I was going to delete my 5 star review from 3 years ago, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. So I feel I should add this review to update my experience with this animal hospital. For whatever reason, and probably due to Covid, they let go most of their staff and it's very, very, very difficult to get them to answer or return calls. They've shaved their hours to 4 days a week with a 2 hour lunch time. That's their decision, but I need a vet I can depend on to see my dogs when I need them. On one instance, I was there INSIDE the lobby with one of my dogs for a check up. I called 3 days later and asked them to work me in, because my older dog was having vertigo. They said they could see her, but I would have to drop her off. This would have stressed her out immensely, so I said I'd just wait with her but they said I could NOT come INSIDE the lobby! Also, two of my friends, to whom I recommenced this clinic, have left after several years as well. One lost her dog. She called the clinic to tell them, and there was little to no compassion for that loss. Oh, did I mention I've gone to this clinic for 25 years with 4 dogs and never had a problem before COVID hit? Dr. Elmer knows his stuff and he's an excellent vet, but the customer service is sorely lacking, in my opinion. When I moved my dogs to another clinic, I wrote a very nice and complimentary letter to the vet, explaining I needed a clinic that had more open hours, but thanked them for their excellent care of my pets. I got NO REPLY. So, I DO NOT recommend Porter Animal Hospital.

Dr. Elmer os great. He is very nice & he has helped me get extended care for special needs.

FYI They over charge. If you do not care about value, you might be satisfied? I brought my dog for sutures for a small cut. After examining him they quoted over $900. The young female receptionist is terrible she tried to charge me $400 for the quote. I am willing to pay for professional services but they need to be in line with industry standards. A mile down the Post Rd is Westport Animal Hospital. The total cost they charged with follow up to remove the sutures was $400. Highly recommend Westport Animal Hospital. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Porter Animal Hospital! Please read the other negative reviews? You might get lucky.

Know my pup by name and always available to see him. Knowledgeable about his breed and are really caring.

We had to have a dog put to sleep. They were very respectful & weren't that expensive. They furnished a box to put her in afterwards. The place was very clean. The employees were gentle with the animals people brought in.

If I could give negative stars I would! So unprofessional and irresponsible. I had an appointment for drop off between 9-9:30 got there before 9:30 no one would answer called from 9:36- 11:15 and no one has bothered to call me back or pick up the phone. Worst veterinarian clinic. Will be taking my service else where!

Always friendly, clean, and organized. Very competent Vets, who are open and honest with their professional opinions. Highly recommended!

The doctor was very professional. Helped us get Cooper back to health and running around the backyard again with his Brothers!

Horribly overpriced. Tried to charge over $200 for a parvo test that was $30(!) at All Community, right down the road. I understand needing to make a profit for your business but, c’mon. Threatening to euthanize a puppy without even knowing for sure that it has parvo is cruel. I am completely disgusted by this place and I hope that no one has to deal with them they way we did. Go to All Community right down the road. They are bigger and busier which many don’t like, but Dr. Slaughter is AMAZING and their prices are much more reasonable.

Excellent care of our dog when he became ill while we were out of town and he was staying at a kennel. Professional. Dedicated. Patient. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Elmer and his staff. Our dog is doing well now and this office put him on that track.

Horrible experience. I found a puppy in the rain and decided he needed to get checked out. The only place open at the time was Porter Animal Hospital. I took this sweet little guy there and they told me they believed he had Parvo then kindly explained that it was going to cost me $250 to test for it. I explained that this wasn't my dog and I was just trying to do a nice thing but they didn't care. I refused to pay their price and went to All Community Vet right down the road where they charged me $80 for the exact same tests. When I called back and told them the price difference they refused to budge on their price even with proof from another vet's office. I asked what would happen if I left the puppy there and the office manager told me that they are not a shelter and if the puppy was left they would PUT HIM DOWN. This might have been been his fate anyways but the puppy deserved better than how this vets office treated him. I will never go back to this place regardless if it's the only place. Fun fact. It wasn't parvo it was a parasite. So thank you for stealing my $58 vet visit. Not only were they trying to price gouge me they were trying to kill this innocent puppy. They do not care about the animals there. They are horribly over priced. I had higher hopes for them.

The worst veterinary experience of my life. I brought my brother’s dog in because she was acting really sick. I asked them to do any test needed to make sure she was ok. The vet recommended many different tests and I agreed to to them. She concluded that she was severely dehydrated, and used some hydration packs to make her feel better. I asked her at least 5 times if there was ANY POSSIBILITY that she would pass away that night, because my brother was out of town and wanted to fly home to spend her last moments with her. She ASSURED me that she would be fine. My brother loved that dog more than anything. I told him that it was ok, she was dehydrated. I came back that morning and she was DEAD. I know people make mistakes, but the vet should’ve at least told me there was a possibility so my brother could come home or I could’ve spent the night with her. Then I talked to someone who said they would refund the over $400 dollars I spent, and I wasn’t going to leave a review or hold any resentment because I know people make mistakes, but at least they were sorry and doing the right thing. The reason I’m writing this review is because they didn’t do the right thing. I came in to get my refund and they told me they could only refund me $150 for the medicine and the guy who was talking to me had no remorse and was a little bit of a jerk, saying there is nothing else they could do and not seeming apologetic at all. They are dishonest and incompetent, and no one who loves their pet should bring them to this deplorable place of business.

I've been taking my animals to Porter Animal Hospital for over a year now. They always receive excellent care and we've never had to wait.
