the vet in the past.

These people NEVER answer their phones. I tried calling over 12 times to cancel an appointment and no answer, gave up after that and they sent me a bill for a No Show. They are deceitful and they can burn my files. Will not be returning.

What's amazing, Dr burgess was kind and gave me all the issues on my guinea, we will be working together to find out what's going on with my guinea pigs leg. Kind, informative, easy to schedule and work with. Great little intro pack for guineas and tons of info

We took our rat here to get her begin tumor removed. We paid $65 for an office visit to get the green light for surgery, they said she was healthy. Quoted us between $400-600 to remove it, charged $22 for water after surgery, bill ended up being $650. We took her home and a week later she started looking terrible, for antibiotics from them for $25 and she passed away that night. I do not recommend because they are high priced for medication to everything in the surgery. They didn’t even call us back when we left a message telling them about her passing. Not even a 50% money back. They don’t care about your pet and it shows.
