We love Dr. Diehl at Bayou City Vets! She is so kind and compassionate with our dogs. She always spends plenty of time with us explaining any concerns and answering our questions. The few times we’ve had to seen a different provider have also been really positive.

Never EVER go to Dr. Foster. Took my dog in for a consult for a potential ACL tear (his second, unfortunately) and he was already stressed. Dr. Foster -- who is not our normal vet -- manipulated his bad leg prior to checking his heart beat. My dog had just been in about three weeks prior for his yearly vaccines and everything was fine. Dr. Foster struggled to find his heartbeat because she didn't take off his harness and then said "Has he ever been diagnosed with a heart murmur? Because he has one." I panic. My dog just turned six. Heart murmur sounds terrifying. She goes one to say "Now we don't want to say the scary word heart failure but..." I'm almost in tears. She then takes him back for x-rays and tells me everything else looks good. I said "It doesn't sound like it because you said the words heart failure" and she laughed. SHE LAUGHED. And then she walked out of the room. Dr. Foster did nothing to explain to me what grade she thought this heart murmur was or what it even meant. I did a quick google search and every reputable website said that vets might think theres a murmur when in reality its just that the dog is anxious or stressed -- which mine obviously was because she manipulated his TORN ACL leg prior to checking his heart. The appropriate steps, according to numerous veterinarian websites was to have the dog come back in the next day when they were less stressed Dr. Foster said none of this -- and she said nothing about how the murmur might be stress related and not a big deal. Instead she told me he'd need a full workup and probably couldn't have anesthesia -- which is a problem because he needs ACL surgery. She did absolutely nothing to explain to me what a murmur was, what we were supposed to do about it, whether it was unusual that he was only six and she thinks she has one. In fact, the vet tech helping her said oh well it happens in older dogs. And when I said, but he's six. All she had to say was "Oh." I don't think either of them even looked at his chart before coming into the appointment. On my way out, I even had the vet tech check with another vet to see if it could be stress/anxiety related and the person said yes, that happens a lot. I'm furious. We've been taking our dogs here for years and love Dr. Kirby and Dr. Kyle but this is the worst experience I have ever had at any vet, period. We've raised the issue with management and, frankly, they don't care. No one seems to think that it is a big deal that one of their doctors threw out the word heart failure and then laughed when I, in tears, questioned it. If the only doctor available is Dr. Foster, take your pet to another vet.

My fur baby and I love this place!! If you don't agree with the mask policy and are an entitled person, go somewhere else. There are plenty of other vet hospitals in the area

We love taking our pet here. She’s well taken care of and has seen multiple different vets and groomers. They’re professional, kind, and take good care of her.

I would NOT recommend ! I feel highly discriminated based on a medical condition, which prohibits a mask. While several employees were working behind the glass doors without masks, they would not allow my appointment. I asked to see the written policy and why employees did not have to wear masks, but could not provide. The manager clearly politicized their ability to pick and choose who is required to wear a mask.

Not a common practice of mine to apply negative reviews but this clinic has earned it many times over. Consistent with other more honest reviews I encourage you to read before choosing this clinic, strongly not recommended for several reasons focused primarily on regular price gouging activity, consistently inattentive staff, regular unwillingness to answer relevant questions about the care given to your pet, regular unprofessional frustration directed toward bill examination requests, and commonly observed poor customer service. Dr Brenda Flores being a prime example of demonstrating regular behavior of all of the above, though it is fair to include most of the front desk staff who all convey a regular tone of being burned out and rote process oriented with little care to lighten an experience that is often by default a concerning event for a loving pet parent. The attitude they regularly convey is “this is the care we say your pet needs, do not ask us questions about this because you’re not a doctor, and this is the cost only IF you ask for it which is at a hefty premium because we control the bill, and if you don’t agree, that means you’re not providing for your pets in the best way we say you should.” Ask them a question about your bill if you go here and let us know if you get a different answer from the tune above because I can honestly list at least 7 different encounters where this happened to both of my pets over the course of just 2 years. It’s a consistent practice to have an appointment scheduled and arrive to no such appointment time being honored, even if you explicitly request a drop-off appointment given their wait times are consistently above 45 minutes to an hour. Also a consistent practice to take your pet in for a basic check whether it’s an annual exam or a one-off concern to simply try and understand a new medical situation better only to walk out with a long list of extra charges that total $300-$800+ per pet based on my experience for events that never required extraordinary care; think tooth cleanings or basic skin rashes. Each charge they do apply are consistently line-item for line-item already inflated as they are by default, leading to regular bill shock since they don’t first walk you through the charges or the reason for them, which is an obvious business practice taboo. It’s a fair statement that their costs are regularly 2-4x higher than market when going to other veterinary options for comparable services like Garden Oaks, Creature Comfort, Fur and Feather, and North Durham Animal Hospital. Accordingly you should take a look at those options as well during your search.

The vet and vet assistant were very poor in addressing concerns about the dog. They are more interested in running medically unneccessary labs to run up the bill. It is pretty obvious. Some conditions can be diagnosed and treated easily from previous medical history and previous medical records. You don't need to run tests over and over again to diagnose the same condition. Competent medical professionals can diagnose based on clinical history, previous medical records and physical exam. Please do your research when getting a vet. I chose this one for close location to my home. Bad decision.

All of the staff are very nice. They've been happy to explain costs beforehand, and always call the day after an appointment to check on my dog. Overall, I've been very happy with their service. Not the cheapest place I've ever taken my dog but high quality care that makes the cost worth it.

My dog has been a patient here for almost 2 years and we have always received good care from everyone including the vets, techs, and front desk. Most of our time here has been during the pandemic, so it is nice to finally see everyone face-to-face. The clinic and rooms are very clean. Dr. Kyle is very caring and clearly has a passion for animals. I would and have recommended Bayou City Vet to friends and family.

Big thanks to Dr Kyle and Dr. Flores and their team for the kindness they displayed the last 6 months as we had to put our dear Roxie and Jesibel to sleep. They will be forever appreciated.

My experience started with a friendly greeting. That followed by being walked to a very clean examination room. The doctor let know what she was doing. The only difficult part of my experience was having to pay the bill. And now kitty cat is doing So Much better.

Constantly charged for services that my dog didn’t need. Finally decided to go somewhere that I can trust will only give her the care she needs. Most vets will consult with you before performing pricey tests/exams/services, but this place does not. They will take your pet back and do all kinds of unnecessary tests then overcharge you for them.

While I've been using Bayou City Vet for a number of years and like the vets themselves, the practice as a whole is disappointing. We have been receiving mail flea + tick for years and on our most recent trip to the vet they sent us home with a year's supply of flea + tick that we didn't request and now they won't take it back and give us a refund. Honestly the last straw with how over priced this vet clinic is.

The only reason I wouldn't give them 5 Stars is prices are a bit high. But I must say they were able to see my cat pretty much immediately both times that I needed their services. I called them at about 8am on a Monday morning, they gave me my a 9am or 10am Appts. The next time I called was at 8:45am on a Saturday morning and need to euthanize my cat. I wanted it done on Saturday ASAP. They were fully booked for day and had appts. But they agreed to work me in an had me come in at 10am. They said I might have to wait a bit, but the wait was very short. I could not find any other Vets in the area that could accommodate my needs as far timing.

Me and my fiancé had a 16 and a half year old mini-Schnauzer named Jubei with a very good health history, though he had developed arthritis and possibly slight dementia (unsurprising for a dog that age). One morning during the recent freeze over (when most Texans had no power and no water) he started shallow breathing/hyper ventilating, but he refused to lay down and started walking in small circles. After about 30 minutes we decided to take him to Bayou City, because it was the closest vet open and we did not want to drive on icy roads. Due to COVID restrictions we waited curbside for about 15 minutes in our car before they came to take him inside for treatment. The vet called us about 25 minutes later and told us his blood oxygen was down to 73, which is very dangerous, but that they were able to give him some medication that brought him him up 85 or so. While they could not tell us exactly what was happening to him, the vet was very professional and was able to narrow it down to one of three major health issues (aspiration, pneumonia, blood clot or congestive heart failure). We were told he would need 24 hour care for at least two days and were referred to a local ER Vet. The Bayou City vet was very straight forward with us and told us he had a reasonable chance of surviving the next two days, but he would need to take some serious medication with serious side effects. Given his age and mild kidney disease (very common for schnauzers that age), the best case scenario was he would live another 6 months. Additionally it would have cost an additional $1,500 to $4,000 to for the two day ER care. She told us the other option of putting him to sleep While he had a long history with no major health issues, his arthritis had gotten much worst the past 1 1/2 years. We watched a couple of videos of him from 2 years earlier and were surprised at how much he had deteriorated physically with his arthritis. It happened so gradually, day by day, over the past year and a half that we forgot how much personality he had less than two years ago. By the time he got sick, it was not uncommon for him to fall over several times a day due to his arthritis. While we wanted to keep him for 6 more months, we knew that was not fair to him because of the very low quality of life he would have. After 16 1/2 years with my fiance (she had him since he was 9 weeks old), we decided to have him put to sleep. It was very emotional, especially for my fiance, but the vet was incredibly compassionate. She gave us as much time as we wanted in the office to say goodbye, and my fiance was allowed to hold Jubei during the process. It was even more emotional because the medication he was given by the vet helped elevated his blood oxygen (temporarily) so that he was able to stand and walk around when we entered the office. It was as if he was his normal self but that gave us great comfort to know he was going to pass with no pain or suffering. When we took him to to vet initially he was scared and knew he was dying; we could see it in his eyes and behavior. The vet put him to sleep while he was in my fiancés arms, and it felt like he was just going to sleep. When he initially passed out it was the most peaceful we had seen him in the past 2 years; he had become a very restless sleeper as his arthritis and mental deterioration got worst. It brought us great comfort to see him pass so peacefully in the arms of the person he thought of like his mother. He did not suffer any pain and passed quickly. Bayou City took care of cremating him for us and gave us his ashes and his paw print. They also mailed us a hand written letter a few days later expressing their condolences. Given that we had never been to the vet before, we were very happy with the service and compassion that showed. We will be taking our remaining dog there going forward and I would highly recommend them based on our experience.

Our pup had an irritated right eye. They got us in the next morning and we got drops. He’s was all better within two days! They’re so helpful and so sweet. He loves them and they tell us he is so calm and well behaved with them! Visits can be a little pricey, but they get the job done and we are always satisfied with the care provided.

The worst experience I have had as a customer in search of any type of service ever. I called to make an appointment for my 8 week old puppy and was encouraged to bring him in after discussing with the vet staff the notes from his first visit with the breeders vet at week 6. I was encouraged to bring him in right away. During the visit they didn't do much and it took all of 8 minutes and they told me to order heartgard and nexgard. I was billed $70 and was told to bring him back a week later for round two of vaccinations. When I inquired about having to pay the $70 visit fee a second time a week later, i was told that yes i would have to pay again. I thought this was outrageous because they could have told me to wait a week before coming in in the first place.. i didn't know what i was doing and they took advantage of that. Thus, I notified them that I would be seeking service elsewhere. The next day, I ordered heart and nexgard from chewy.com as advised. I used Bayou City Veterinary Hospital as the required vet because during my visit, they DID prescribe that for my pup. The vet staff at bayou city ignored the the verification from chewy.com so I called Bayou City Vets to ask for approval for the prescription. I spoke with yvette and she immediately went into psycho mode. She told me that "we no longer have a relationship" and when I asked if I could reestablish the "relationship" so my pup could get his meds, she said that "its over between us." Possibly was the most petty response I have ever received and all the while my puppy is having to fight off the aggressive houston fleas. I was completely shocked by the entire thing. I mean do you really want these people taking care of your pets? This vet group doesn't care about your pet. All they care about is obtaining your dollars. They use deceitful tactics to get you to overpay them. You have been warned to avoid them. *UPDATE* After absolutely hounding them, the owner, Dr. Kyle, approved the prescription.

Prices are extraordinarily high for regular routine procedures compared to other vets in the area. Pushy on unnecessary services. Staff is nice, however I do not recommend.
