Dog was having an emergency and I rushed to the nearest animal hospital I could find. Wasn’t able to treat her after 15 minute wait because my wife had the previous vet documentation and I didn’t know where it was. Had to leave and run to new place. Hospital didn’t seem to care that it was an emergency and I couldn’t reach my wife.

They get two stars because we love Dr. Rains. Our experience with him has been consistently positive. However… Getting an appointment or information is next to impossible here. Their phones are never answered and neither are their voicemails. They instruct you to email if you don’t hear back but you won’t get those answered either. I won’t go into details, but their lack of responsiveness resulted in an emergency vet visit that ran us about $4,000 (we love Pet Specialists of Austin for this type of thing). It was the fourth and final straw that broke the camels back and we will not returning.

Not impressed with this place. Our dog has several conditions so we've been to our share of veterinary clinics before moving to Austin recently. This place tested for way more than was communicated, the veterinarian/staff never even gave us the results from that blood work, and after getting a snippy response from the vet after asking where I can get a medication our dog needs, I'm moving on to another clinic. I've never had a place not give detailed reports of tests they've run or been anything but friendly when I've had questions. They need to do better.

Westlake Animal Hospital is the best one I have ever had the luck to send my animals to. They talk with you about treatment options, they offer inpatient care if your animal needs to be seen but they already have all of the appointments filled for the day. Dr. Rains operated on my sweet Lyla, and I was so scared she wouldn't make it out of the surgery because of past experiences. He saved her life, and is helping us understand post treatment care and possible complications to look out for. This team is kind and caring at all times. If you need to send your doggo here, it comes highly recommended. They love your babies almost as much as you do.

My little pug was adopted through APR and they work exclusively with WAH, let me say they are a great vet office to work with and have always indulged me even though I am a new fur baby owner and can sometimes overanalyze my pug's issue (laughing). Thank you to the staff and vets for their hard work at all times! My only issue was with my second to the last visit being a bit disconcerting as another patron had their pup off leash, this person was not being attentive to what their pup was doing and the pup proceeded to approach my pug who doesn't come from the best circumstances. Nothing happened as she is a smaller breed and I was able to scoop her up as the pup approached, but not a cool situation - at all. Now whether you train your pet or deem your pet non-aggressive is beyond the point as not all pups especially those who are rescued may be in a state to receive any pup they don't know. Having said that, I feel it is important for WAH to ensure that ALL pets are safe and enforce that pets be on leash or secured by their owner for everyone's safety.

The vet and vet techs at Westlake Animal Hospital were so kind! It was our first time there and I was able to feel like I could trust them immediately. The price for the services was reasonable as compared to other vets and we love how it feels like a small, local vet's office. Would definitely recommend to others.

The dr Voelzel are very friendly and Iam please how he take good care of my dog Rejoice came there my dog had a swollen eye now she is much better I’m very thankful I come back again good service

I took my dog here after a less than pleasant experience at a different local vet. The vet tech and the doctor were both extremely polite and helpful. They were able to diagnose the issue and provide suitable treatment all while remaining extremely professional and transparent. The doctor gave me a call 24 hours later to check in on my dog! They have been in business since the 70’s and it showed - they know what they’re doing. I couldn’t be more pleased with the service I received and I strongly recommend you take your animal to Westlake Animal Hospital next time you have a vet visit!

My mini Goldendoodle and Aussiedoodle get excellent care at Westlake Animal Hospital. The doctors spend a lot of time sharing information and reviewing options so I can make an informed decision.

I love the people at Westlake Animal Hospital. Sadly, if they go back to forcing me to leave my pet at the door because of Covid fear instead of going in with her, I will have to find another place. W.A.H. -- Please don't let this happen!! I don't mind the masks/vaccs/ other protection, but I will not abandon my pup at the door and not have a part in her medical attention.

Caryn is so nice and wonderful, she was able to fit us in for an emergency drop off visit. I have been taking my pets to Westlake Animal Hospital since the 70s or 80s (I was a kid at that point :). They are wonderful. I’ve only had one vet I did not like and she is no longer there. Dr. Johnson helped us during this visit. She was super nice and helpful. She is very knowledgeable. She addressed all of our questions and truly seemed to care and has a great sense of humor. We hope Dr. Johnson stays there a while so she can be our permanent vet.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Rains and the staff at Westlake. After having horrible experiences with other vets that just simply don’t care, it’s been so refreshing having a vet that is so attentive and follows up when you actually call, is happy to answer any and all your questions with thorough explanation and not rush through the appointment, and more than anything, looks for a second opinion when dealing with something he’s not too familiar with. We’ve also had our pups stay at Westlake throughout the day due to an emergency or being sick and they were always the nicest and most patient people when we called to check in on them which was so so helpful during COVID when you couldn’t even walk your dog in. We really can’t thank Dr. Rains enough for taking such good care of our pups. If you have a brachycephalic dog don’t waste your time or money with other Austin vets, they’re the way to go and will actually understand what it means to care for a brachycephalic dog.

Dr. Thompson is knowledgeable and kind with my kitty. The office is clean and those who work there are really nice and gentle with the animals!

Great vets. Signe knows EVERYTHING about pugs- it’s why they Austin Pug Rescue uses them! Great team. Really thorough and you can tell they care about the pets while not being judged about the owners (I was a few months behind on annual checkup bc I had enough heartworm meds bc my other pug passed away. I hadn’t had a chance to get my other pug in but he was current on meds. I was afraid I’d get a lecture but they totally got it and were great).

Westlake Animal Hospital did an amazing job on my pug’s laryngeal sacculectomy, neuter, stenotic nares operation, and elongated soft palate resection. He can breathe so much better now! I was extremely anxious about the surgery and the techs and vets provided me with updates via phone and text and the surgeon even talked to me for about 30 minutes after the surgery just to ease my anxiety and go over recovery instructions. They were extremely professional yet friendly and kind. I definitely recommend them!

After moving to Austin, I was turned down by several veterinary offices for my 15 year old dog (not taking new patients). Luckily I was recommended Westlake Animal Hospital. They give great personalized service and treated my dog like my old vet did in Tampa. They also went out of their way to help me find a dog groomer that took new clients. Their costs are very reasonable as well. A plus all around

My Great Pyrenees is a handful, and I'm so happy they took care of him. He's so much happier now that he went to the vet. He had to be sedated and the team handled this situation like champs. We will be back!

We are new to the area and luckily chose Westlake Animal Hospital as our new Veterinarian for our 4 year old Golden. We have now seen them 3 or 4 times and have received great care every time. My dog is happy to go there and they treat him like an old friend.

I took both of my cats to Westlake Animal Hospital because they needed their Health Certificates for traveling to Spain. My regular vet wasn't as seasoned at this process and I had zero room for errors due to the tight timeline of travel. This team was amazing! They anticipated any problems and took quick actions responding to the USDA's queries when needed. They also worked well with my regular vet office to get the needed health records. They were compassionate and took their time to help explain processes. They were great and I would highly recommend them for this process.

We were referred here from our vet in Kerrville for an orthopedic surgery on our dog June when she got ran over. Not only did they get us in next day, they also stayed until 8:30 in the evening to complete the surgery. I didn’t get to meet the vet or the staff as my husband took June for her surgery, but what I heard from him is that they were great. This was less than a week ago and June is already recovering so well. We’re so grateful to them. Well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. Thank you!!

Westlake Animal Hospital has been taking care of our pet for 8 years and we absoutely love the doctors and staff there. They are always kind, responsive, and truly have a love for animals there!

I love all the doctors here. They are always so helpful and answer all my questions. They have stayed late and gone beyond for all five of my dogs time and time again. I’ve been taking them there since 2012. Prices are fair and they always explain all the options in advance.

Signe was very informative and was hustling throughout our whole experience. Dr Asbury was very thorough in checking my dog. She boke things down to us so we could understand them. They were profesional, fast, and friendly. What more can you ask for.

I have used Westlake Animal Hospital for thirty years, three dogs. I have never been disappointed Just this week we had our new dog spayed. Our pup wouldn’t wear an E collar so WLAH came up with a full body suit alternative that works like a charm. They were once again kind and supportive.

Excellent care for our dog. I have no hesitation about keeping them as our vet for a long time.
