Tears of Cyanide

The staff is kind, but the service is outrageously expensive to the point that it seems like they are price gouging. I went here and found out my cat had Pyometra, and immediately they quoted me 1.5k$ for the surgery without any sort of payment options, & that's not even counting her rabies shot and antibiotics after it. This amount is absolutely outrageous(it's even more than our rent!), and even then the visit and checkup itself was over 300$. So I ended up finding another clinic that only charged 260$ for a checkup, the surgery, antibiotics, blood test and rabies shot! That clinic saved my cat's life, & I'm sure VCA would've just let my cat die because I didn't have that gigantic amount of money they were asking for to pay them. The nurse who called to give me an update certainly didn't seem happy that I found another location to have my kitty treated at.

The only reason I brought my dog here is because they were the only ones open on a Friday evening. Our regular vet had already left her office for the day. My dachshund had recently had TPLO surgery on one knee and we suspected his other knee had given out. We brought in a screaming animal in pain and the first thing they wanted to know was how much we were willing to spend. They took him in the back for x-rays and we could hear our dog crying out in pain. It took forever for a vet to come in and say she wasn't really sure which made set off warning bells with me, but that he most likely needed surgery. She asked who had done his previous surgery and when we told her, she said their recommended surgeon was much closer (ours is 100 miles away in Groves and well worth the drive). She said she'd send our pet's information and medical records to their surgeon. When I informed her that we would not be using her surgeon and would bring him to ours again, she really didn't seem to care about our dog after that. I told her to just give us some pain meds to get him through the next two days until we could bring him to our vet and to send me the x-rays and radiology report. I had to call twice to get the x-rays and report that I was charged almost $500 for. This place takes advantage of people desperate to find a vet open after hours. Thank goodness I had the funds to pay for such poor service but not everyone does. I will never bring another animal here. I'd rather drive further to find a vet's office that isn't going to try and get every penny they can out of people trying to care for their animals.

My family took in a feral kitten a bit over a week ago now, and I noticed the little guy feeling poorly last Friday. VCA took us as a walk-in with no appointments available, examined him immediately anyway, and discussed initial prognosis and potential treatments, odds of success, and cost in a very professional and caring manner. Dr. Guthrie found options well within what I could afford to pay and sent me home with medicine and step by step instructions how to help our little guy survive what is normally a terminal illness at his age. I followed those instructions to the letter and our kitten made it through! Dr. Guthrie even called today to check on him! I am absolutely certain that their compassion and quick care (other vets wouldn't even take us as a walk-in because we'd be new patients, and my regular vet only does checkups and routine wellness) and very thorough explanations are the only reason this baby made it, and I will be forever grateful. We may have had him a short time, but my three kids already loved him and would have been heartbroken. Thank you so much VCA!

Dr. Cox's surgical skill saved our cat's life a few years ago, and his bedside manner is impeccable. We continue to trust him and his excellent team with each of our pets' veterinary needs. Dr. Cox and staff, thank you so, so much for being there for us. Gandalf is grateful for his second chance and makes the most of every day.

I normally do not do reviews, however today I had to let my beloved Dizzy Lou go to heaven. The care and compassion that we received was unbelievable. The young lady that was with me even prayed with me. I just want to let everyone know that they are true angels

Really dont care for the process of taking my dog in the back to see the dr...and then try to charge me 200 I dont mind spending money for my dog but I dont know if they are doing anything for him maybe examine the pets in front of the customer so they can see they are truly getting the care they need and not jst throwing stupid prices out

Very caring and understanding . My wife and l are seniors on a tight budget ,Dr. Garcia and Ross were wonderful in explaining the home care after they stabilized our toy Yorkie who developed eclampsia after she delivered her pups. This condition is pretty common with small breeds. My wife and I will only bring our baby to VCA for future check ups, i can't imagine after our initial visit , entrusting our baby's care with another clinic . THANK YOU EVERYONE AT VCA!

Wow. I'm going to start by saying, if you're debating between VCA and the Texas City hospital, VCA is the way to go! We had a feral rescue who had given birth, but the Mama and the babies have been sick. We took Mama TWICE to the TC vet hospital and, even with meds, she was not getting better. One of the babies got terminally I'll on Tuesday, and before he died, I rushed him to the VCA hospital (bc there was no way I was going back to the other place). They prescribed him meds and were very caring, but unfortunately little Winston died Tuesday night. To be safe, I brought in the other 5 babies. Dr. Garcia was able to identify what had been wrong with them (and subsequently Mama) the whole time. The OTHER hospital did not prescribe the TWO medications necessary to get rid of their parasites. This place is VERY caring of animals and their wellbeing. I still feel like they think I'm the crazy cat lady, but as long as these cats/kittens get better, I don't mind. Lol

I took my pup there because she was having diarrhea and vomiting<(only when she ate)for one day,the next day she was normal but I still wanted her checked out, they said it was parvo,I knew it was not because she had shots and she was fine,I have dealt with parvo alot and this pup did not have it,so long story short I took her to my regular vet the next day and they did a parvo test as well it was negative and my regular Vet thinks it was from the trifexas pill she had 2 days prior to me taking her to the vca( I only took her there cause my vet couldn't get her in)...so I paid almost$600 at vca for nothing!!! At my regular vet they charged me $60 for the office visit an the retest and said she was fine!!! I won't go back to vca again!

Stay away!! They almost killed my cat!! I took her in because she had an upper respiratory infection and they mis-diagnosed her. When she didn't get better in a few days I took her to another fet who said they miss-diagnosed her and gave her the wrong medication and if I wouldn't have brought her in when I did she would have died.

I brought my sick dog in here after pawning everything I owned the vets knew my budget called said they was gonna do all of this for him and kept calling me taking more and more of what they said they would do they said they didn't have payment plans at the start held my dog from me after I was dissatisfied with the services rendered wouldnt give him to me until I paid im watching my dog die right now over 70 $ do not take your animals here i had told them several times what my budget was and they knew upfront this place is a criminal racket for cash and after all was said and done i get my receipt and what do you know it says they have payment plans but not before they took all of my money I would give them 0 stars if it would let me
