My dog always comes home with a good temperament after boarding. I'm pleased with how gentle everyone has been with her (she can get hyper) and how they seem to get to know her.

Quick drive from the West End. Super friendly staff who are very attentive to our dogs, providing updates during their stay and after, during pick up, if there were any issues. Accommodated our aging Cane Corso when she got scared of thunder and our younger GSD got protective of her while sharing a room. They gave her her own room at no additional cost. Also attentive to feeding frequency and medicine if needed. Recommend them. We're coming back.

I booked a reservation online, as requested via a phone call to their business. I then called and confirmed the reservation twice. Three days before my vacation and dog boarding reservation I received an email saying they were booked and couldn't accommodate my request. 100% unprofessional. Would never recommend a place like this to anyone. Not dependable & poor customer service will run them right out of business fast.

I wouldn't even give them one star. They are known to over charge people and they tried to do it to me. The living conditions are nasty and smelly.

All pet owners in and around Richmond I wish to share my most recent experience with dog boarding at the Dude Ranch located off Route 33 in Hanover County. We have been boarding our dogs there for many years with no major issues however during their stay at Christmas our most recent experience was truly awful for our dogs. When I picked our dogs up I felt something was off (noted we have 4 bags of food left + a full bag of treats I provided for them) I questioned the leftover food as we supply the exact days they need while staying and I was given oh we are sorry for your inconvenience. (really and of course this info was known after I paid in full) What I learned later from an employee there was a food mix up or food misplaced so our dogs were given the house food and due to untrained new hires left alone to care for all these animals. Anyone who knows animals would know you cannot just change their food. Once we were home both of my dogs were vomiting and had diarrhea. One of my dogs was so bad I ended up taking him to the emergency vet where he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. One of the main causes of pancreatitis is a abrupt change in food or receiving foods that are abnormally rich or fatty. The cost of this vet bill was $438 + $21 additional for a med I had to pick up from CVS. I have called several times and tried to speak w/ the owners and have left several messages with another staff member. These owners apparently have no intention of calling me back as apparently this is typical for them not to respond to customer complaints or issues. So due to their negligence I had to pay this additional vet bill. These owners clearly do no care my dogs, their owners and only care about money. Also I paid extra for what they call “luxury” in which they are should be getting extra attention and walks. Well I came home with an entire bag of treats I provided in addition to above so clearly they were not given extra care/attention. How extremely disappointed we are to now learn the owners of Dude Ranch are so self-absorbed and uncaring and are running a business for the care of our beloved defenseless pets in which they have no motive except money. They can’t even return a phone call and take responsibility for what occurred under there management. I asked you to share this post so others will be aware to not consider Dude Ranch for boarding and if you are a current customer reminder if something goes wrong even a 10 year customer you will get ignored by management.

We have been taking our two crazy German Shorthaired Pointers here since they were puppies, almost six years ago. First, they were one of the only places that would take them when they were puppies because one of them was still so young he hadn't had all his shots yet. (It was an emergency trip for my Aunt's funeral, and it only posed a risk to him, not the other dogs.) They were so kind to us and showed us around and when we dropped them off, all the staff was super loving with our two puppies. Fast forward to now, we have crazy hyper dogs. They have been trained, but they get so excited they just can't contain themselves. The staff is always so patient with them. Our dogs are always so excited to arrive, they leave us to go with the staff and don't even look back at us! I don't think we'd ever leave them anywhere else!

Moving to Virginia, we were unprepared for the difficulty of finding a boarding facility for our spoiled corgi. There are plenty, to be sure. The challenge was finding one with supervision overnight. I am absolutely perplexed by the number of places where there is nobody on staff present overnight. Dude Ranch was one of the few exceptions that not only had overnight staff, but amazingly posh accommodations. While the little extras do add up, they are absolutely worth it. When I went to pick up my dog, he was super excited to see me, and tried to bring me back to the boarding area. He loved his stay. I highly recommend them.

Left my puppies for 2 weeks while out of the country. Nice to know they’re in safe hands! Mine stay together in luxury and it’s well worth the expense.

I dropped off my German Shepherd on a Friday and toured the facility before I handed her over. I cannot RAVE enough about how SPOTLESS this place was even with an almost packed house. There was zero smell that's what I noticed immediately... not even a chemical air freshener scent... it was just CLEAN!. Every dog had water & blanket/bed and seemed happy and the walls between them were solid which I thought was great because they couldn't fight or spread germs between bars. I opted for the Luxury Suite for my dog and it was so POSH! She had a toddler bed with mattress, blankets, & pillow. a toy shelf FULL of toys and a TV!!!! Did I mention turndown service with a treat on her pillow, how adorable is that? I also liked the fact that she had a Dutch door instead of the wire grid so it had more of a homey feel instead of a kennel. I can't imagine ANYONE being unhappy with this facility or any of the staff members! They even sent me pictures when I called to check on her.... I would GLADLY take her back. When I picked her up she was happy, clean, and just as clean as when I dropped her off! I've attached the picture they were kind enough to send me!

We don't trust any other boarding facility for our Great Dane. Have been going here for years. He has his own room and bed. We love that someone is always there so there is no worry about your pet being locked in at night without someone on the premises. Highly recommend.

I have to take business trips lasting 2 weeks every year or so, and I’ve always taken my JRT to the Dude Ranch. I adopted a Pitbull 2 years ago and so now they both stay at the Dude Ranch while I’m out of town. I love that I can call them after hours (I work night shifts at a hospital when I travel) and they are always able to give me a full update on how they are doing. I’ve seen some negative reviews, and I can imagine that, like with any company, some folks have a bad experience, but I’ve trusted them with my baby for 7 years now and have only had positive experiences. Any boarding facility that has staff on site 24/7 is only concerned about making sure all of the animals in their care are safe and comfortable.

Excellent facilities and services; definitely going to continue using them. I boarded my (very spoiled) 6 mo. Mini American Shepherd for 10 days using their villa (and suite package), daycare play sessions, and 1:1 playtime options. They were extremely knowledgeable regarding dog breeds and behaviors, and between their evaluation requirement and extensive and varied play yards I was very comfortable leaving my girl in their care. I think the best that can be said is that I picked up my puppy with herexcited to see me, happy-tired(!), and no regression in training or behaviors whatsoever like I thought I’d see after any boarding at all. Thank you Dude Ranch!

Never been inside but its suppose to be only for pets. That's why it's a pets resort. To get here you have to get through some narrow winding roads.

If I can post with no stars I would. NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR DOG HERE!!! I trusted this place to care for my baby, because he is my baby! I left him to you to make sure he is safe. Last weekend, I dropped off my small Maltese for a weekend, to be with my family & honor my mothers 1 year memorial service. To return home immediately after getting a devastating phone call from a worker, not a manager or owner, telling me my dog is "ok," but being rushed to the hospital because another dog attacked him, & has multiple bite injuries. (Really, that makes him "ok"?) I was flowed. I was so upset that day already because of my mothers memorial service, to make me more upset to get this phone call. That same day, I left my family, dropped everything, canceled my other plans for the weekend, to get back in my car with my husband to drove home 300 miles, to get to the hospital to see my dog at the hospital. Which we were driving at night, in the rain on I95, in the middle of the night, to arrive there at 2am. that was creating more stress for me. When we did get there, We couldn't believe what we saw. I'm surprised to see he didn't pass away from his injuries, that where he was bitten he could have. (Chest, stomach, neck, ribs). He was all stitched up, and on draining tubes etc. My heart was broken. somehow this lab/mix apparently got lose, jumped a fence or door (that I was told may need adjusting, really? After the fact), & do I really know how this happened? Maybe it's a different story. Who knows. They can say what they want, no video cameras either. That dog ripped my dog up good. I've waited 4 days to get a phone call from the owner to at least apologize, and didn't. So I called them, and got ("I'm sorry we didn't call you") but we were attending to your dog, & our manager stayed with him at hospital etc. that was a few hours attending to my dog. What happened to calling me after you did that? Give me a break!! Since your place and workers caused this to happen, that is your responsibility to do what you did. So I'm not impressed by that! really unprofessional on there part for not reaching out to me. Shows they don't take good care of there pets, nor give a crap about the owners either. I'm devastated still to this day to see my dog in pain and all stitched up several parts of his body. In such trauma. Not only is he suffering, so am I. I am up most of the night, checking him, giving antibiotics etc. it's affected my job, & life style because of there negligence, stupidity and not being responsible. (Hence, I'm writing this at 3am). I wish I can post the pictures too. He had surgery right away, was in hospital for 5 days, and it's going to take at least a month, maybe more for him to recover. He has to wear a cone now for at least 2 weeks so he doesn't lick his stitches, & be uncomfortable. How does a place like this let these things happen? You would think where the incident happened also they would put video cameras around. (They didn't catch this on video surprisingly). Now even tho this isn't my fault, I blame myself for taking my dog to this hell hole of an operation. The workers involved couldn't get away from this? They couldn't pick up my dog when they saw the other dog running after them, and run for cover? He was on a leash with a worker apparently, and I guess they wanted to see the attack happen like if it were a show maybe. NEVER EVER TRUST THIS PLACE!! Besides the fact when I finally got Ed on the phone a manger or part owner whatever, he was speaking like a robot and speaking to me like I was an idiot. & wasn't very sympathetic either. He didnt even apologize until I mentioned no one called me. (Then he apologized. Really?) I can go on and on here. But the more I think about what happened, the more upset I get. So bottom line, DONT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT INCOMPETENT WORKERS AND YOUR DOG ATTACKED!! Prayers my Bailey gets well soon! Ugh Dude Ranch.

The folks at Dude Ranch have always done a wonderful job for my pets as well as my patients who go there. They are extremely attentive and methodical always looking out for the best interest of their boarders as well as their parents. One of my girls is a shy little rescue and they work with her to make sure she is as comfortable as she can be. Highly recommend them!

I just started taking my dog here when I can't get home on my lunch break. The front desk is always so kind. My dog had only been there one time before they already knew his name. When we walk in the door he gets very excited to see the staff and go play. He comes home exhausted which says a lot because he's a jack Russell terrier puppy. The fact that they keep them from 7 to 7 is amazing I haven't found any place else that has hours like this. I just wish the prices for grooming weren't so expensive. He's small and it would've cost me $40 just for a bath. I truly believe the dude ranch love animals.

I've been bringing my dog here for at least 3 years. This place was very good at one point. Now...not so much. You would think that for people that continue bring their pets to them, they would at least give you a heads up on price increases. Of course, this bit of courtesy is not the case. I pick up my dog only to find that the price increased from $27 to $34 per night. Not only that, the bath that used to cost me $40 is now all of a sudden $55. When I questioned the girl at the desk, she first tried to say it's because my dog is big. My dog hasn't gained any weight and has been the same size the last numerous times that he was boarded. Since the "dog is big" excuse didn't work, she went with "the groomers have increased their prices". Why not say that instead of coming up with a lame excuse about the weight of my dog. When you see they have a Groupon, you can only use it once in what seems like the lifetime of the dog...which isn't written anywhere on the Groupon. Let's not start with the fact that if they notice something may be "wrong" with the dog (I have a blue pit so he has numerous skin allergies) that the groomer just notates it on the account so you find out when you're checking out. A courtesy call just to let you know THEY are doing their job would be appreciated. This combined with lame excuses and price increases that when questioned, you get an answer like "we increased the prices this summer". Really??? My dog will never come back. If asked, I will tell anybody DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO DUDE RANCH.
