A very compassionate group that really care for the well being of all pets. In my experience they really helped my senior shih tzu of 15yrs when he really need it I'm so thankful for their help at that time.

I feel we didn’t get a very thorough checkup for a first time visit. They brought our cat back out after <5 minutes and essentially said “she’s vaccinated now, that’ll be $115.” They literally charge double the prices for medicine as other places. The vet was really awkward and she didn’t want to come to our car for “curbside” service which is the only option. She waited by the door for us to come out and speak to her, then cut the conversation short because “it’s so cold outside.” I had a bunch of questions and concerns especially since we just adopted this cat recently, but the vet just walked away without even a goodbye.. All the other ladies working are extremely sweet. So you get bad service but with a smile, which is kinda nice. I’m sure they’re understaffed, overworked, and very busy. You’re just a transaction here.

I love how caring all of the staff members are at this veterinary office. I appreciated all that helped my cat Sophie. They even called the next day to check on my cat Sophie.

They are a RIPOFF with their prices on medication. Charged my wife $157 for Milbeguard Heart Worm prevention. 1-800-Petmeds sells it for $73. I tried to return it within an hour of buying it. They said I could not. I asked them to discount it, they said no. So more than double the price for a non prescription medication. I will be finding a new Vet.

This is the worst vet experience I have ever had. I brought my dog in for a teeth cleaning and asked that they trim his nails as well. They nickel and dime you for everything and charge almost $100 to take out a tooth that would’ve fallen out anyways. The nail trim is the worst he’s ever received, he scratched me as soon as they brought him to me because his nails were still rough. I am new to the area and this was the closest office I could bring my dog to, but I will never bring him here again.

They didn’t want to help my cat. They told me to go somewhere else. They give me my cat back with blood. What did they do with my cat? I’m calling service. This is terrible!!! WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DOO.

I will never in my life take my Husky here or any other animal of mine. He had an allergic reaction to the local fauna and all of a sudden he has cataracts!? No. When we took our husky to his normal vet, he was TERRIFIED. He is never terrified of our vet. Normally would be actively happy. I saw a vet tech pick him up by his middle, right here his rib cage ends and his stomach begins AND THEN use their other arm with him. Absolutely unacceptable. He is larger sized for a husky at 70 lbs and could have harmed him. I do not know what happened behind closed doors because I was not allowed to go in. I was unhappy when I left but it was when he was terrified of our normal vet that sealed the deal with me. Never again.

Layhill Animal Hospital is staffed by knowledgable, friendly, and caring doctors and staff. It is conveniently located, and it doesn't take long at all to get an appointment, even when your pet is sick and needs urgent care. I think we'll be returning to Layhill Animal Hospital for a long while.

Called on 10/19/20 to ask how much it will cost for 2 vaccines for my dog, specifically bortadella and influenza. Dr. Adelman was the one who picked up both of my calls to inquire and schedule the appointment. I was told that the "TOTAL" price was $80 something and he needs to do the check up as well since he has never been there before which he said was $59. I went ahead and schedule it for 6PM the same day but called and did it for the next day instead. I even told him that my mom will be taking him instead. My elder mother brought him this morning for a 10 minute exam and over charge our dog for $137. I called right away and the lady who picked up said that the vaccine are actually $43 and 37 respectively. She said that she will double check with the Dr. since I clearly asked the "TOTAL" cost before scheduling it. I should have stick with PETCO who charged me way less than $137 for multiple test and vaccine. WE will NOT be returning back because of the Dr./ Owner being adamant that I did not understand him on the day I spoke to him originally.

Dr. A. has been taking care of our Doberman for years now. Super friendly staff, who can get us in and out quickly which is a plus with our big cry baby of a dog

I feel compelled to share the absolutely horrible experience I had at this office and the extremely rude and unprofessional conduct that this doctor exhibited. We used this vet for several years with our previous dog and though I never found the practice particularly good, it was close to our home and the care seemed competent so when we adopted our second dog we brought her here. She is a rescue and trauma victim so vet visits are not fun for her. I always take pains to explain her situation to the staff and doctor whenever we come to the office, and we were able to muddle through a few visits without too much difficulty -- though staff members did yank her by her leash to try to get her to go with them, even though I had explicitly told them this would cause her trauma and make her more uncooperative. Today, however, I experienced a whole new level of uncaring, unprofessional behavior. During his entire encounter with my dog she was muzzled and leashed, so she was no threat to anyone. When the doctor tried to listen to her heart, she growled and pulled away and tried to defend herself. Having spent less than 5 minutes with her and made no attempt to calm or put her at ease, he threw his hands in the air and loudly and rudely said "I don't want this dog in my office -- I ain't worth it to me. You have to find another vet." He then just turned his back and left the room. I was stunned and humiliated by this conduct. Vets are supposed be skilled in handling animals -- including animals with trauma issues. If he did not feel that he had the necessary skill set to deal with my dog all he had to do was politely say to me "I'm sorry, I don't think I can treat your dog." Had he shown that level of common decency and professionalism I would not be writing this review. This man does not seem to care about animals, or people for that matter. If you love your pet, find another vet!

Dr. Adelman has been our vet for19 years. We have had 5 cats and dog taken care of at Layhill Animal clinic. Care has always been excellent, staff is friendly and competent and i have no problem getting an appointment when needed. They also board and groom. My dog loves it there.

Possibly the WORST vet in the greater D.C. area. The staff here is nice enough but the head vet has no patience for animal behavior (despite being a VET). Please, if you care about your pet's health and well being, for the love of god take them ANYWHERE ELSE.

I tried to make an appointment to have our elderly cat euthanized after several agonizing months of thinking about it, and after talking with the vet at this facility during an appointment about the possibility of euthanasia being the next step. I called to make an appointment (which took us days to work up to). I was questioned about why we wanted to put our elderly and ailing pet down, (which I understand), but then I was informed that I would still have to speak to a vet before I could make an appointment. I never got a call. I never got an explanation about why I needed to consult the vet. In another lifetime I was a vet tech. Patients who came in with pets to be euthanized (with appointments or walk-ins) were treated with the empathy and understanding that a person who is helping aid their pet in the transition deserves. This is not that place.

We love bringing our dog here. Very friendly and responsive staff. They can always fit us in. I especially like how they are open on Saturdays.

Took my puppy there. Floors were kinda wet. (Rain in the am) My puppy never walked on slippery tile before. He left with his hand hurt. He healed In a few days. Doctor was a very nice lady. Filling in for the owner. Will still come back but will be wary of wet floor

Is the best animal hospital around Aspen Hill and Silver Spring area, the Dr. and the staff are so nice. I know my dog is in a good hands. When I asked the Dr. if he can give me the diagnostic in Spanish he was so nice and wrote to me in Spanish. I really recommend this place!

I took my cat there for a treatment of a bite, as it is the closest animal hospital to my house. The staff is great! But the Male vet that attented my cat was disappointing. I have an open wallet for my cat, i’ll pay whatever it takes for her well being, but from the beginning the vet ONLY wanted to upsell his service. My cat is very loved and is like my child, i go in very worried over her well being and the doctor instead of trying to focus more in the immediate cat injury, started talking about things the cat needed NOT RELATED TO THE INJURY to charge more. I understand its a “business” but where is the medical service aspect to treatment. Is this vet a doctor? Or a bazaar salesman? Be smarter next time. Treat the immediate reason the pet was brought in and THEN suggest your over priced services... I understand you need to earn money (like all of us) but this is a different kind of business, you are not selling a one time good or service, you are creating a relationship with an animal that will live many years and its owner; ideally you want them to come back all the time. Start by being friendly to the animal and sympathetic for the reason it was brought in, and use the owner’s name in conversation. Even if you dont care at least do it for the earning potential. I wanted this to be my go-to clinic for my pets.. but i will NEVER go back to this “hmo like” vet. Improve your service! The staff is great though ????????????????

Love this place, a little pricey but everything is onsite (ie, lab, surgical, exams, grooming, meds) and a full, friendly and knowledgable staff. The doc does a full and thorough exam, answer all of your questions and offer good sound assessments or suggestions. Also, the doc return calls, make f/u calls and wellness calls. I would recommend LAH to all pet owners.

We have been taking all of our pets to Dr. Adelman for many years now. We have always been pleased with the treatment our pets receive, and the friendliness of the staff. In particular, this past spring, our beloved siamese cat, Claudio, became sick very suddenly. So suddenly that we thought he'd gotten into something poisonous in our home. We took him to an emergency clinic after hours. They found nothing and wanted to sedate him to look into his mouth. We declined (as they could find nothing wrong otherwise, and his labs were not significant), and decided to take him to Dr. Adelman the next morning. As soon as Dr. A. saw Claudio, he gently opened Claudio's mouth and immediately noted a problem on his tongue. After a biopsy, it was clear Claudio had an aggressive form of cancer. Dr. Adelman delivered this news with kindness and compassion. We asked if there were any way to treat the cancer. We were told yes, but it was not likely to be successful in the long-term, and would cause Claudio a great deal of discomfort. We took Claudio home and gave him love and tried our best to keep him comfortable, knowing we had a difficult and painful time ahead. Less than a week later, we took Claudio in to Dr. A. to end his suffering. A very hard and painful time, made so much easier by the quiet and calm kindness delivered to us by Dr. Adelman and his staff. We were all able to hold Claudio in his final moments, and we were comforted by this time with him. We were allowed sufficient time in the exam room afterwards to say goodbye. We have three remaining pets and we wouldn't take them anywhere else. We have a vet much closer in distance to us, but we have found the services to be overpriced, and the vets in the large practice to be in a hurry. We are grateful to Layhill Animal Hospital for the care our pets receive. We wouldn't go anywhere else. ~ the Acquista - Matulef family
