Payed them 25 dollars for a SICK cat, after I waited 2 whole weeks for them to make sure he has all his vaccines... he still came out sick and VISIBLY underfed. Called the receptionist and she was SO RUDE and not helpful. Do not adopt from them.

This is one of the worst places to allow your animal to ever be put, we got a family member back yesterday our dog Murphy and he passed away this morning because he was not fed he was not watered and he was suffering a heat stroke. I will be contacting KSLA and reporting this to the news and have them out there with a reporter videoing and reporting this...

Well the hours of operation are completely wrong. They do not open un till 1 PM and they close at 5 PM. The staff could definitely learn some manners.

The front desk staff is very rude, I've called up there to ask questions and the lady who answered was very rude and standoffish. She wouldn't even let me finish my question before interrupting me

I fostered some puppies for a few days, and later took a tour. Staff was caring and helpful.

Worst place ever! They euthanize animals but when people go to adopt they are no help. I paid and adopted a kitten. Told me she needed to be fixed and I have called multiple times to get information on her and when I can pick her up. Nobody will help me or give me information. It's been over a week and I still have yet to hear from them.

Caddo Parrish Animal Shelter, Shreveport, LA is a government operated facility that must take in any animal that comes to its door, it therefore is not a “No Kill” facility, few government operated shelters are; most have to euthanize due to open admission policy which takes in all unwanted pets and thus decreases the amount of shelter space. Please adopt from this shelter as these animals greatly need a home. This shelter does work with rescues that may be able to offer fostering programs. Fostering frees up cage space for animals at the shelter by putting them in temporary homes. This shelter would benefit from increased government funding to offer low cost spay and neuter and humane euthanasia for all members of the community and creation of a Trap Neuter Return program for feral cats. If you cannot afford to get your cat or dog spayed or neutered ask the shelter for help.

Two bad experiences: 1.) Adopted a dog, had staff walk her through dog room and cat room to make sure she did well with other animals. We told the staff we had multiple other pets and needed a dog that would tolerate other animals. We were told she'd do great. We get home and the dog is viciously aggressive with our other pets and unpredictable. If our pet came in the room she would snarl and lunge at them. We tried having a trainer/foster keep her to introduce her slowly, within hours we had to go get her because she was endangering her pets as well. We were advised to take her back because she would need way more training and correction than we/the trainer could give her. I took her back and was already crying when I walked in. The staff tried to tell me that was normal puppy behavior; absolutely not. When I reminded them that we could not have an aggressive dog and that we had to return her, they were extremely rude and talked about me as if I wasn't standing right there crying and upset that I had to bring her back. Absolutely ruined my opinion of the shelter. 2.) The dog we adopted and had to return was so infested with fleas that we had to quarantine our house and bomb it multiple times, over the course of two-three months. Once she got here the fleas spread to our other pets and exploded into an infestation. 3.) My friends dog escaped her home on August 5th, and her dog was up for adoption on August 6th at caddo. They claimed they found her dog on August 2nd even though my friend has proof that her dog didn't go missing till the 5th. They made her adopt her own dog to get her back and she is in the process of waiting a week to get her dog back. They deleted all of my comments stating that the intake date was wrong and I can no longer comment on their Facebook page. Yet, even though she's been adopted and they had time to delete my comments, she is still advertised as up for adoption on their Facebook. Caddo is full of rude, immoral staff. The animals deserve better.

absolutely horrific treatment, found two dogs and called. Women said she'd call the field officer and waited for two hours on the ground with the dogs where i called THREE more times begging for help and got no help and at one point she said i could just abandon them if i wanted. after waiting that long i got one dog and took it to the shelter myself but while i was trying to get the other it ran in road and was hit and killed. The women on the phone working there couldn't have cared less and I'm disgusted by these people if she represents them. For the record I still haven't been called back saying the field officer is coming so i assume i wasn't going to get any help from the very beginning

The process of adopting an animal was easy. Customer service is awful. Front desk people have no idea what they’re doing.

Took a dog there that I found. Someone threw him out of their car door and sped off. Since I found the dog in Bossier, I was turned away. The lady was extremely rude.

I went up there today to just brows around and see what they had to offer at there facility. And I must say they have done a lot of good with the place it's clean for the most part yes a shelter can and will smell like feces and urine at times because they clean up every mess every dog , puppy ,kitten or cat makes rite when they make it. With that being said the staff was very friendly and very helpful the facility has had a face lift and has come more into the 21st century with the virtual video tours they do on there Facebook page also the business cards they have and the cat & kitten & Dog&puppy booklet they have up front for people to browse threw to see if anything catches there eye. I haven't been there in a long time so I came in today around 11:30 am and I was treated quickly and efficiently & the staff asked what i was looking for was it a small , medium or large dog was there a specific breed etc. So I told them around what I was looking for and they brought me straight to all the dogs/puppy's that I was looking for. And as always more then one stood out to me so I wanted to interact with each and every one that caught my eye and the young lady that was helping me had no problem of letting me do so and telling me a bit of info on each and every one telling me if they did or didn't have heart worms how there temperament was etc. I came in there with a open mind and open heart on the possibility of finding my next fur baby and as always they never disappoint. I found me a beautiful male German Shepherd/wolf hybrid he was rough around the edges needed a good bath some good food and a good grooming but no diamond is a diamond with out some love no pebble is smooth with out the water smoothing out it's rough edges. So I take him out and interact with him and for him to be in a scary unfamiliar stressful place he acted so good and calm no aggression he was attentive and just a all around Teddy bear I love him. But as always with something good there's always a catch rite? Well catch was that he was in 4 day holding and wasn't put out onto the adoption floor yet and he hadn't been fixed yet ether but was checked for all other diseases and for heart worms and came back negative for all of it so that was good. So i asked the young lady who was helping me look at the dogs what steps did I need to take to secure him in adopting him since he was on hold until tomorrow and she talked to her boss and they said I could go ahead and pay the adoption fee since his 4 day holding ended tomorrow on which they were closed so they allowed me to adopt him and they will contact me once he is fixed and has had all of his shots and is ready to go. I can't wait he will truly be a blessing to me and my life thank you caddo animal shelter for making a good life for me and for my fur baby I respect what y'all are doing keep up the good work and as always god bless. ????

I wish I could leave zero stars this place is horrible! There was a pit bull in the middle of the rode and people were just going around him, I stopped and picked him up and laid him on the grass he didn’t try to bite or anything probably because he was bleeding everywhere and had some broken bones. it was early and most places were closed but I called animal control and they said the would come and pick him up. So I left and called two hours later the women said they must have forgot to check on him, so I rushed over there and sure enough he had passed. The women never sent out a officer like she said she would.

Came to adopt a cat,my friends found one...they would not release until Wednesday, because it wasn't spayed...I understand, but,we proven responsible cat peeps..I pleaded with them to call dr Coker, the cat doctor to verify they refused..."its the law the person in charge said"....wow...no wonder so many get euthanized, we cannot adopt here..so peeps go elsewhere..

My son did public service there. I had a better outlook on a dog shelter when I left. You could see the concern in the workers eyes.

I would give a zero if possible. This is not a "Shelter ". It SHOULD be called Caddo Parish Slaughter House. Those who allow this lack any moral compass. If a citizen treated animals as they do, it would be called animal cruelty. All who can correct this and do not have much to answer for .

I volunteer at this shelter whenever I can for community service. I believe all of those bad reviews were from when the shelter was under different management. Most of the animals are very happy and friendly. They have group playtimes so they can get along with other animals. On the malnourished dogs kennels they have signs saying food must be kept in the kennel at all times. The director calls the animals by name and seems to know a lot about all of them. Animals cannot be adopted our unless they have been fixed, then the only fee is $25. Most shelters would put down heart work positive dogs but this one lets you adopt them if you prepay for a vet to treat the animal for heartworms. The shelter is very clean and well managed.

I'd give a -5 star if possible. I adopted a dog from them who seemed normal but timid. About 24 hours later he started displaying abnormal symptoms like refusal to drink or eat and extreme lethargy. By 48 hours he had developed 7 of the 8 symptoms of canine distemper. My vet said that it was extremely likely that he had early canine distemper. If you dont know what canine distemper is, its basically a death sentence for a dog, but sometimes they live with partial or full paralysis. This place is deserves a special place in hell.

I recently visited and as a former shelter worker (humane society of North texas)and current veterinarian tech, I approached with a critical eye. The place was very clean. Even with a full shelter I couldn't detect any smell of urine or feces. The animals were well cared for and I could tell that people care. I was given a tour by the shelter manager himself. He mentioned taking over control in January and already was addressing dogs/people by name. Every question I asked was answered in great detail. I was NOT only shown dogs currently for adoption but also coming up for adoption! I fell in love with a tiny little girl that has been there since march. During my tour I did not find a single piece of feces anywhere!! Bowls of ice were offered for all the animals due to the heat. Every dog had shade, and appeared to be comfortable and social. He mentioned that dogs are socialized with each other. Group playtime were something that they were doing and to help the dogs to adjust and learn. I have high praise for the shelter.❤❤❤
