Very personable. Due to COVID I was not able to go to the exam with my dog, but the Vet came out and talked with me in the parking lot about everything and answered all my questions.

Appreciated attention to detail to provide as healthy an office environment as possible by limiting access- staff are VERY caring & knowledgable

Huge disappointment. I had two scheduling mishaps with this vet. Most recently, I showed up for my scheduled appointment and was met with a blank stare and the response of "you're not on the schedule" that's it. No explanation, no offer to see what went wrong, or schedule another appointment. Literally nothing. All vets in Salem are completely full right now. No one is taking new clients. Neighborhood Animal Hospital doesn't have to care (especially about a newish client like myself) - so they don't. It's that simple.

The care and recovery for our Yorkie was good on his teeth cleaning. However, the other side of the $coin was poorly managed and communicated. We were given a cost estimate, over the phone, and when I was sent to pick up my Dog the cost was double! They did not have records of quote and my Dog was basically at the mercy of my ability to pay and absorb the cost. It sounds like this is their routine, from other reviews, so I only say "Buyer Beware".

Please read edit below. My first visit Every person who I interacted with was kind and compassionate, and worried about Klowie, it seemed as much as we were. Dr Cathy took time to go over all the xrays with me, and was as concerned as I was to keep her pain and discomfort as low as possible. EDITED ON 4/10/2021 after such good care for over a year , caring for our three older dogs, whom all take meds my chihuahua ran down to only a day or two worth of his Carprofen which he uses twice a day. I had to take Mia down to Corvallis for an emergency visit for her heart, on that Friday (which turned out she has an enlarged heart). Anyway I had sent my refill request to chewy a week before. That week was crazy with Mia's symptoms of a weird cough, which was making it hard for her to catch a breath that by Sunday was so distressing since I had already had Mia at different vets for some testing they couldn't do at the neighborhood animal vets twice that week.( They do not have a digital x-ray machine and that was what type of series that was needed. I didn't check the email from chewy till Thursday that chrwy sent saying the vet said no. I called the vet and was told they needed to see him before refilling his rx. I explained that I had to take Mia to Corvallis the next morning to the cardiologist, and asked if the would give Bently enough till Monday when I could bring him in for his recheck and was told no..not till he came in. So I explained I was only asking for two pills that would have kept him comfortable till Monday. They again said no. So I Said that doesn't work for me and that I would find another vet. Which I did. Animals feel pain and discomfort just as humans do and to me their actions spoke volumes to me that they had no concern about him at all. So please consider that in a emergency situation they don't care enough to do right by their patients. I worked in a human Drs office and I know that they need an appointment each year for a meds check. However a couple of days shouldn't win over a dog's distress. It was the exact opposite of how they treated Klowie. Also when they received the request from Chewy no one called and said you need to get him in asap or we won't be able to fill. Which they did do, when it was klowies time for refills. So I felt like my dog was left hanging in the wind , While I had to deal with Mia's urgent need first. .

When we called to get information about pricing we experience, evasive, vague and non informative customer service We appreciate you servicing our neighborhood but we will have to find another pet clinic outside of our area that we can maintain effective communication that trust is built on.

Dr. Helwig knew Right away what needed to be done with my dog.If it wasn't for her I'm not sure if I would still have him here today. I've been to 4 vets in the last year. This clinic pretty much saved my dog. Thank you Dr. Helwig. Tina L and Riggi. We will be back.

What a great job they did, first, to keep us all safe with curbside pickup and delivery. The vet came out to my parked car to discuss her findings and recommendations. She had a comprehensive plan for treatment and follow up! I was very impressed.

Coming with your furred babies expect great staff, excellent service and satisfaction. The doc I bring my little girl to is Dr. Helwig. She is all above but most importantly compassionate and patient with a high-strung fur-lovin' mama like me. Thank you Dr. Helwig.

The Neighborhood Vet Clinic was so helpful when we had to put our cat down. She was 16 years old and the clinic was so patient and caring during the entire process. They didn't push for unnecessary treatments and I never once felt pressured to make any decision I was comfortable with. After everything was said and done, they even sent me flowers and a card. They are very nice people and I would recommend them to anyone!

I took 2 kittens into get fixed. The prices are outrageous. And after using a certificate from friends of feline they snuck in a ton of charges. The dr went over some things afterwards and she was like they might have ...... they might have..... but I’m not sure. She scared me with out any facts. Vets should know not to do that to pet owners. I will never return.

I have a cat who has had previous traumatic experiences with vets. I have searched for a place to take her that would meet her vet needs and I have to say, I definitely found the right spot. After an internet search and phone conversation with Tonya, a "meet and greet" visit with Cleo remaining in her carrier then a "real" visit for vaccines a week ago I cannot say enough good things about this clinic or the people who work there. The visit to a vet prior to this one required leather gloves and a horrible traumatization of my cat for her to receive the care she needed. This time, Dr. Kathy and her wonderful assistant, Tonya were absolutely the most kind, caring people in the world. Given the last experience it was so heartening to see Cleo let Dr. Kathy pet her while she spoke ever so softly to her and then, with Tonya lightly covering her head and torso with a towel (NOT restraining her) it was amazing how talking softly and petting Cleo with one hand, Dr. Kathy was able to administer three vaccines without incident. I noticed that she petted Cleo near where each vaccine was given and that technique apparently kept Cleo from noticing the needle poke. She didn't even flinch. Although she was not completely quiet during the process at no time did she try to get out from under the towel, strike out, hiss or growl. Just those little guttural "I'm kinda stressed" meows. After she was done, Dr. Kathy and Tonya lifted the towel and Cleo went right into her carrier, which Tonya had carefully and quietly placed on the table. She did NOT seem stressed and was quiet and peaceful, both in the car and once we got home. I am so grateful to have found this wonderful clinic staffed by such wonderful, caring people. If you need a vet near Salem, even if you're out of town, which I am, the trip is definitely worth it. You won't find a more caring group in a clinic that doesn't overbook so the wait is short and your animal will receive the utmost care by people who really understand the animal kingdom. ????????????

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Helwig and her staff. They aren't just our vet. They are friends after all these years. They truly care about our animals and us.

We had our fist visit the other day. The circumstances were sad, it was time to say goodbye to our corgi. The staff were very friendly and compassionate. We'd definitely go back.
