I despise this company for what they did to my Cat. 2 months ago my Boyfriend and I got a kitten from RAL. He’s the sweetest cat in the world and we really love him so we are incredibly grateful. However, when we went to pick him up for adoption he was starved, in a kennel that was maybe big enough for him to turn around, he was unnaturally skinny for his age, terrified of people, and came with worms after I was told treatment and check up took place. I also was asked if I would like my kitten microchipped, I made it very clear I was uninterested, and they went against my word and microchipped him anyway. I really hope these people get shut down.

You can tell the people here care about the animals and want the best for them

RAL is run by a great group of folks who really care about the animals and finding them their forever homes. I put in an application, which was just a simple front and back piece of paper, and am waiting to be able to pick up my new little friend as soon as he's ready. This is a really wonderful organization and I'm happy to support them.

We have adopted here 3 times. The vets here are god awful. They do not properly check their cats. The first cat died of heart failure, and they said it was conjunctivitis. We spent over 1,000 dollars on her before euthanizing her. The second cat, was much older then they had said, is aggressive, which they didn't tell us, and has eating disorders! The third cat, has a neurological disorder that's gonna cost us even more. I'm sorry, but seriously, check your cats better. I'm afraid people are gonna be returning cats to you because they can't afford to fix them. That or they're just gonna go and euthanize them. I'm not gonna euthanize mine. We still have the second and third cat. We plan to keep working with them. I'm just upset because these cats were NOT receiving proper treatment at the shelter. They were sick, and the shelter just- didn't notice??

What an amazing staff! So friendly and knowledgeable! Even went the extra mile helping me get my very stubborn hound in the car, coaxing her with peanut butter and giving me training tips for getting her used to car rides. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Woman at the front desk very rude. Staff is not welcoming and will give you the dog only if THEY see fit! If you are not of their 'caliber' don't waste your time!

Wonderful organization! Nice, clean, bright facility with tons of friendly volunteers. They do a lot of awesome community work to raise funds to provide care for the animals they bring in. Great place to adopt your next pet!

Amazing organization providing loving care for animals in Richmond. We have met or applied for other kittens that either weren't a fit via meet and greet or another applicant beat us out since apps are first come first serve. Today was our day! Volunteer Ellen was patient and allowed me to have time to sit and see if we meshed. I left with a bag of dry food, four cans of wet food, microchip info, a voucher for our first visit, and an assurance that they were available to answer any questions that may arise. Thank you, Ellen! You were top notch! We also had our puppy spayed with RAL in December and appreciated the low cost option to take care of our sweet baby. Thank you for a wonderful experience, RAL! Keep doing your thing!

My husband and I were recently dogless having lost the last of our 4 dogs in the last 3 years and the last two in the last 3 months. I spied Esteban on their website, and I was instantly captivated. The adoption process was easily done and thoughtfully planned given Covid. (PSA: Please consider getting vaccinated to protect yourself and your loved ones and the community). RAL has clearly dedicated a lot of resources to Esteban. We have had him a week now. When we saw him it was love at first sight for us and for Esteban. He has filled a large hole in our physical and emotional space. We took him boating (doesn't he look fetching in his doggie flotation device? I forgot I had it). He rides in vehicle like a champ. Rode in the boat like a champ. He'd get in a space ship and zoom to the moon if someone accompanied him--and he would find a place to snooze and snore. Donned his safety gear and paddled to the banks of the James River. Got back in the water and swam to the boat (all accompanied by me). He's a dog that we can go anywhere with and do anything with. If he can be with a family member he is "good to go". His transition to our home was one of the easiest I've experienced (and we've owned many many dogs over the years). Karuna was the adoption coordinator and Molly the foster (and behaviorist) and ensured that we were fully apprised of Esteban's history. They were wonderful communicators and are dedicated pet match makers. We definitely won the dog lottery with this handsome, fun, sweet and intelligent fellow. I think he feels he has won a lottery too!

I adopted my cat Lilly, from here in 2015 and my boyfriend adopted his cat, Waffle from here in 2016. The adoption process was fairly quick and easy. Everyone here was kind and helpful. I would love to adopt another pet from RAL

I adopted my one and a half year old cat from Richmond animal league. The process can be a little frustrating to adopt, but there's a reason for it. All animals are spayed and neutered as well as chipped when you adopt them. They come with a coupon for your first visit to the vet that covers vaccines and boosters. Please support this organization through charitable contributions. They do an awesome job! Definitely better than the spca!

R A L neutered & microchipped my rescued Maltipoo for much less than the veterinarian charged. They were so good with him. I'll adopt from them in the future.

I’ve worked closely with RAL for 10 years now! Former staff/current volunteer and I also use their spay/neuter services for community cats. I am so glad RAL is part of our community and takes such great care of their adoptable pets.
