I would recommend Dr. Dean to anyone who needs surgery for their pet. Dr. Dean did a splenectomy and a tumor removal on our 14 year old cat. Him and his staff kept us informed when the surgery started, and gave us a call as soon as he was finished. In addition, the staff even sent us pictures of of baby while in recovery. It was an amazing experience during a stressful situation. Thanks again Dr. Dean and your staff!!

Applied the cast to my pom's broken leg to tight and her leg died. I called to voice my concern that she was in terrible pain and he said she was just having anxiety. My pom now has only 3 legs. This doctor is not qualified to work on very smalls dog. He even stated he had not worked on a dog so small in a very long time. Do not use this vet!

Dr.Paul Dean is absolutely wonderful! He examined my dog, gave me options, and ultimately helped me decide to take the least expensive option-NO ONE EVER DOES THAT!!!!Most businesses will try to talk you into whatever option is the most profitable to them.My dog can’t really be helped, unfortunately, and he told me that instead of trying to drain me of every cent he could! I very highly recommend this doctor and his friendly,animal-loving staff! They were also very thorough with explaining everything so it was easy to understand.Dr.Dean and staff-Sunny says “Thank You”!????

I'm posting this because of the great experience I had with FWVS. My 95 lb dog needed a TPLO and while there was a complication, Dr. Dean fixed her right up. 8 weeks after surgery and she already seems back to normal, though she has several more weeks to go before she can run free. She's doing great and it's all thanks to Dr. Dean and his team!

Brought my French Bulldog in for a respiratory consult today. My frenchie has never had any issues, I just wanted to ensure he was healthy and happy. The bread is notorious for respiratory issues. The team played with him and checked his breathing at rest and after heavy activity. Dr. Dean was very polite and gave us his expert opinion that our pup was in good health and any procedures would be unnecessary and a waste of money. I just appreciate the honesty and care received. They aren’t trying to rip you off, they legitimately care for your pet. I hope my pup never needs surgery but if he ever does I’ll bring him to Dr.Dean.

Truly caring people! They go the extra mile to give the best possible care! Trying not to sound too cliche, but they really do hold themselves to a higher standard.

Me & my boyfriend absolutely had a wonderful experience with Dr. Dean, his wife, & all his staff. They are extremely genuinely caring, sweet, & talented, and professional. My cat Samson had surgery and had to stay a couple nights. I received phone calls to let us know how he was doing and even the front desk staff text me a wonderful picture and note after Samson's surgery. I felt so happy that my sweet cat was in good hands. When we picked him up we were met with such friendly sweet compliments about our kitty, given clear detailed (written & verbal) discharge instructions especially on the medication, and when we left a tech held the door open for us. The surgical center was very clean as well and tidy. Payment was easy with several options. I highly recommend this place if your pet needs surgery. Thank you to everyone there for every single thing you did for us! Love to you all. meow:: ????❤️

Dr. Dean did an amazing job on my pups leg. He had a horrible fracture and required a plate, screws and wires to hold everything back together. It has been several years since the surgery and the leg he broke is now considered his "good leg". Dr Dean and his staff went above and beyond helping our pup.

I don’t like to give negative reviews but feel it’s my responsibility to write about my recent experience with Dr. Dean at Fort Worth Veterinary Surgical. In early December 2018, my dog’s (Coco) vet recommended a consultation at the center because of Coco’s lame left hind leg. She was holding it up and stopped using it. Dr. Dean diagnosed Coco with a torn ACL/Grade 2 patella luxation and recommended an expensive ($3,250)/invasive surgery, TPLO and Patella repair ($350). In laymen’s terms, a TPLO involves breaking Coco’s leg and reforming her bone (YIKES!). My husband and I sought out a second opinion with Dr. Franklin at Gully Animal Hospital. After a thorough examination, Dr. Franklin assured us that Coco DID NOT have a torn ACL but did have inflammation that was caused by her luxating patella. Dr. Franklin prescribed an anti-inflammatory for three months. Coco completed her treatment and is completely back to normal, using her left hind leg without any difficulty. Either Dr. Dean is deceiving people for monetary gains or made a mistake by misdiagnosing Coco. I really do hope that the latter is true but this is hard to believe because torn ACLs are very common in dogs. In retrospect, I’m grateful that we got a second opinion and saved Coco from unnecessary surgery and pain. Hopefully this will help someone else and their dog.

Dr Dean and his staff are amazing! The customer service was always friendly and helpful, and we could tell every member of staff really cared about our dogs well being. Dr Dean is a masterful surgeon that I highly recommend. Our 2 year old shelter pup ruptured both rear ACL requiring surgery. Dr Dean did not try to push the most expensive option, but the option he felt was best for Harper. Bailey and Mrs Dean are truly great people, they sent us pictures of Harper sleeping after her surgery to let us know everything went great and she was ok. They even gave her extra belly rubs and attention to ease her pain. My wife and I read stories of very long recovery times and some dogs that never fully recovered from this surgery. Dr Dean gave us detailed instructions to aid in Harpers recovery, and we are pleased to say that within 3 months of her surgeries she was walking on her own. 6 months after her surgery she was running, jumping, and playing like a pup again! Now 1 year after surgery she has no signs of ever being injured, and is one of the most athletic dogs I’ve ever known. She can sprint across the yard, jump and catch her frisbee, and jump through mommas hula hoop, all thanks to the expertise of Dr Dean and his staff. Thank you all for giving Harper Jane the athletic life she deserves!

My wife and I have taken two of our dogs(Minnie and Bitsy) for surgery with Dr. Dean. We had the first surgery done 5/2018 and the most recent one done 5/2019. Both of our dogs are very small(6-10lbs) Pomchis and they both had extremely large lipomas(tumors) in similar pelvic locations. Two other surgeons told us that due to the locations of the growths, it was very possible that serious permanent nerve damage could be done to them as a result of the surgical procedure. Over the preceding six months before locating Dr. Dean, we visited multiple vets(Abilene, Austin, Brownwood, Dallas) in an attempt to get an accurate diagnoses of their problem and what could be done. Several told us(with no lab tests), that it was "probably cancer" and they should be "put to sleep", but we obviously didn't quite trust those opinions. When we took them to see Dr. Dean, he examined them, performed the lab work and took the x-rays we had tried to get at other places. He told us it was obvious they were benign lipomas and even considering the delicate location, he thought they could be safely removed. We scheduled Minnie, who had the most advanced tumor for surgery, which was accomplished in May of last year. Minnie came through the surgery even better than we hoped and fully recovered in just a few weeks, with no complications whatsoever. At all times FWVS exhibited an extremely high level of professionalism and caring that we were pleasantly surprised about and very grateful for. We received regular updates while we waited during the surgery and the office followed up in later days to see how she was doing. They were also very quick to address any questions or concerns we had. It's been over a year now and Minnie is still a happy and healthy dog. When it came time for Bitsy's surgery, even though we had moved from Texas to Missouri, we drove her all the way back to Fort Worth for her surgery. Her procedure was performed just this last May. She is older and also has health complications from injuries received in a house fire several years ago, so we were even more worried about her than we were about Minnie. However, like the surgery a year earlier, it went great, there were zero complications and she fully recovered within a few weeks. The high level of care shown to us in 2018 was also unchanged this time around and again exceeded our expectations. It's now been 3 months, and she is not only back to normal, but seems to be in better health and spirits than she has been in years. Finally, while the cost of these surgeries versus what our dogs mean to us, made money a non-issue, FWVS quoted us prices for both procedures that were about one-third lower than several other offices we visited. These prices even included us opting for the use of a safer and more expensive anesthesia drug in both procedures. If, your pet faces a significant health challenge that requires surgery, you absolutely won't find a better place to take them than FWVS and Dr. Dean.

Beware of this place!! We took our dog here to have a FHO done and the morning we get here Dr. Dean opens the door to the office we are sitting in and tells us he is not doing a FHO on our dog because we would not be happy with the outcome …

Dr. Dean and his staff are top notch! After our initial diagnosis from our regular Vet, we were pretty scared of the various scenarios that could happen. After our initial consultation with Dr. Dean, we were put at ease and he was able to fit our dog's procedure in basically the next day, which was a relief to us since we didn't want to delay our dog's recovery any longer. No matter where you are located in the Metroplex, Fort Worth Veterinary Surgical and Dr. Dean is worth the drive. They treated us like one of the family and exhibited top notch care of our dog Clayton, even sending us post op recovery pictures to put us at ease. We know where to come now for things outside the ordinary realm of our regular Vet. Thanks again Dr. Dean, Gayle and the staff!
