I did snake avoidance training with my pup through Winter Kennels. The piece of mind knowing my dog will avoid snakes is worth every cent. They do refresher classes to make sure the dog remembers for free! I highly recommend.

I had my dog spend several months out at Winter Kennels for obedience and hunting training. My pup was a WILD CHILD, and Winter Kennels was able to turn him into an incredible companion and a lights-out hunting dog. It’s like they taught him English! The first month was tough not being able to see him, but the trainer explained that this is to help create the training bond between the dog and the trainer. Man were they right about that! From then on I went out every week to train alongside my pup (owners need training too!). Winter Kennels is not some high strung snobby dog class, it’s a hunting and obedience kennel and every second of training is spent on helping your pup be their best. My dog is now on his way to being a field trial champion! Response to accusations from old reviews - sternness with a dog a cruelty are not the same thing. The trainer had to be stern with my stubborn dog, but make no mistake, he adores her. Winter Kennels is one of his favorite places on earth... that would not be the case in an abuse situation. Don’t rip on a family business for something you didn’t take the time to understand.

Ms. Winter is awesome. A wonderful experience. Had three dogs snake "proofed". Very effective, she is very professional. And best - unlike when I had a dog snake "proofed" when I lived in another area and the trainers sutured the snake's mouth closed - at Winter Kennels they actually remove the venom sac - which I really appreciated as one dog - our little poodle- felt the shock and jumped and landed right on the snake!!! It appeared that she was bitten - but was not injected with venom!! Thank goodness. They also do refresher courses. It was money well spent and now I have piece of mind as we are going to be in heavy rattle snake country this coming winter. She explained what she was going to do and educated us about how the training worked. Very impressed.

Excellent snake training. I would highly recommend for all dogs that spend time on the surrounding trails. We trained our dog for Rattlesnake and Water Moccasins.

This company took down their FB page because of how bad the reviews got. 1 owner posted a picture of a dog who looked pretty abused and had not eaten. Would encourage to do your investigation before using them. I haven't and wont due to the picture of the dog.

Winter Kennel has trained or kenneled all three of my dogs. Wonderful owners and wonderful care of all of my dogs. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone for training or for kenneling. This is only one of two Kennels in the Austin area that I would trust with my dogs. It’s unfortunate that people without any dealings with this company have chosen to post reviews here. I certainly hope that Google handles these “reviews” appropriately.

We got our GPS from Cory a couple of months ago. She had previously trained him and when he turned two, his owner at the time decided he couldn’t keep him. We lucked out big time! Our GSP is well trained and extremely well mannered. He is great with kids and other dogs. We were impressed with her ranch set up. It’s a great layout for training dogs. She even put a few birds out so we could see our dog go to work. The way hunting dogs work is simply amazing. We have no hesitation taking our GPS back to Cory for a refresher training class, or any other dog for that matter, and would definitely get another dog from here.

VERY dissatisfied in the training our 11 month Vizsla, Maple, received. We went to visit her today after our 30 day waiting period and came to find out Maple had somehow escaped from her “kennel” (aka run down barn), was attacked by another …

I have had 3 hunting dogs trained at Winter Kennels and can only say positive things about Cory and Kay. My dogs (and me) have benefited greatly from the knowledgeable training received making our bird hunts safer and more fun. The dogs are able to hold point and retrieve, and have learned to avoiding rattlesnakes. Dog owners need to educate themselves and understand that Winter Kennels is not a "doggie spa" but is a place where field dogs and their owners can receive important training to enhance their experience in the field and make it safer. I wholly endorse Winter Kennels.

Cruelty to animals is the norm here for training. It is NOT positive reinforcement. It is torture! How they have not been arrested and shut down is beyond me. BIG RED FLAG: you drop off your dog for a month and you CAN NOT VISIT during that time. What are they hiding? Their cruel training practices. BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!!!

I took my goldendoodle, Lula, to get snake avoidance training at Winter Kennels. We do a lot of off leash on the trails and greenbelts around Austin, so I wanted her to be trained just in case we bumped into a rattlesnake. Snake avoidance training is much more affordable than taking her to the vet should she get bit by a poisonous snake. Kay at Winter Kennels was professional and kind. Scheduling was easy as she was very flexible. We saw her on a Sunday, and the training took about 15 minutes. She was clear on explaining the process and sweet to Lula. It worked so well! After being 'trained' that the snake was bad, Lula would not approach it when we went for it 2-3 more times. She actually ran away from it! I feel a lot more confident now taking Lula on our adventure walks knowing she knows what to smell, hear and look for when it comes to rattlesnakes. I highly recommend snake avoidance training and doing it with Winter Kennels! Oh, also, another great thing - for the life of the dog, Winter Kennels offers a once a year 'refresher' course for free! I will definitely be taking Lula back to continue to teach her this lesson to keep herself as well as anyone who walks with her safe from rattlesnakes.

Fantastic place. Great on snake training. Also great kennel for my hunting dog. I can't understand why anyone would not get their dog snake trained. Jay

My dog was being trained by a breeder in another state, but the breeder got sick and couldn’t finish training. (Dog was almost 2yrs old when trainer got sick). I didn’t know anyone else to finish the training. So I started training my dog. …
