I originally contacted Olde Towne School for Dogs in Alexandria at the recommendation of my fur baby's vet. I called them several times and waited days to receive a return call from a trainer. Worse, when a trainer finally returned my call, her tone is what I would describe as nicety (nice, but nasty) it was clear she didn't want my business--she was condescending, talked so much I could hardly ask questions, acted as if their pricing would be too much for me, nor sent me the consultation appointment she stated she would send. Instead of calling/emailing the owner of Olde Towne School for Dogs about my unprofessional first experience with their establishment, I decided to find another trainer and found District Dogs Navy Yard who I emailed from their website. I received a timely response from Mr. Revell. He was extremely professional, answered all my questions, and followed-through on everything he stated he would do. I instantly felt it was going to be a good experience for me, my daughter, and fur baby, and I was right! Our first consultation/private training session was everything I could hope for. The facility is clean, the staff is very nice, Mr. Revell thoroughly answered all my questions, we felt welcomed, comfortable, and his training style was humane, fun, and effective! We look forward to reinforcing what we learned, and our next training session!

My new puppy was a very nervous girl when she arrived in DC, but District Dogs has continuously provided opportunities for her to come out of her shell to become more social and comfortable with her other dogs and humans. We’ve attended Puppy Kindergarten (excellent option for puppies to first socialize), Yappy Hour social events (love to put her socializing skills to work), and most recently Structured Daycare. By far Structured Daycare has been the most perfect offering from DD for my pup - her very first day she was in a group with just 2 other small dogs and they got to play and learn commands together with an “attendant” alway there to ensure the dogs were all comfortable and appropriately playing. When I picked her up that day, it was the first time she walked out on her leash and then walked all the way home without getting scared or needing to be carried -her confidence and comfort was already apparent after just one day. I’ve seen some criticism of Structured Daycare about the dogs being in their crates for long times but I can assure you that after watching her entire day via webcam (yes, I’m THAT dog mom), she only spent ~30-45mins at a time in the crate next to her two new playgroup friends. While she is already crate trained, the pandemic has meant I’m home the majority of the time so she isn’t used to being crated during the day or while things are going on around her - so this was the perfect chance to get her comfortable in a crate outside of bedtime. We’ll be returning for a few more Structured Daycare days until she is ready for District Dogs’ regular daycare. 10/10 would highly recommend the classes, social events, and specialized daycare for anyone with a new dog who might be a bit timid, nervous, or just new to the city environment.

Fantastic job cleaning up our scruffy puppy! She always enjoys her trips to District Dogs and rocking her new doo. Myeshia took great care of our overgrown doodle puppy and we plan to come back! We especially like the District Dog report cards we get after a visit and hearing about all the new friends she makes.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE District Dogs!! It is my sassy, silly Doberman puppy's second home (maybe first if she had her way) and I tell everyone about it all the time. I even brought my parents' dogs in for daycare too! Shoshana Rose (A Little Bit Alexis) did her puppy kindergarten here after we had done basic obedience on Zoom elsewhere and I wish I would've just done it all here, so now we do! Whether she's at daycare, private training, group training, occasional baths, or even her first birthday party, I know that the entire staff puts her needs first, like she's the only dog in the whole place. My favorite part of my week is reading her daycare report cards to find out she was having a "frankly my dear, I don't give a woof" or "if I wag any harder, my butt's gonna fall off" or "leading the rebellion" kind of day.

I have struggled to find a doggy daycare and boarding I was comfortable with in DC and District Dogs Navy Yard by far exceeded my expectations. My pup Monty had an amazing time. I appreciated the daily updates with pictures and a rundown of his day/if he ate or not etc. Monty and I will definitely be returning!

My pup Rambo attended District Dogs for two days. The first day he was fine. The second day, I was told he was put on “probation” (and can not return) because there was “difficulty redirecting him ”. This honestly broke my heart because Rambo was born DEAF( which was mentioned during the social evaluation)! They had ONE difficult day with him and just decided to kick him out. They did not give my pup any effort or took time to know him in anyway. Rambo is not new to the doggy daycare setting and has never had this complaint in his last placement. I believe they discriminated against Rambo because of his needs and honestly did not want to deal with it. If you’re looking for a place to genuinely know your dog, this is NOT the one. I watched the live web cam at work, the handlers in the room are on their phone and have absolutely no interaction with the dogs. Not to mention, the rooms are TINY and overly populated.

I just want to say I discovered District Dogs online while shopping around for a groomer for my poodle. It’s been very hard trying to find a really good groomer who will know and understand how to cut and deal with poodle hair. Myeshia came out and was not only professional but she was very knowledgeable about what works for poodles and she gave her honest opinion of what she truly felt my pup needed. She made me feel very comfortable knowing that my pup would be in great hands. Needless to say, upon my return I was beyond thrilled of how my poodle hair looked. I was so happy with the service and I’m definitely bringing him back for future cuts as well as other services. My poodle looks like a show dog and he smelled amazing. Thank you so much District Dogs!

This review is primarily for Sophia Turshen, the dog training manager at District Dogs. We took our puppy Winnie to District Dogs for the Puppy Basics class and absolutely loved the training program. Sophia did a great job keeping a productive training environment during the group class. She instructed the humans on how to best train the dogs well. She even sent home summaries of the different skills that we learned in class, which was really helpful for practice at home. Highly recommend a training class with Sophia. Winnie was overall pretty well behaved after the puppy class, but we wanted her to learn more advanced skills particularly around walking on her leash without pulling and interacting more calmly with passing dogs and humans. We enrolled Winnie in a Board & Train so that she could work 1-on-1 with Sophia for 7 sessions. Again, the training that Winnie received with Sophia was exceptional. Sophia was diligent about taking videos of Winnie's progress and sent them with the daily report card. We loved seeing the videos and could see helpful strategies that Sophia used. When we picked Winnie up, we did a one hour session with Sophia and she taught the humans how to apply the skills at home. Since we picked her up, Winnie has been significantly better behaved on the leash and is better able to pass other dogs on the leash. While she still needs some practice, we feel the board and train was definitely worth the price so that Winnie could have a crash course in leash walking and other behaviors. The only reason this review is 4 stars and not 5 is due to some frustrating experiences with the boarding part of the board and train. When we signed Winnie up for the board and train, we requested private boarding during the day and at night. We were told this was available and the reservation for private boarding was confirmed in our account. When we dropped Winnie off, we confirmed with the front desk that Winnie would be in private boarding and we walked back to the back to watch Winnie get dropped off in private boarding. However, the next day we received an email that District Dogs Navy Yard no longer offers private boarding and that Winnie would need to be in open boarding with the other dogs. This was extremely frustrating given that we had confirmed private boarding multiple times, including at drop off the previous day. When District Dogs Navy Yard changed this policy, they should have reached out to all who had private boarding reservations ahead of time to let us know of the change. Our pup is 6 months old and is not yet spayed, so open boarding would have been a dealbreaker for us with any boarding facility. What is most concerning to me is that Winnie was removed from private boarding after we dropped her off and placed into open boarding with other dogs WITHOUT any approval from us and without even notifying us. In fact, I asked if they could let us know immediately if Winnie had not been kept in private boarding for the first 24 hours of her stay, but that question was ignored in the reply email. It is very concerning to me that they would remove her without telling us. We know she was in open boarding because there were photos of her in open boarding in her report card that day. This being said, the problem was remedied by the District Dogs team and they agreed to honor Winnie's reservation and keep her in private boarding for the duration of her stay due to the fact that her reservation was made prior to the policy change. I appreciate that the problem was remedied, but felt the need to disclose that our dog was put in open boarding without us being notified. We did not receive any sort of apology for this lack of communication and placing our dog in open boarding without telling us. Overall, we have had overwhelmingly positive experiences with the training program and with Sophia. We highly recommend Sophia and the training program to dog owners who would like well behaved pups. This is 4 stars instead of 5 for the lack of communication and for putting Winnie in open boarding without telling us.

I've been taking my dog here for almost a year now. The staff is extremely friendly and their service is always great! My dog tends to get smelly faster after his daycare visits but that happens at all dog daycares I've been to.

Took my dog here for the first time bc we moved to Navy Yard. Everyone was very friendly. We decided on partial groom and nails. The only thing I really asked for was to have her nails done. It’s really odd - it’s like the did her front nails but not the back? And the dew claws weren’t even touched. She came back cute but disappointed to pay $100+ and not receive the basics of what I asked for. We’ll continue to drive back to Sniffers in Rockville.

Incredibly friendly and patient staff. The dog play areas tend to get crowded during the week but the dogs seem happy!

The people that work there are awesome but good lord the rooms are tiny! I shouldn’t have expected much for DC but in the future if I board my dog I will be taking him to a much bigger no-cage boarding kennel. Also, the haircut was decent, but our dog has certainly had better ones

My dog always comes back looking so happy and adorable. Myeshia does the best job giving our dog a haircut and giving us proper tips on upkeep in between visits. Thank you so much for always taking such good care of our little guy!

I have never felt more disrespected than I did this morning when I was confronted by a seemingly agitated groomer straight out of the door. Upon arriving, I was hardly greeted by the Assistant Manager. I told her that i was there for a grooming and she flippantly directed me to “pick a cut” from a board on the front desk. I told her that I wasn’t sure what the lengths would look like and kindly asked to speak to the groomer, which judging by her response, seemed like an unreasonable ask or a nuisance. (I’ve never been to a groomer and not spoken to the groomer to discuss the cut.) A short while later, someone opens the door and stands in the doorway, visibly agitated. She rudely asks the room “who is who?” As I attempted to explain the type of cut I was hoping to get for my Bernedoodle and how I preferred to have any matting addressed I was met with an unfriendly and hostile response. Certainly, I’ve been to the kind of groomer who is concerned with volume over quality and does not take the time to gently de-matt and instead cuts out matts indiscriminately. However, given the reviews, and the branding on the website, I assumed they hired careful and attentive groomers who would provide first class service. I was so shocked at the level of disrespect and the combative tone she took with me, which only escalated, prompting me to walk out on the service. We have received service at this location before, just a wash. Our dog did return clean, however, she was very much wet in many areas. Thought we’d try again since it is so close, unfortunately, we will have to go elsewhere for the type of luxury groom advertised on the website.

District dogs is the best. Love the staff and always feel like my little guy has a great time there. They’re super responsive and attentive to their customers’ separation anxiety. Ha. The daily report cards show they care. Your pup isn’t just a number!

I've been taking my Yorkshire Terrier, Vince, to District Dogs for grooming since bringing him home 2 years ago. The team here is incredible - from the front desk staff to management and the grooming team. We have special love for our groomer Myeshia. Myeshia has been taking care of Vince from his very first haircut through today and she is incredible. Vince doesn't like the bath and gets pretty nervous around nail clippers and razors at home, but he lights up when he sees Myeisha. She does an incredible job, Vince always looks awesome when he comes home, and she is always a pleasure to work with. We're going to be coming to District Dogs and working with Myeisha for as long as we live in DC.

Overall a great place for my dog and yours. Price isn’t cheap; but packages help reduce cost. Make reservations…especially on weekends as they fill up and don’t take walkins.

Our sheepadoodle puppy Patti did the Puppy Basics course with Avi, and it was fantastic. Really helped us with our training. Patti's behavior has improved dramatically as a result of the class. Avi is incredible - we've ended up signing up for several one-on-one sessions with him and have signed up for the Advanced class as well. Avi is thorough, patient, explains everything extremely clearly, and something about him makes our dog love him to pieces. Cannot recommend highly enough

First, let me begin this review by stating my dog, Krystoff, is nearly 10 years old and has been groomed countless times by various companies. This is by far the worst “grooming” job I have ever experienced. I detail why below. 1. When you walk into District Dogs in Navy Yard, you are immediately hit with an overwhelming odor of urine. You can clearly smell the stench through any mask and clearly highlights the facility is not cleaned or sanitized. 2. I asked for Krystoff to be bathed and his coat blown out. The latter was clearly not done. He has tufts of hair protruding from his legs and side. I quickly ran a brush through his leg hair 3 times and removed a TON of hair. See the below pictures. 3. I was instructed by the front desk attendant that Krystoff should be medicated for any future grooming appointments. He was nervous and tried to jump out of the tub a couple of times, which is understandable going to a new groomer in a city we moved to 4 months ago. For me, a trait of a high-quality dog groomer is the ability to be calming. I recommend doing business with other grooming companies in DC, based on my experience today. Again, this was definitely the worst grooming service I have ever received. They did return him to me alive; so, 2 stars.
